I just really really loved this movie

One of my favourite feel good films that makes you want to find that passion in your life and go after it! Amazing cast and lovely dialogue. Inspirational and heart warming, with a little more cinematography would have been rated perfect.

Jon Favreau’s Chef is a love letter to food, family, and passion, all rolled into a delectable tale of reinvention. The film is the story of Carl Casper, a talented chef whose creative spark has been dulled by the constraints of a rigid restaurant owner. When a public altercation with a food critic costs him his job, Carl embarks on a journey to rediscover his culinary voice, reestablish his connection with his son, and savor the beauty of life’s simpler joys. What makes Chef truly perfect is how it resonates on every emotional level. It’s a story brimming with heartfelt humanity. You feel Carl’s frustration, his vulnerability, and ultimately, his triumph. The relationship between Carl and his son, Percy, is especially touching—it captures the beautiful imperfection of fatherhood with raw honesty. Watching their bond evolve is both heartwarming and relatable, leaving a mark on anyone who’s ever navigated the tricky waters of familial love. Comedy flows naturally throughout the film. It’s not the loud, over-the-top kind, but the warm humor that feels like it could only come from life itself. Whether it’s the banter among the food truck crew or Carl’s social media misadventures, the laughs feel earned and perfectly timed. Visually, the movie is a feast. The food is shot with such reverence that it feels almost spiritual—you can practically smell the grilled cheese sizzling in the pan or taste the Cuban sandwiches fresh off the truck. But beyond the culinary aesthetics, the film’s pacing and storytelling are equally flawless. Every scene serves a purpose, every character contributes, and every emotion feels authentic. Favreau not only directs but leads the charge as Carl, delivering a performance that’s understated yet deeply compelling. The supporting cast, including Sofia Vergara, John Leguizamo, and Scarlett Johansson, add layers to the story without overshadowing its heart. At its core, Chef is about rediscovering joy—whether it’s in your work, your relationships, or the simple act of making a perfect sandwich. It’s a celebration of passion, resilience, and the beauty of starting over. From the script to the soundtrack, there isn’t a single misstep. This is a rare film that truly has no flaw—it’s uplifting, heartfelt, and endlessly rewatchable.

Jon Favreau’s Chef is a light, heartfelt, and irresistibly charming film that blends food, family, and personal reinvention into an effortlessly enjoyable experience. Favreau directs and stars as a once-celebrated chef who, after a public meltdown, finds new purpose in a cross-country food truck journey with his son and best friend. What makes Chef stand out is its warmth and authenticity. The film avoids heavy-handed drama in favor of a breezy, feel-good tone, carried by Favreau’s likable performance and a strong supporting cast, including John Leguizamo, Sofia Vergara, and Dustin Hoffman. The cinematography captures food in a way that is downright mouthwatering, making it as much a love letter to cooking as it is to self-expression. Though it plays things safe narratively, Chef is a joy to watch—a film that radiates passion and positivity, leaving you satisfied in the best way.

Everyone complains films aren’t what they use to be. Studios don’t take chances. This is exactly the type of film many of us grew up on. The script and story is heartfelt and it’s the kind of story we all can probably relate to in one way or the other. Films don’t need to be 3 solid acts they can also just be an adventure that starts and flows and ends and you just kinda ride through it. Jon Favreaux understands what many of us are yearning for when it comes to filmmaking (Oh, and i wish they’d let him direct the next Star Wars installments it seems like kinda an obvious no brainer).

Chef. A film that both made and ruined my life. I am 67 years old and I am not allowed within 500 feet of my grand daughters school. watching movies is the only time I get to spend with her nowadays. we both loved it so much we started watching every single weekend. she kept telling her friends about it and invited them too. next thing you know i had 35 4th graders at my house watching chef every weekend. I am writing this with my last 30 minutes of freedom as I am being sent to guantanamo bay for Electronic Enticement of a Minor / indecent exposure(unrelated) . truly an amazing piece of film. rotting in a cell with my roommate jamal for the rest of my life is worth it. Thanks Steve Harvey! #groomed!

Chef delivers its flavors and spices with a dynamic between Jon Favreau and his cast. As a passionate cook, I was inspired by the film. The energy of the film is full of delight, the dynamic and charisma of the actors’ performances, and the overall enjoyment of the movie all come together to create a perfectly satisfying culinary experience. Grading: A-

I really don't understand why the critic's rating is what it is. I usually endure movies to the end because I want the experience bad or good. And I love Jon Favreau. But with this movie, I started it twice and did not finish it. I was so bored. Sorry but not a recommend from me.

Starts well, ends far too soppily. At some point the cooking and the film goes from haute cuisine to a bunch of melts. By the end you’ve eaten far too much junk food for it to taste palatable. Weird that Scarlett agreed to such a small walk on role, maybe a favour to someone. Vergara is annoying and a terrible actress. Quite how the fat dad bod + guy attracts two stunning looking women though. Has somehow become something of a cult favourite, often described as underrated but that view has become so prevalent that I can only now consider it as vastly overrated. Good soundtrack but gets worse as the film progresses. Almost feels like first and second half of film are directed by different people. The constant ad placements and twitter obsession grates too. Watched on Netflix.

So so so so sweeeeet! A father / son comedy drama where the whole family comes together again at the end. Whaaaat a surprise... A twitter and cuban food advertisement. See it if you really want to.

This movie was recommended by IMDb as a feel-good film, but what a disappointment! The gags are outdated and unfunny, the dialogue is excessively verbose and repetitive, and the editing is horrendous—each scene drags on at least five minutes longer than necessary. What’s baffling is how the critics gave it an 87% rating. This highlights how out of touch critics can be with general audiences. Rotten Tomatoes should address this disconnect to ensure critics' reviews align more closely with audience preferences; otherwise, it risks becoming a platform where critics only cater to one another.

Jon Favreau shines as the star of his own movie as a chef that aspires to be greater than he is. When he argues with a food critic and accidentally starts a war between him and the critic, his life turns around in an unexpected way as he, his son, and the talented John Leguizamo decide to take their business to the next level by taking themselves down just a peg. A beautifully done story of a father who wants to be more than what is laid out in front of him and so he takes his chances and trusts the right people, whether he likes it or not, so that he may have the future he’s always wanted. With talent like Scarlett Johannson, Jon Favreau, John Leguizamo, Sofia Vergara, Robert Downey Jr. and so many, many other wonderful actors, and wonderful looking food crafted and cared for by famous real-life chef, Roy Choi, it's hard not to love something about this movie.
