Chef Flynn Reviews
Why is not anyone worried about a kid working nonstop or do child labor laws not apply as well? Where are his friends? Because after service, he cannot go out drinking at bars with his coworkers.

McGarry is a fascinating subject, but 'Chef Flynn' is too fascinated with him to paint a proper portrait.

It's impossible to watch the film and not be impressed by his gastronomy skills, even if his personality and perfectly quaffed hair might rub you the wrong way.

The large segment of the LGBTQ filmgoing community hooked on 온라인카지노추천 cooking shows will find one coming attraction to be literally mouth-watering.

I love the free range movement and thought this was a tremendous example of it.

Eureka is the name Flynn gave his in-house restaurant and pop-ups, and it would seem the exclamation is an apt title for his still blossoming career.

The film doesn't quite come together.

Just wait for the grainy color film of the toddler version of the movie's titular chef blithely playing on the floor with his own pots and pans in fated anticipation of his future calling. It's too adorbs for words.
| Original Score: 3/5 | Dec 6, 2018
Because we only follow Flynn into his mid teens, we don't get to see how all this turns out, but what we do get is a portrait of a young man at a critical stage in his career, and a glimpse of the drive it takes to realise a childhood dream.

The viewer is handed carefully curated highlights, and while there's plenty here for foodies to marvel over, there's not a sophisticated portrait of Flynn and his internal drive.

The adult world of fine dining soon comes calling, overwhelming all sense of fun and play.

Flynn, who looks like a younger version of the young Christian Slater, is skinny, intense, a bit wary. If you've ever been the parent of a male adolescent - if you've ever been a male adolescent - you'll recognize him.
| Original Score: 2.5/4 | Nov 23, 2018
The proof is-sorry!-in the pudding: Flynn's dishes are elegantly composed and bursting with creativity, and the audience reactions (at least those we're privy to) are typically rapturous. The kid's got something, and that can't be bought.

It's somewhat difficult in 2018 to find rooting interest in the story of a straight white male born into a wealthy household who manages to achieve his dream at an early age.

Some salty talk in easygoing docu about talented young chef.
| Original Score: 3/5 | Nov 20, 2018
"Chef Flynn" seems more suited for an hour-long show on the Food Network. Its 82-minute running time, although short for a feature film, seems too bloated for this story.

Whether hitting a curveball or creating haute cuisine, there is something fascinating about watching a precocious talent at work.

Such family dynamics makes director Cameron Yates' film something of a failure as a conventional food documentary. But it's that very tension that makes the material work as nonfiction drama.
| Original Score: 3/5 | Nov 15, 2018
What sets this lively, engaging doc apart is that we see Flynn become a culinary star through the eyes of his mother.

... acknowledges its subject's talent while keeping the material honest rather than hagiographic.
