The Brothers McMullen Reviews
The characters did not engage me at all.
I've always liked this movie! Great indie from that era!!!!
I had the opportunity to interview one of the actors in this film, Michael McGlone, and the anecdotes he told on this film are incredible. The film is to be enjoyed with the family and have a good time with food and beer with your friends, I love this story and the performance of the pretty boy McGlone, is incredible, good job to the director Edward Burns for this genius.
One of my all time favorite movies. I guess being Irish Catholic who grew up in the NYC area, I can relate to this movie allot.
This is barely a single star. If I could rate it lower I would. Really bad acting and terrible story. One actress that played Audrey was so awful we laughed. And how many references did they need to remind us that they were Irish.
Ummm....THAT is a no. WHO watches crap like this and says it is a GOOD movie?? NOT this girl. So boring, pretentious and self-absorbed. I think I made it through 10 minutes of this movie, but I almost fell asleep, so I am not 100% sure. Shut it off, picked up a book and moved on. Meh.
As brilliant as Burns' debut film is, it is still only his second best. Independent small drama comedy, shot like a documentary.
Catholic guilt laid on so thick it puts Jewish guilt to shame. An amazing feat of film-making to make this on a nothing budget, but it is ultimately nothing all that special.
Nice philosophical move about, love, lust, recovering Catholics and relationships. Keep watching. The first 15 minutes are hard to get through. Keep watching. It will be worth your time!
Burns at his best. A good look at family.
This look at the relationship between three brothers struggling with their identity might've been made on a low budget, but it certainly delivers the goods. The performances are solid here, particularly from writer/director Edward Burns and Mike McGlone, portraying relatable characters. A screenplay grounded in reality keep the proceedings accessible.
To this day, The Brothers McMullen is still Edward Burn's best movie. Best writing, incredibly real and something most every guy can relate to. That is if you didn't make a life commitment before 23 years old.
I think this film was overrated and I am shocked that it won the Sundance festival. Perhaps, it is more of a guys film but my husband didn't like it either. It had potential. I suppose as a first feature that has been written, directed, produced, funded and acted by a 27 year old, it is not bad. The banana scene is memorable but not much else.
The Brothers McMullen is dialogue driven script to excite the audience for the complete duration of the picture. If you're looking for cheap laughs and T&A, you might want to look elsewhere. But if you're looking for a heart warming indie classic, I'd definitely suggest "The Brothers McMullen".
