Buried Reviews
'Buried' mostly delivers, the ending is what makes me definitively say that I had a positive time. The film does build tension nicely, it feels claustrophobic without a doubt. It is also paced competently, impressively so given its one location setting (credit to Ryan Reynolds). The only criticism I hold is that the film makes the lead character kinda unlikeable early on, which really shouldn't be the case given it ought to be a tap-in to make you care for Paul Conroy given the plot's nature. To me, in moments, he came across more dick-y than panicked. That kinda led me down the garden path in terms of predicting how it was going to all end, one on my (half-baked) theories was that it was going to head in a 'Butterfly on a Wheel'-esque (great movie, fwiw) direction. It didn't, of course, but the unpredictability was satisfying. I'm perhaps being harsh or was overanalysing with the unlikability factor. Either way, it doesn't really matter all that much because I still think of this in a good way post-watch. Well worth seeing.
Good Ryan Reynolds performances and it's thrilling enough.
Otherwise really good but I didn't like the ending.
The suspense builds in this film that revolves around the common fears of claustrophobia and being buried alive. Given one of Ryan Reynolds’ most dramatic performances, Buried easily keeps you on the edge of your seat. For cinephiles, it’s an appealing movie experience, but not for all general audiences. Grading: C+
It was a great acting feat for Ryan Reynolds, but as a movie you’d enjoy, it failed to measure up and his competent acting skills were very much wasted. It never coalesced into any kind of meaningful story or plot. Was hoping there would be some enlightened lessons learned from his predicament that would highlight good guys or bad guys, but in this case, there was no magic behind the curtain - just some placement ads for a cell phone, a lighter and an overpriced watch.
Waste of time. Do not watch it.
This was the worst movie I’ve ever watched. I sincerely wish I could get the 1 hour and 34 minutes back in my life. This ruined my evening. Definitely definitely definitely a DO NOT watch.
Buried is a heart pounding claustrophobic hell ride That showcases the great acting of Ryan Reynolds when he is put in a drama. This film is as close as you’re gonna get to feel like you’re actually buried in a coffin unless you’re actually buried in a coffin. The great direction of Rodrigo Cortes Showing A full length feature film, and only seeing one specific are The whole entire film really does show the directing chops of Rodrigo Cortes. The drama can get so intense that by the end of the film, it will leave you shocked and will stay in your mind for at least a day or two.
Didn’t connect with the main character. Just watch a mrs beast video and call it a day.
This film was definitely the most thrilling and dramatic (a good dramatic) I’ve seen in a very long time! Reynolds really put his heart and soul into this film, along with keeping the humor that made him famous with him too. It can be a bit boring sometimes and there’s no action to love, but in a movie like this, you don’t need action to be a good film.
Buried is a very intense and impressive film. They could've easily had the film take place inside and outside of the coffin, but instead they make the genius decision to have the film take place entirely underground in a coffin, there's no one on screen other than Ryan Reynolds, and it keeps you invested from beginning to end. This movie could've gotten really old really fast, but instead it keeps you on the edge of your seat the entire time, and it makes you really care about this man. The film is paced surprisingly well, considering the premise, and I was never bored. Ryan Reynolds shows that he can do more than just be charming and sarcastic, with possibly his career-best performance that proves that he is a fantastic actor. This film also has some really emotional moments between his mom and wife that actually got me kind of teary-eyed. The big glaring issue for me is the ending. I hate when films do these depressing downer endings. I thought this was very well made film, it just wasn't quite as great as it could've been.
Really placed Ryan Reynolds acting talent to the max
One of the most breath taking movies i've ever seen even tho we can only see a man and a coffin for more than half of the movie, a simply made movie with alot of meaning behind it, since it starts until it ends it offers a huge amount of emotions that you might not be able to control. 10/10
As simple as the synopsis sounds (a guy's in a box, buried alive with a telephone), yet this film is pure genius. Right from the start, we're there, in the box with Paul, in the most claustrophobic atmosphere ever. Without knowing who he is, we identify with him and feel the panic gradually rising up. After 20 minutes, we legitimately wonder whether the intensity can be maintained until the film's 90-minute running time... Well, yes! We're with him in this mess from start to finish, experiencing the highs and lows intensely, and never ceasing to wonder "what would I do in his place? Also noteworthy is Ryan Reynolds' breathtaking performance, his best I've ever seen. A must-see masterpiece.
Gives claustrophobia a whole new meaning! We watch in agonized anticipation for either a rescue or a tragic demise. As the air gets thinner and pressure keeps mounting, we feel as though we are the ones who are buried inside of that coffin!
Over a decade later and Ryan Reynolds gives such a powerhouse performance He plays soldier Paul Conroy who unfortunately falls convoy of insurgents Some time later he awakens in a wooden coffin buried underneath several feet of dirt He has a limited amount of time and air left and his only working cell phone is running out of battery power Paul will have to try his hardest to call help and deal with the ones keeping him prisoner It’s quite remarkable the whole thing taking place inside a box deep underground by director Roberto Cortes It's a nice breakaway from the romantic comedy angle he's known for I was upset it didn't play at theaters and had to wait to rent it on dvd The ending was was still upsetting I'll admit then again it subverts expectations This proves a director can get a lot of mileage out of something so minuscule
Zippo, cellphone and notes inside the coffin.
Genuinely a 5 Star Rating. Reynolds delivers a chilling (virtually) one-man show in terrifying conditions. This is one of the BEST films that I will only ever watch once. I mean ... I've seen Terminator 2 about 30 times, it's great, I love it, yes I cry at "that" bit but ... I love to watch it. But this? This was a one-time thing - yet STILL a perfect 10/10 ... 5 stars ... 100% ... turned up to 11 ... whatever way you want to rate it ... it's chillingly perfect.
Ryan Reynolds gives the claustrophobic performance of a lifetime, allegedly at the cost of some of his own mental health, but the final product is both a well-shot tight-space thriller, as well as a strongly written observance of the value of a ransomed person.
The whole film is inside a coffin underground and nothing happens at all. I love Ryan Reynolds but that was the worst film I've watched
