Carlito's Way Reviews
Although Carlito's Way threads a little too much into a generic and formulaic mafia movie territory, in the way that it feels like De Palma is just trying to reharse Scarface's success, it nevertheless manages to pull itself from the dephts of a lake and not sleep with the fishes also thanks to De Palma's stunning camerawork that successfully creates flawless thrilling and suspenseful scenes that would make Hitchcock proud and bawl his eyes out from happiness, with special credit going to its twist-full ending that shatters expectations; and also not to mention Sean Penn's amazing performance as Carlito's fishy lawyer with double intentions.
Great movie , Soecially for al pachino fans 👍
The best al pacino movie.
One of the best Al Pacino movies. His performance is like a magic. Sean Penn and other supporting actors all are great in this film. I like both of Scarface and Carlito's Way and I love both Al Pacino and Brain De Palma, they are legendary actor and filmmaker.
Brain De Palma's "Carlito's Way" is the third Mafia movie he's directed, and the second starring Al Pacino. After watching those films, including this one, I realized how much of a natural De Palma is when directing these kinds of movies. "Carlito's Way" in particular is very dark. It has no signs of hope, except in probably in a few scenes, and it's all bad luck for Carlito. You can tell he wanted to change in this movie, but all his past actions, even the ones that we witnessed in the film came back to bite him.
De Palma and Pacino reunite for another gangster epic, although Penn steals the spotlight from the titular character this time. His physical transformation made him unrecognizable, and his mind-blowing performance should've earned him an Academy Award. Carlito's Way is suspenseful, and although somewhat hard to follow, the film offers sharp humor, a compelling plotline, and complex characters. The cinematography is another admirable quality as it perfectly illustrates Brian De Palma's extraordinary visual style.
It's one of Sean Penn's best performances and one of many similar performances by Al Pacino. They mesh to give Brian De Palma an excellent character study of a bad guy trying to better himself and another bad guy trying to continue his dirge of dragging people down.
Wonderful! Amazing performance by Pacino. If you liked Scarface you must watch this.
Brilliant. DePalma at the top of his game.
Great acting, plot and music in this classic crime movie. Fast paced and exciting but hits you in your feels too.
It’s my personal favorite De Palma. A film Hitchcock would definitely love!
An absolutely amazing movie with great sets, plot, character development & acting, and everything. Gets a rare 5 stars from me. I didn't like the ending, but I don't think it's enough to knock it down to 4.5 stars. It was a very enjoyable film from beginning to end, which hooked me like few movies do. I think the opening gives away the ending or at least tells you how it'll end -- but perfect doesn't exist. This is as close as it gets :)
So enjoyed this movie, Al Pacino is the best , and Sean Penn I didn't recognise with the curly hair, but I recognised his eyes . So penetrating. These actors are so gifted in delivering a plausible story. It will be a very sad day when people like AL Pacino leave this planet. I have never seen a dud performance, from him. Life is pretty tough in New York in the 70's , to stay clean is the theme , jealousy, greed, lust, and lack of trust , are a toxic ingredience. Thank you, Mr Pacino you are the best. A typical gangster flick. Well-made and slick. Dreams are good, but life gets in the way…
One of the best gangsta crime drama thriller of the 90's Brain De Palma did really phenomenal directing along with really strong cast by not other than award winner Al Pacino and the cinematography looks fantastic and great editing and really amazing songs and terrific score on film.
One of my favorite movies. It is easily a must watch for everyone.
This and Donnie Brasco are my favorite Al Pacino films. You won't be disappointed watching this.
An underrated masterpiece!!! 9/10
