House of My Father Reviews
If you don't take this movie seriously it can be enjoyed. Watching stoned would probably make it better 🤣
I'm a fan of W. Ferrell and I can appreciate him speaking Spanish. On the other hand this movie was a giant pile of 💩
Curiosity led to its unique merit of production performative authenticity when putting a comedic spin on telenovelas dramatized with a nice cast being the best charming quality while letdown by twofold frivolous focus and mostly targeted to the invited frequent viewers of the televised genre. (B-)
More like an extended comedy short film. Just way more extended to be a feature film. Not a full-bodied comedy. Sadly.
OK, I teach Spanish, so I may be biased from a language teacher's perspective, but I think this movie is really funny. I could watch it over and over. Five stars!
The people who dont like the movie are people who canï¿ 1/2(TM)t relate to it on a cultural level and therefore cannot assess it appropriately.
When is Will Ferrell going to get credit for being the genius he is? While Casa de mi Padre is certainly no Gone with the Wind or even Anchorman, it is a brilliant experiment that was much funnier than I had been led to believe. Will's lily white ass amongst his supposed Hispanic family, fake white tigers, intentionally poor edits, telenovela drama, all done in Spanish...comic genius. As Roger Ebert once said, if you didn't get this movie, it says more about you than the film itself.
Cheezy unrealistics pieces such as the background painted set, the white cat, the double take for Armando to go back to his dying father. The camera crew in focus through the bad American cop's reflective glasses. The mannequins. The tiger scene after Armando was shot. The colorful nonsensical montage that was Armando's vision. All part of the satire humor of this movie. The overt sterotypical Spanish style drama, that is set up then easily crashed such as when Raul turned off the radio when Armando walked in after shot. The bullet casings dropped when Raul and the army bolster up for the fight. Camera pans into the faces provide the drama giving the focus to the dead pan stares of the opponents. Parental guide: Many unrealistic but still gory and violent scenes. Sensual swimming into sex scene. Some cussing throughout.
A strange artistic choice for Will Ferrell, even as a parody of old timey Mexican soap operas. While not very funny, it's oddly captivating in it's own casual way.
....WARNING YOU HAVE GOT TO WATCH THE END OF THE CREDITS THROUGHOUT THIS MOVIE AS SOMETHING HAPPENES AT THE END OF THE CREDITS THROUGHOUT THIS MOVIE........
CULT CLASSIC!! If you don't like it you don't get classic Norteño Mexican movies/novelas so move along kind sirs/ma'ams!! Forever a fan.
the 5 minutes of opening credits is bad then u are met with sub titles. A cool cast so u try to fight through it only to find disappointment . Where is the honor in being jealous of your brother will ferrell? Wills brother is beloved by his father and what does will do. Voices his haterd for his bro that is drug dealer and trys to steal his hot wife. This is the guy you have to root for.
Might have worked as a trailer. Or maybe a short, but that would be pushing it. It's not funny enough to watch the whole thing, and it's annoying, long, and boring. The fact that this is from Will Ferrell is so sad. But, I understand what he was trying to do. I can't say anyone specifically will like it. I think it's selective. But that definitely doesn't mean watch it. If you watch it and like it, good for you. And if you don't, then I'm sorry.
Not the funniest will ferrell film and was lacking in jokes, however this was a bold move and wasn't that bad of a film. A parody of old spanish films, casa di mi padre is deliberately filmed poorly, with bad continuity and noticeable props and backdrops. This all adds to the comedy and has suttle laughs as apposed with laugh out loud moments we are so used to seeing Ferrell in.
