Columbus Reviews
Modernity itself is what architecture is meant to reflect, only to been seen as the film's biggest irony with two characters who refuse to let themselves progress forward...it's a complete and wonderful arc, made by a wonderful architect.

Columbus mostly seems like a movie that doesn’t want to disturb anyone, which is counterproductive when you’ve got characters wrestling with increasingly obvious, quite serious emotional problems related to damage done by their parents.

But the most potent ingredients are the two lead performances. Cho is a natural at subtlety – somber, reserved and authentic at every turn. But it’s Richardson who steps out as a true revelation.

While the characters are often swallowed up by the amazing buildings, their humanity never fades in this sweet and memorable drama.

Columbus just let me watch two people fumble through their lives and let me feel for them. It asks us to acknowledge the intellectual facts but make our own intuitive conclusions about what they should do, and how they and we feel.

Visually arresting and replete with contemplative moments, Columbus spotlights the eponymous Indiana town... Exquisitely rendered by cinematographer Elisha Christian, the otherwise quotidian structures of banks, libraries, and hospitals all become seen.

A rarity in its ability to remain as intelligent as it is approachable, even as it defies the usual indie conventions about a sad man meeting a sad young girl, Columbus is a handsomely crafted achievement.

Columbus is one of those gems that doesn't seem like anything extraordinary until you're sitting through the credits trying to absorb what you just watched.

The rare magic of Columbus, a human drama infused with a spooky, out-of-body ethereality, lies in its confident and ingenious execution.

Kogonada shows some promise, but the film is positively listless by the end, and fairly lacking in substance given the intelligentsia trappings and novel-like tone.
