Cleaner Reviews
Daisy Ridley's spirited performance leads Martin Campbell's lacklustre Die Hard clone.

A messy derivative action pic set in London.

Cleaner starts off as a promising thriller that's obviously inspired by Die Hard, with a hero battling office-invading terrorists. But as the movie goes along, it becomes too ridiculous to take. Everything devolves into corny dreck with uneven acting.

Regardless, and despite its obvious budget constraints, “Cleaner” is a certainly entertaining, action-packed romp that’s also well-shot. [Full review in Spanish]

Beyond the familiar, it’s not a complete loss. The skyscraper setting makes for some hilarious moments...

Saving the thrilling, exciting action for the final act was an odd choice as all of the potential suspense have no impact. Cleaner is just one long drawn-out appetizer with a quickly rushed through main course.

Cleaner [is] a, well, slightly cleaner, more economical thriller that fits Daisy Ridley neatly into an adequate but obviously cheap Die Hard knockoff.

'Cleaner' is like if Bruce Willis sat around for an hour instead of figuring out how to yippee-ki-yay terrorists in 'Die Hard.' Somebody get Ridley a new agent.

It’s Daisy Ridley washing windows while eco-terrorists wreak havoc inside a building, and one unlikely hero must clean up the mess. In essence, Cleaner is a vintage action film with a modern twist.
| Original Score: 3/4 | Feb 26, 2025
Instead of having a heavy-handed story with messages as if we were watching an Afterschool Special for adults, Cleaner should have allowed Ridley to say “yippee-ki-yay mother***ker,” recruit the next Alan Rickman to be the Big Bad and been more fun.
| Original Score: 6/10 | Feb 25, 2025
Cleaner is uniquely entertaining as it unravels from a high-stakes crime heist to a full-blown action thriller set in modern-day London.
| Original Score: B- | Feb 25, 2025
Daisy Ridley removes dirt, grime, and terrorist slime in the B-movie action thriller. The action scenes are well-choreographed with good special effects. Campbell is proficient at creating tension, and the performances are solid.

Ridley might not bring much dimensionality to Joey as a character, but she does bring a ton of physicality: She looks like she’s having the time of her life getting down and dirty for the film’s myriad beatdowns.

The absolutely best parts of this film are every time Daisy Ridley get to kick some major a**, I wanted a better and more original story for her.
| Original Score: 2.5/5 | Feb 24, 2025
Cleaner isn’t reinventing the hostage thriller playbook, but this is a well-put-together and entertaining throwback worth a watch.
| Original Score: B+ | Feb 24, 2025
What makes Martin Campbell’s Cleaner such an entertaining ride is the central performance by Daisy Ridley...Yes, it’s the usual ‘disillusioned-therefore-reluctant-hero’ role but she gives it more depth than usual.
| Original Score: B- | Feb 24, 2025
An improbable and ethically muddled action flick, Cleaner is a mess.
| Feb 24, 2025
Daisy Ridley holds her own, there is too little of Clive Owen and the script too quickly sidelines the moral quandary of our rooting interest (beyond Ridley) for a too-warmed over Die Hard wannabe that never takes full advantage of its premise.
| Original Score: 2/4 | Feb 23, 2025
While this is a standard action film in the mold of Die Hard, with a limited budget, it holds up well thanks to some plot twists and a spirited performance by Daisy Ridley, with good support from Matthew Tuck, Taz Skylar and Ruth Gemmell.

You might say it’s like seeing “Die Hard” through a smudged window. Someone fetch the Windex.
