Critters Reviews
'Critters' is 'Gremlins'-esque fun overall, though it isn't supremely enjoyable all the way through; I felt some pacing issues. The titular aliens do look the part though, even all these years later. The practical effects are nice, that house explosion is particularly great. Scott Grimes is the actor that stood out most to me whilst watching. I do like how the kid is written, usually in these sorta films they tend to be only annoyingly bratty but here there are a couple of moments where you can see Brad's good; e.g. with Charlie, or with his mum. A nice touch, I thought. It is a movie that I'd say lacks consistent thrill, but all in all it's one I'll still be considering as passable. Hopefully the sequels are more critter-centric than human-centric though, that's the only way I reckon a franchise like this could avoid bad follow-ups.
Critters is just gremlins with a horror twist but it's very campy and doesn't really have a satisfying ending and it doesn't really pose much of a threat.
It was worth the watch ✌🏾
Fun science fiction/horror/comedy thanks a solid cast and fantastic creatures from the Chiodo Brothers. The cast is solid but nothing special, obviously having fun with the premise. Behind the camera, director Stephen Herek directs a breezy film at a brisk 90 minutes, having fun with the premise of mischievous aliens. The real stars are the Critters, brilliantly designed by the Chiodo Brothers, who manage to be both cute and menacing, whether rolling around like furballs or shooting poisonous quills. The stroke of genius is providing sub-titles for their speech to hilarious effect. Is it a perfect film, no, but it is a fun one.
Neat little monster movie.
If you are looking for a funny, goofy, cult classic horror movie the I would recommend the critters.
We've already meet Gremlins in 1984 but now we've got Gremlins like creatures from space who loves to make chaos and mayhem and eating everything and killing people and I had really a blast is really hilarious sci-fi horror comedy and spectacular creature effects.
A good horror movie and the start of a good quadrilogy.
The stupid movie is just that stupid. It is not a good movie to watch
As a lover of cheesier scary movies, Critters has been on my list for a while. While this isn't winning any awards, it is certainly a fun time! With actors that are cheesier than Gouda, the personalities are larger than life and expressions are almost anime-esque. Unfortunately, it is a long feeling lead up, with plenty of talking and character development before we get any action, which made the majority of the film a boring and slow. Though once the action starts, it is a fun ride all the way to the end. The Critters are creepy, humorous, and genuinely scary, which surprises me that they are not more mainstream of a movie monster. This is a quick and fun film, so while it isn't close to perfect, it is definitely worth a watch.
A fun landing makes this film, overall, a nice choice for a pizza night with friends or anything like that. The monsters are very well made along with the practical effects, and the main storyline is actually entertaining. But I think this movie loses a bit of its flow switching to characters that are there just so we think there's more complexity to this story.
I was expecting a fun time with a ok story. Nope. I could see that in this draining hour and 25 minute film. Also the Crites are not really scary or intense at all. But they did make me laugh when the one reacted to his boy getting blasted by the shotgun. 5/10
This might be a very unpopular opinion, but this movie is very underrated and is a must-see. Many people accuse it of being a Gremlins rip-off, but it was written WAY before that. I think that the Krites look GREAT, and are way more savage and vicious than ever before and are more realistic than the Gremlins. Don't let the new reboots fool you, the OG is and always will be the best! A+++++++
⛔️ WARNING SPOILERS 👇 HOLY SH**t!!! I've been in and out the film industry on and off for 15 years. And till this day no film ever has ever had the thrill, the impact, the joy, the pain, and generational successes that Critters had. This film has set the bar for all of the entertainment industry. Critters has succeeded in all the points of literature with amazing story telling and foreshadowing. This film is with out a doubt a 5 star would recommend to any film connoisseur or casual enjoyer of movies. This film was captivating and had me on the edge of my seat great film. -B
What a weird fun movie. Not particularly top 100 as far as B movies go, but if you're looking for a fun "horror" film, this one's pretty darn good, and is far more nutty than most. Special effects are awful, but the practical effects are great. I think I'd have given it more stars if it had a bit more of the actual Critters. I recommend it, if you're into silly horror films, but this may not work so well if you want an ‘actual' horror film. I'm less a fan of those, so this works for me.
Silly and goofy, this slapstick spoof of "Gremlins" never quite soars, but considering what it is, that's not that relevant of a gripe.
I loved this movie growing up, and it's overall very memorable!
good fun i like it a lot
