White privilege at its best. When my son missed 3 days of school I was warned that they would call social services on me. But this kid can drop out because he has a job? Bs

Good for you, Chef Flynn! Most people would do anything to have the passion for their occupation that you have for yours. Rock on!

Chef Flynn is a terrific true tale of an unschooler, and how hardship tempers and forms us. At its heart is Flynn, altogether charming in his steadfast focus on the prize, adding the title Chef to his name. Behind the scenes, but everywhere in Flynn's life, is Meg, his unconventional mom, cheerleader, and the one who makes sure that what her child wants happens. Some would say after parents split, with Flynn's father suffering from alcoholism and depression, that he would need school and activities to be whole. Wisely his mom listened to her son and followed his vision for his own life, enabling him to form and realize his dream bit by bit. Only by being an unshooler at home was he able to dive deeply into the work that called him and become an expert at a young age. Kudos to Meg and parents like her. She admits that she had a different vision for her life before she discovered how much she loved being a mom. It's really a testament to the love of Flynn's parents that they provided the support for their son to learn to fly and take off to soar on their own. Team Flynn FTW!

Just had the good fortune to see this at a screening at SXSW festival. This is a wonderful movie about a young person with a passion and talent for cooking, and equally, a tenderly told story about his relationship with his family. I hope that if you are reading this, it is because this movie was distributed outside of the festivals and you now have the opportunity to see it. If so: go see it. And have dinner reservations somewhere nice after, because you will be hungry!
