Confidence Reviews

I didn’t care for it despite the colorful cast

While it's an ordinary crime film with a deft hand as the filmmaker wants to pull of the unexpected complicating turns that builds up with a twisted hidden agenda (akin to practicing an underdog story's capable score), it's the beneficially well-casted players that signifies the picture with their captivating charm functioning dynamically. Structurally sound, anyone could pull off the given prompt aside from the inspired direction under contributing fun by genre practice expressing one's skills, the committed performative energy is the uniqueness behind its independence's defined experience, with Dustin Hoffman's corruption being the particularity that brought the film under the watchlist radar, resulting it as worthwhile despite mixed similarities derived from other cinematic hits. I love a good conman caper, but this falls way short because of the script. Didn't like the narration. Didn't like the fact that the narrator is speaking after his death (or is he?). Didn't like all the cutesy nicknames ("The King," "Tommy Suits"). Didn't like the forced banter. Didn't like the underuse of the great Robert Forster. And all of the ultimate switcheroos were sadly predictable.

A bunch of con artists try to pull one over on to many people. You try to con the mob then your in trouble.

This was a very entertaining and interesting movie about a look inside the confidence game. The psychological techniques used to gain peoples trust are very enlightening and interesting. Dustin Hoffman is great as a pervy racketeer/businessman. Ed Byrnes and the rest of the cast play their parts well also. The plot holds your interest and the ending surprises you. Even after you know what happens I found it worth seeing again.

"Confidence" is a light, stylish caper -- a smarter, funnier, "Oceans Eleven" -- with clever twists and charming characters in Ed Burns, Rachel Weisz, Dustin Hoffmann and Andy Garcia. Burns moves with such wry wit and sheer cool -- while still compellingly warm -- that my one regret is "Confidence" is the closest he's ever come to getting the honest-to-God badass noir role he deserves.

"Cute." It starts all wrapped up in a 100% 2000's energy, the music, the edit, that cool style you already miss, maybe not aged that well, but the story is overwhelming, catchy, you'll never get bored especially with the appearances of a Hoffman in his only true bad guy role. And the ending is mesmerizing! Lots of fun!

Surprisingly, it somehow maintained focus throughout. I say ‘surprisingly' because if one considers the many different elements involved then it's easy to see how it could have lost focus. There's a lot more to this than it may seem and it keeps it together somehow.

Sometimes the con game movies try to hard. Gene Hackman's Heist and Will Smith's Focus are examples of the con game genre that can't quite pull it off due to trying too hard--Heist's dialogue failing to sound as cool as the writers thought it sounded and Focus' reliance on the outlandishness of the outlandish character. Confidence names the protagonist Vig, which is the amount of interest people pay loan sharks, and that's about the level the movie sticks to throughout. Rachael Weisz is largely wasted though Paul Giamatti makes the most of what he has to work with by essentially reprising his character in The Negotiator. I was guessing Edward Burns took the role in hopes of escaping the Rom-Com hell he had been inhabiting for years but it turns out he did Confidence before the Rom-Coms.....so Confidence set him up for Rom Com hell. What more do you need to know?

Nice confidence gameS. Well done.

A good suspense. Succeeded on drawing me in. The film left out some key points that would make more sense. Edward Burns puts on a charismatic performance. Dustin Hoffman is a laughable villain, I wouldn't use "dominant". Good movie, mediocre at worst

Edward Burns stars as a con man who accidentally cons crime kingpin Dustin Hoffman and makes a deal to con lawyer Robert Forster out of a shitload of money to pay him back. I didn't care at all about anything that happened in this flick. Burns is not a bad actor by any means, but he's featureless and uninteresting in this film. He's got a good supporting cast surrounding him ... Paul Giamatti and Rachel Weisz are in his crew. Luis Guzman and Donal Logue are crooked cops. Andy Garcia is a government agent. It still feels like one big flashy exercise in empty cleverness.

Tastelessly obvious.

One of my favorite movies. Exiting from the beginning to the end!

Edgy, funny and an entertaining mob?con movie. The cast is incredible, the good actors are in this flick. Oceans Eleven-ish

Fairly average crime film but Dustin Hoffman has no idea how to play a villain.

A Chinese puzzle of a movie with lots of mazes, twists and turns. With narration that becomes addictive the story is complex thus brilliant as one tries to use ones mind to work it all out. Actors do a great job making the characters become believable rascals. Dustin gives one of his master classes in acting and creates a lot of laughter along the way. Nibbles: Italian Asparagus Quiche.

A mediocre con pic with a blustering Burns and a super-obvious plot.
