Champions Reviews
Very light, nice flow, jokes keep coming, nice for a chill night
The 95% shows the percentage of Americans who don't have any standard of taste, lol. I love Woody Harrelson, but this story has not only been done in other era's- it was done exactly just 5 years prior- and much better, that one. It's about as predictable as it can be and Woody pretty much phones it in for a performance that requires nothing more than that. The Farrelly brothers had some good movies, this feels like them still trying to create something when they are past the point of having the talent to. I've seen worse movies but I knew exactly every thing that was going to happen before it did- and it did. A movie better fit for the 90's then now.
The jokes keep coming, the story is one you invest in even tho the plot’s a bit predictable, but the main reason for the 5 stars is the actors who play the team. Just wow. This movie has broken through a barrier to showcase & platform actors with a differing mental capacity well able to perform, learn lines, improvise & it seems have a load of fun in a major movie. Bravo everyone involved.
With a cast that I liked before I saw it I knew it wouldn’t disappoint and it didn’t. Including great performances from the team, I thoroughly enjoyed this.
This movie was more than I expected it to be. It was a great movie with an incredible cast to boot. Anyone looking for a real world heartfelt movie I would give this a watch
Heartwarming and funny! My daughter and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Loved the characters. We found ourselves cheering them on!
80/100 - Comfort food, a feel-good movie that nails its genre.
I love Woody. In fact "Woody" was one of my son's first words. I mean he was referring to his Toy Story doll - but still! Check out my longer review: https://youtu.be/GX6PyluSiTE?si=13CuBb_u1doho9cJ
I'm a big fan of sports movies. As far as a bang for your buck, there is no easier way to make a crowd pleaser then making a sports movie. As the movie began, it wasn't winning me over. It felt incomplete. Scenes were missing ambient noise, other times felt like they were missing sound effects or music. Overall, the sound mixing felt thrown together last minute. The production value also felt cheap. There would be 6-minute-long takes of just two actors talking to each other in profile. Nothing impressive is going on in the action or the acting, it just feels lazy. But once I got settled into the world, the movie did have a charm to it. I liked the characters; I liked the underdog story and it had some legitimately good heartwarming moments. I enjoyed that the film didn't feel the need to include a villain to the story. They are all just people trying to get by. It may not be a champion, but it is a solid contender.
*Champions* is a solid 3-star movie that’s fun and easy to watch. Woody Harrelson does a great job as a coach who has to work with a team of players with intellectual disabilities, and the whole cast is really charming. You can tell everyone had a blast making it, and it brings that classic underdog sports story vibe. Yeah, the plot is super cliché, but that doesn’t make it less enjoyable. Directed by Bobby Farrelly, who’s known for his older, quirky comedies, the movie has a lot of laughs and sweet moments. The only issue is the pacing; it drags in places, and cutting it down a bit would’ve helped. But overall, *Champions* is funny, uplifting, and hits the right notes for a light sports dramedy. It’s nothing amazing, but if you’re in the mood for feel-good fun, it’s worth a watch!
The movie could have done without the forced love plot. They could've focused more on bringing awareness to the hardships intellectually disabled people face day to day, for example the Benny subplot which was not fleshed out enough as it could have been. The main character wasn't a champion, he was very unlikeable compared to the friends who were benched in their own movie.
Champions was a very enjoyable film with moments that will make you laugh and also melt your heart. Woody Harrelson is our lead who is sentenced to community service time due to a drunk and driving incident. Rather then spend time in jail Woody opts to coach a local team whose players have intellectual disabilities. I went into this movie thinking it was going to be a total slapstick comedy due to the fact that it's from one of the creative minds behind comedy classics like Dumb and Dumber, Kingpin, and Something About Marry. Instead this movie had moments that will really tug at your heart strings. Champions is a great watch and I would certainly see it again. Champions gets a high 3 1/2 stars out of 5.
Fun, lighthearted, wholesome. Everything a person needs on a Sunday evening to enjoy some chips and coke. A goodfeel movie with a great message. Nothing totally surprising, but worth the watch.
Aside from its intentions to signify this as an easy pass towards feel-good acceptance regardless of the plot’s flawed hindrances, the critical points show how derivatively rehashed and routine the game plan is whilst more sensibly directed with ridicule cheese and slight humorous heart, humbly centralized by Harrelson. (B-)
CHAMPIONS is a charming small-scale dramedy with a genuinely funny cast and a big heart, one that dodges obvious sentimentality by shooting instead for more earnest goals and that make this one a real winner.
Woody Harrelson, en una película de basketball ¿qué podría salir mal? Respuesta: nada. Entretenida, conmovedora, con mensaje. Vale la pena.
Está bien para la audiencia en casa!!!
Awesome movie with an awesome message. The acting was great, there's comedy, there's drama, it's got a little bit of it all. Definitely check it out 👍
This was an awesome movie! Woody Harrelson did an amazing job and so did the entire team. Must see movie.
An OK remake, like many of the ones in recent years, that make almost an identical movie, but with Hollywood people... But the original will always be better in this cases where it is a memorable film. Hard to surpass
