Coming 2 America Reviews
I am watching it for the second time. Much better appreciation on the move songs and themes. It's not meant to be complex just enjoyed. On par with the first for sure and the way Eddie plays the different characters is second to none.
One reason and one reason only Eddie Murphy did this film....$$$$$$$ . abysmal, 99% of films should never be remade decade+ later
The original was fun. This one was dreadful.
Well, I guess we all enjoyed the original, decades ago, but though it's nice to see Eddie again, this new version/addition has a lot of pomp, but very little on the comic side. Eddie's and Arsenio's camouflage appearances in 4 different roles each might be interesting on the makeup techs, but maybe we've seen this stuff too many times by now. The whole movie simply relies on the same ridiculous exaggeration of the first one, only multiplied by 10, and nothing else! So even this flick might while away those 100+ minutes, it is surely nothing one needs to see. 4 of 10 points
Not sure why this movie did'nt get more love, I found it very entertaining and the costuming is beautiful.
As a lover of the original film this sequel was cringy from start to wherever I finished it. Such a disappointment.
Y'all crazy, this movie was fantastic! I was 17 years old in 1988 and this sequel really brought it! All the cameos and the storyline were well done and the throw back was totally nostalgic. Whoever rated this for Rotten Tomatoes and the audience were probably Millennials or Gen Z who weren't there and just don't get it. COMPLETELY AND UTTERLY UNDERRATED. BLASPHEMY! Eddie Murphy is a MOVIE GOD and I am totally offended by the ratings. Go back under your rocks or on your phones and stop rating movies that you are not qualified to rate. I spit in your general direction! PTUI, PTUI, PTUI!
A great comedy with perfect comic timing (not this sh*t, the first movie)
This is great but not quite as great as the first movie. It has some of the same issues as the first movie. But primarily, I think the main problem is for some reason they decide to make it PG-13. It's a direct to Amazon Prime movie, so that wider audience excuse for more box office bucks doesn't fly with this one. I would love to know why they took out the f bombs and the brief nudity the first had? Because I can't think of a thing. But others might condemn it for that poor decision, I still find it funny. The new young cast works and it could have surpassed the first if they went the full R, it's still great as is.
Mikey's Movie Review: Coming 2 America Originally intended for cinematic release, Amazon reportedly paid Paramount $125 million for an exclusive premiere. Whether or not they are content with their purchase only time will tell, but it's exactly what you feared it would be. It's difficult to know who this film is aimed at. For those of us who grew up during the '80's, with Coming To America and Eddie Murphy's more adult output (Trading Places, Beverley Hills Cop, 48 Hours), this is simply a tired, PG-13 retred of a funnier R-rated original. Although those who prefer the sillier slapstick of his family friendly late '90's work (The Nutty Professor, Dr. Dolittle) will be equally disappointed. Writer Director Craig Brewer whose recent film Dolemite Is My Name (2019) gave Eddie Murphy his best role since Showgirls (2006) has basically given us a mostly laugh free, child friendly edit of the original. True, 30+ years on many of the jokes in the 1988 version might raise a PC eyebrow or two. But by repeating and censoring so many of the first film's best gags, while retelling the same story via the main protagonists kids (in doing so sidelining both Eddie Murphy & Arsenio Hall!), loses any good will we might have had to see these characters again. An incredible cast, but a missed opportunity and a true disappointment for Eddie Murphy fans. Mikey's Movie Rating: 2/5*
Waste of time, lazy plot, shoddy acting, an insult to the legacy of the first. The only good thing about this movie is that it never got shown in theatres.
Way to much (Comedy,Dancing and Singing), very Weak Plot, CGi being used, the Movie is NOT Funny at all, the Storyline is Mad Corny, it Takes Place mostly in Zamunda instead of America in Queen's New York City, No involvement of the Characters (Daryl, Patrice, or Samuel L. Jackson), the Dude that Plays Akeem's Son is Not Convincing at all Acting Wise because He Had No Chemistry with Eddie Murphy, they should have Kept it like the First one from 1988 and should've let John Landis Direct this one . . . i'm VERY Disappointed in Eddie Murphy for Letting this Corny Stuff Go down like this, we waited 30 years for this Waste of Time, the Movie 🎥 should've been Called (Coming 2 Zamunda)
Not enough new here.
Great Movie!!! Highly Recommended!!! A++ 🍿🎥🍿
Neat follow up to the original, but not close to being as funny. A lot of the original cast appears, but some of the new characters fall alittle short in creativity! Story itself was alittle bit of a retread but suffice if you really like the 1st film! If the original was 9-10 then this one is about a 6-7. Not bad, but not great
I'll stick with nostalgia. I loved the first one so much, I can no longer recall how many times I watched it... It was one of those when you watch it to the end and immediately start from the beginning. Of course, it was too much to live up to, but I think this one didn't live up even to a half of that. I did like the characters. I was glad to see Eddie Murphy on screen again. That was what urged me on.
Coming 2 America was a bad movie it was not as good as the original the characters where too over the top and the jokes where not funny at all.
I have never had such mixed feelings about a movie. I must say the 2nd time I watched it was definitely better so that is a plus. Compared to the old, this definitely had more glam, more gold but less class. It felt a bit rushed which was a trend for most movies done in the early Covid era so I'll be forgiving there. I appreciate the effort to keep familiar faces esp. James Earl Jones and the Barber shop legends providing some consistency as well as the new faces and great humor. Overall if the first one was a 10/10 this was more like a 7. I don't normally repeat movies but I have watched this now about 3 times...the First one maybe just over a million times
I liked the first one. This one took something good from the first, but overall is still bad. Not great humour (not even made me smile) and the story was too obvious and banal.
This movie is just absolutely appalling. I can't believe they released it!? Eddie what were you thinking....!!!???
