Burlesque Reviews
Awful.

It's impossible to know if [Christina Aguilera's] actually acting, since the music-video cutting rhythms don't give her time to sustain so much as a compound sentence, not that the script provides any.

As Burlesque ground along its obvious and well-worn path, my inner voice indeed shouted, "Take it off," though my request was directed toward the projection booth rather than the dancers onstage.

And it's this tension that rescues Burlesque - a film cursed with being too competent to be a Showgirls-style guilty pleasure, and too ropey to be really recommendable.
| Original Score: 3/5 | Mar 28, 2019
Burlesque is so bad that it's good: over-the-top, ridiculous fun.

The only relevant choreography would have shown Bob Fosse spinning out of his grave.

It's more hallucination than story, but hey, If you think of it as a slightly deranged long music video divathon it can be a lot of fun.

[Burlesque] is hold-your-nose bad.

Burlesque aims for classy and hits somewhere around inoffensive.

What starts out as an enjoyable piece of fluff turns tiresome, and that's a shame.

The tone is earnest, verging on sentimental. Or maybe it's just the effect of Antin's leaden dialogue, for it inspires some execrable acting. As a movie star, Aguilera is yet to shine.
| Original Score: 2.5/5 | Jan 14, 2011
The images are murky and off-putting, the wisecracks fall flat, and the musical numbers aren't stylish or excessive enough to be memorable.
| Original Score: 1/5 | Jan 13, 2011
Yes, Burlesque is bad, but it's the good kind of bad, with plenty of unintentional laughs and a powerfully dreadful lead performance by Cher.
| Original Score: 3/5 | Jan 12, 2011
Even the dances feel cozily dated, as choreographers Denise Faye and Joey Pizzi borrow liberally from Bob Fosse.

Burlesque manages what seemed impossible: It is filled with half-naked dancing girls, yet it's still boring.
| Original Score: 0.5/4 | Jan 3, 2011
Not enough films hit the sweet spot that Burlesque does between ridiculous, flagrantly decrepit and yet game enough in spangly execution to sweep you along.
| Original Score: 3/5 | Dec 16, 2010
Everything works out very well - except for the audience, which is lumbered with all the embarrassment the film refuses to feel.
| Original Score: 3/5 | Dec 15, 2010
Try to make 'Showgirls' for 12 year olds and you please no one. What a tease.
| Original Score: 2/5 | Dec 15, 2010
Intentionally or not, it might be the comedy of the year.

Camper than Lady Gaga riding a unicorn down Brighton seafront.
