The Butterfly Effect Reviews
I think the viewer's perception of this movie changes with age and that it should be definitely viewed when you're over 35 and you've gained some life experience that will allow you to be emotionally engaged in this story. I'm pretty sure many of the critics didn't quite get it right at first watch. Been there, done that myself when it came out. Now, 20+ years later, I'm pretty baffled by how good this movie actually is! And be aware, the Director's Cut ending is totally different from the theatrical and you should definitely watch both and choose the one that fits your emotional needs :)
good
Movie is absolutely amazing, don’t truste these “reviewers”
I watched this when it first came out and loved it, because of the premise of how small decisions can completely affect so much in future timelines. I just watched it again many years later. I still enjoyed it just as much as the first time. Has good an intriguing storyline and keeps my interest.
The idea and story of the movie are good, but the film itself is not.
Don't listen to the critics on this one it's a good memorable movie and I can be critical with movies.
An intriguing idea at the heart of it, but it's unfortunately wrapped in the horrible message that other people's lives would be perfect if only you never were born. This movie is the opposite of It's a Wonderful Life. I saw this in the theater when it first came out, but had forgotten about it. Just watched it tonight and kind of wish I hadn't.
i think this movie was pretty interesting and it honestly had me hooked for most of the movie. It has beautiful cinematography and the characters played their role so well I was emotionally invested and I actually think this movie was pretty good. I’d think it really does live up to the title of psychological horror because when you’re watching this movie, you kinda lose track of what’s happening, but you’re so into it that it is good. yeah definitely would recommend.
Don’t listen to the Rotten Tomatoes on here, as usual they only like old repetitive superhero movies. This movie was awesome twenty years ago and still is today! Highly recommend for a low key thriller (not intense), and someone mystery while still relaying a message.
I am pleased to see real pushback against the negative critics ratings. I thought this move was excellent. One of the most interesting uses of time travel, and how it would work, that I have seen. The lure of altering the past is strong for all of us. This movie paints a compelling picture of how complicated this would be.
This movie is a lot deeper than what top critics make it seem. Even tho it has to do with science fiction. Theres alot of real life resemblance. He wants to change his past as a kid. But he actually had the chance and always seems to still fail. So even tho we could change something in our past doesn’t mean we wouldn’t make another mistake. Love everything about this movie.
This is a film for the modern age. For my generation at least, this film resonates. It's sharp, poignant, and - for science fiction - incredibly realistic.
Critics missed the mark on The Butterfly Effect. While it has its flaws, the film’s ambitious storytelling and emotional depth make it nothing short of a masterpiece in my eyes.
DAMN that was a fucked up ending!
Besides what top critics say I really like the movie. A man who wants everything and realizes he can't have it. Crazy thriller worth a watch
The top ?? critics are full of BS. GREAT MOVIE
Worth a watch i am sure it's not for everyone but if you like the early 2000 movies this one is a good watch. Unless your one of those "Top critics" imagine hating everything in life. What a sad existence 🤣🤣
A great concept that is well executed with a fantastic cast. Granted, there is a plot hole here or there, but that doesn’t detract from an otherwise fantastic movie!
