Confess, Fletch Reviews

It’s a great fit for Jon Hamm’s talents, and if you didn’t know Chevy Chase had done this before, there’s nothing to flag that the onscreen version didn’t originate with Hamm. He just slips straight into that skin.

| Original Score: 3/5 | May 14, 2023

The characters are so sharply drawn that the humour flows naturally. Forget the superheroes, Confess, Fletch starts the franchise we actually need.

| Original Score: 3.5/5 | May 11, 2023

Hamm's portrayal is more roguish with a sharper wit, and the plot is less reliant on the broad humour and wacky high jinks of its predecessors.

| Original Score: 4/5 | Feb 16, 2023

This is an entertaining romp that deserves to not only find an audience -- but also at least a shot at a follow-up.

| Original Score: 4/5 | Feb 8, 2023

This movie is simply a joyless exercise in reasserting that just because you recognize your movie kind of sucks does not, unfortunately, stop it from sucking.

| Original Score: 4/10 | Jan 22, 2023

A terrific movie that eschews any comparison to Chase's hits entirely, offering something different in today's comedy and featuring a fresh and inspired Hamm. [Full review in Spanish]

One of the year’s best comedies...

| Dec 13, 2022

Not familiar with the previous Chevy Chase Fletch movie, but Jon Hamm is a hoot as a hapless, wisecracking investigator.

| Original Score: 3.5/5 | Dec 5, 2022

Jon Hamm proves a deft stand-in for Chevy Chase, and Confess, Fletch is a more than suitable distraction for viewers.

| Original Score: 3/5 | Nov 24, 2022

The third Fletch film could have done with a lot more silliness.

| Original Score: 3/5 | Nov 20, 2022

…long live the new Fletch!…a minor but decidedly fun film noir, as laid back as an episode of The Rockford Files, but with acres of charm from Hamm…

| Original Score: 3/5 | Nov 20, 2022

Confess, Fletch is a fun enough reboot and continuation of the Fletch franchise but this one might not warrant any more entries to the tired series.

| Original Score: 3/5 | Nov 19, 2022

The dialogue gets a bit relentlessly wisecracky, but there are some genuinely funny lines and a couple of cracking scenes, with Hamm also getting strong support from Kyle MacLachlan and the fabulous Marcia Gay Harden.

| Original Score: 3/5 | Nov 18, 2022

There’s something turgid and defeated about it.

| Original Score: 2/5 | Nov 17, 2022

It’s amiable entertainment, and Hamm may well develop in the character if this becomes a franchise.

| Original Score: 3/5 | Nov 17, 2022

Even if you’re wholly unfamiliar with the franchise, Confess, Fletch will find fans among anyone who likes mystery-comedies, wickedly dry humour, and the sight of Kyle MacLachlan twirling glow-sticks to club music.

| Original Score: 4/5 | Nov 16, 2022

The multi-talented Hamm demonstrates herewith that he can carry a comedy the way we always suspected he could.

| Original Score: 4/5 | Nov 14, 2022

Jon Hamm clearly is having a field day with this, and I’m sure he and Greg Mottola could crank out 10 more of these for nickels and dimes.

| Nov 10, 2022

Hamm understands that finding the common ground between mystery and farce might be more important than scoring with individual jokes.

This is the kind of movie you want to hang out with and sip on hibiscus wine while you make ornate and experimental pasta dishes.
