Cats Don't Dance Reviews
Cats don't dance is my most favorite Warner Bros., animated film I give this film a 10/10
I Like That Darla Said "CUT! CUT CUT CUT!"
The greatest 1.25 hours of animation and music!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It was a really funny and very purr-fect animated family musical comedy movie. It had very refreshing animation, really extraordinary voice cast, really fun characters, really engaging songs, very wacky comedy, really great adventure, really astonishing backgrounds and a really cute story. In my opinion, I think it’s one of my personal favorite animated movies of the 90s so far. My favorite song is “Nothing’s Gonna Stop Us Now” (the final song). I definitely recommend this film to both children and adults.
To this day I can hear the faint echoes of fellow animation students crying in outrage that this movie is STILL so under appreciated. Real ones know this is a CLASSIC
A very refreshing animated movie. A love letter to classic Hollywood and animation, it serves as a spark of originality in the 90's era of animation. Sad to see this banger is pretty obscure
Even the kids will struggle to get through it.
The story of an ambitious cat in the 30s of Hollywood draws you right in. His eager childlike enthusiasm about the new, fresh world around him is easy to relate to. The movie has a lot of comedy in it. The film isn't afraid to go through all facets of human emotion and gives each of these emotions the space it deserves to make an impact. Contrasting, highly vibrant characters guide viewers through a colorful, expressive world. The music stays in your ears, even long after you've watched it. The joyfulness and playfulness of the movie is contagious. The movie is a homage to all the Broadway musicals of the 1930s. This nod to culture isn't overly intellectually crafted nor is it pushed to the extent that it would be distracting: It is made simple enough for kids to understand and just right for entertaining viewers of all ages above childhood. Although the film may at first glance seem outdated by today's standards: The film is a real feast and especially if you love cartoons, it is a must-see. The movie definitely has a soul and a good pacing and those two are something hard to achieve in filmmaking.
If you love animation this movie is a must see! The cast is very fun and everything does a great job of getting you invested and making you care. Great songs, great pacing, great characters, amazing and fun art. It does do the Zootopia thing with using animals for a racism allegory though and the problems inherent with that metaphor are the movie's greatest flaws.
Tiene una buena trama y la banda sonora es excelente; es una película muy infravalorada que merece más atención.
While not a masterpiece on par with most of the Disney Renaissance films or The Iron Giant, Cats Don't Dance still has colourful and energetic animation, likable characters, genuinely witty jokes and a catchy soundtrack. This, coupled with some surprising messages about prejudice, result in an underrated gem that deserves its honor as being the first non-Disney film to win the Annie Award for Best Animated Feature.
Cats Don’t Dance is very simple in design and characters, but makes up for it in the music and visuals
In this underrated gem, its somewhat cheap animation and songs are elevated by an exceptional voice cast, enjoyable pace, and surprisingly, an accurately satirical story.
"Cats Don't Dance" is an animated film from 1997 set in 1930s Hollywood. It's unfortunate that not many people know about this movie. It's sadly underrated & flies under the radar for most mainstream audiences. That's really a shame since this movie was a blast! Not terrific and probably won't be on the same level as a Disney movie but it is a very decent flick for children & families! The animation of this movie is solid! It is cleverly drawn & very nice to look at. This film has a nice style to it and includes homages & nods to the classic era of quick talking/ fast paced comedies of the earlier years of cinema which is an art form we definitely don't see much of these days. The main character Danny (Voiced by Scott Bakula) is a little bland at times but is a nice character to star in this film! I enjoyed the female lead character Sawyer while not a laugh out loud character she has an attitude/personality that I found charming. Most of the side characters are pretty forgettable but by far the ones who truly steal the show of this picture are the characters Darla Dimple who is an evil Shirley Temple like child star & her henchman Max who is a ginormous intimidating beast of a man. These two antagonists are hilarious! Every time they were on screen I was laughing. The expressions/animation on Darla are over the top, psychotic, and beyond funny. Plus, the sheer scope & power of her Henchman Max is so inspired that you can't help but laugh. Max speaks like a brute & can exit/enter a room before you even see him! I found it wildly entertaining. But even with that this is a quick sit at only 75mins full of really good musical numbers, decent comedy, fun scenes, & even a subtle commentary about African-American actors from that period in time. If you have young children "Cats Don't Dance" would be an entertaining film to show them and as a bonus, you as a parent would likely be able to watch this & have some fun too! The musical numbers are often too close together with little time in between as if they go from one song and a few minutes later go right into another one but I guess that's understandable with the short running time so I give it a pass. This is truly a solid film that more people should see! Check it out and judge for yourself but until then....I CAN GIVE A BIG & LOUD RECOMMENDATION ON GIVING "Cats Don't Dance" A WATCH!!
Cats Don’t Dance: Pros: - Great Voice Acting - Beautiful Animation - Good Editing - - Fine Directing Cons: - Bland Characters - Not that funny - Predictable Story - Poor Pacing - Weak Script - Music and Songs are not as memorable as most Disney songs Overall Grade: C- (4/10)
