It's ok. It reminds me of a more boring and less refined version of a film like Two for the Road in terms of the ideas. (Maybe not the Peeping Tom part lol). Pretty much everything about this is so middle of the road. Jolie's direction isn't terrible though hoenstly. Some good framing, and the setting is memorable. Biggest problems here is the first 30 minutes are so boring. It's them just moping around feeling sorry, being rich and miserable with no real narrative. Than once they start spying on the couple it does actually find a narrative to build around but it just gets so repetitive seeing them spy on the couple screwing. Once you've seen it once it makes the other 7-8 times just boring. This also just goes in circles, struggles with a consistent pacing, and isn't sure how to make the ideas it explores of infertility, dealing with quasi grief, anger, and loss of love into something cohesive. It's not incoherent to it's credit but just not cohesive at all. The music als is very boring, generic, and forgettable too. This probably could've cut 40 minutes at least frm the runtime and not lost much. It's not a terrible film but just very boring, meandering, and inconsistent. Skip This. Plenty of other better films that explore these ideas better.

If Angelina and Brad weren't acting, someone would say it's a mediocre to bad movie. They're promoting it as much as they can, but not enough to make it a good movie. A bit boring, nice shots.

absolutely loved watching it a second time, however it was hard to watch at first cuz I couldn’t figure out what was going on from the lack of dialogue and it was quite slow

Not a good movie. Made it to the end though (which I won't do if movie is HORRIBLE). It was very slow, but That I don't mind, when I'm engaged with the characters. I liked Husband much more than Wife. And though I'm an Angelina fan, this might have been her worst role. And I can't help feeling like Pitt did this film FOR her. Like maybe he knew it was bad. But maybe not. It's too bad they split in real life soon after this movie was released. It's nice the movie ending was hopeful, but I don't think realistic. The scenery & their hotel- Gorgeous. The story just not good.

Yes the movie is a self-indulgent vanity project, but it's worst crime is being unbearably boring. If you're looking for a campy train wreck, you'll be sorely disappointed. Jolie seems to be trying to stylistically imitate a lavish, sad European art film but ends up with something a little closer to a Louis Vuitton commercial.

Aquele casal que a gente amava admirar no auge de sua perfeição, um drama lenta, mas muito bem dirigido e atuado pela eterna musa, Jolie... Um casal complexo, tomando decisões estranhas e arriscadas, entretanto senti total empatia e compreensão, tudo muito apropriado, fotografia ensolarada, figurino em tons pastéis, nudez sensual, belo e romântico e dramático… Seria um prenúncio ou um preságio de Jolie?!?!?!

Innegabile è l'eleganza con cui viene raccontata la trama, in ogni suo dettaglio, sguardo e paesaggio. Altrettanto innegabile è che ad accompagnare per tutto il film questa eleganza, ci sia un costante stato di pesantezza, di noia che che si lega alle figure dei due protagoniste e delle loro routine giornaliere. I problemi esistenziali della Jolie, quelli di alcolismo di Pitt che pure sono ottimi in ogni scena insieme, ammorbano e rallentano oltremodo ogni scena ed ogni dialogo; accentrando qualsiasi scena del film. Manca anche uno sviluppo dei personaggi, che restano tali e quali praticamente fino alla scena finale in cui si scuotono gli animi per cercare un effetto a sorpresa che però è talmente desiderato dallo spettatore per risvegliarsi che viene recepito quasi come scontato.

Minha opinião: Parece que casais de Hollywood gostam de fazer filmes com eles. Tom e Nicole é um exemplo. Aqui um filme de Angelina e Brad. Um filme depre, conta a estoria de um escritor Brad que vai ate o litoral da França para se inspirar com sua esposa uma ex-bailarina Angelina e que tem problemas de depressão. Um casal que também esta passando por um período difícil, depois da perda do feto pela 2ª vez. Brad sai todos os dias e faz amizade com os locais conversando da sua vida. Enquanto isso Angelina fica mais no quarto. Até o dia que um casal novo se hospeda ao lado de seu quarto. E que Angelina descobre um buraco e passa a espionar o casal. E ver eles fazerem sexo. Brad descobre e o casal se envolve nesse clima erótico. Mas no final Angelina quase acaba com o relacionamento do casal, onde a moça estava gravida. Mas Brad chega a momento de apaziguar. E assim termina. Muito frustrante ver 2 estrelas de Hollywood fazer um filme deste, depressivo, chato e nada haver com o filme Sr. e sra. Smith. As partes eróticas também fracas, tudo é fraco nesse filme. Não sei se eles aqui representaram a própria vida de casal que levavam, pois hoje estão separados. Roteiro: fraco Vale apena assistir? What a terrible disservice to a fine actor and the entire movie industry of professionals who don't get their movies made so this vapid woman can get her ego stroked by paid staff. Just an awful movie, beyond cringe. Do yourself a favor and go watch Burn After Reading, and experience how a brilliantly entertaining and smart movie can impart important messages without torturing its audience into a coma..

The reviews for this movie really don't match my opinion! I am halfway into the movie and felt the need to pause and write what I'm thinking. I read the reviews on rotten tomatoes + common sense media before watching and I was expecting a slow, boring film. The only reason I pursued it was because of Pitt and Jolie. I'm quite glad I did! I do not agree with the "slow moving" aspect I've seen many comment on. I think it's the perfect time line. Adjustment isn't a quick thing. It takes time. Every shot so far has been aesthetically pleasing and beautiful. I am in love with the set, as well. Per usual, Pitt and Jolie's acting is phenomenal. Both so committed to their roles. So far, I love the development of Vanessa and although I'm not too sure what is going on in her head, I understand where her motives are coming from. I'm actually excited to finish this movie and haven't been bored once this entire movie!

Uncontrollably slow and lacking the thought the beautifully shot movie unfortunately doesn't hold up to its loud cast.

This movie was so slow. I kept waiting for the pace to pick up but it never happened. Save your time and skip it.

The idea for the story was interesting and acting from Brad Pitt was impressive despite the awkward script. Jolie's character never hit a convincing depth, which unfortunately broke the movie. To top, the backing music felt cheesy and desperately overcompensating for how flat the movie was.. Overall, a strange Hollywood imitation of art house.

I think the movie was a perfect amalgamation of what it is truly like to be at Vanessa and Roland's positions. The tempo of the movie was a bit slow for me, but the essence of its tempo was, in my opinion, an important part of the story itself. Although it was quite dragging, having the root of their problems towards the end, it certainly sends a message to viewers such as myself. A message that was definitely worth the slow-moving tempo of the movie. And it was easy to understand and to figure out its relevance in today's society: when you love someone, you will always find a way to make things right, to save what you can save, and be a better person and build a stronger relationship at the end of the day. Angie and Brad's chemistry was, as always, palpable. Angelina Jolie did a great job as a writer as well as the film's director. I highly recommend this movie.

Brad should have left the no talent Angelina a long time a go.He was actually normal acting, but she just stunk. Having to wait until the end to find out what was wrong was just stupid. After watching a depressed couple do literally nothing with their lives almost until the end of this movie, we find out that the wife's misery is due to her being barren. This becomes her great excuse for trying to sleep with another man to destroy his pregnant young wife's happy marriage. She behaves like an abomination, but her husband still loves her and forgives her because?... Because she's so beautiful? Or because he sees himself in her? What horrifies me most is the way so many reviewers here have described how they've also seen themselves in her. Definitely an eye opener about the kind of people out there,,, May God and Jesus love them but hope they stay away from my life! And we never find out why Angelina was never letting her husband touch her. If it was to make him as miserable as herself, she was definitely succeeding, she seemed to have made an unsuccessful alcoholic out of him. We're told that he was once a good writer, so sad. Again an eye opener about the way the combination of being very miserable and heartless can suck the energy out of others who permit it. I'm sure Angelina has written her very own story here in the hopes of forgiveness and sympathy from the world, which she's getting.

A sensitive story told in an interesting way. Considering all the poor reviews, I was nicely surprised. If u need something to blow up every 5 minutes u won't like it. But if a sensual love story is to your liking, this should make for a good movie. I usually hate romantic plots, so that tells u something, eh?
