Danger Close: The Battle of Long Tan Reviews

Jan 24, 2025

One of the best Vietnam war movies ever, full of emotions and great action

After i have seen the movie i checked on Wikipedia: the movie was done in Queensland, Austraila in woods completely different from monsonic jungle. So "well done" by the actors, but "crap" for the location.

I don't normally bother with movie reviews but this particular movie is a must-see for anyone interested in seeing the reality of battles fought in Vietnam. I had to put in my two cents on this one as I think the current rating scores are drastically lower than the experience that is watching this film deserves.

Very perspective and graphic film of the Vietnam war.

Action packed from beginning to end. The movie brought you into the battle from the beginning enabling me to relate to the decisions and action. Well worth watching as I am a history buff surrounding strategic battles such as this one.

The Diggers fought in the Vietnam war too, and on the right side!

If you want to watch a possibly somewhat realistic representation of this battle including periods of boredom interspaced with intense repetitive gunfire, colloquial small talk and a chaotic yet meandering plot, it's fine and likely accurate to how it felt when it happened. However it doesn't make for good viewing. This movie like many Australian productions suffers from multiple high school drama student errors from failing to do a proper editors cut and remove many overproduced scenes that add nothing to the story except runtime, to filming in an obviously non-authentic location where they rely on rain and fog machines to try and cover up the vastly different vegetation. Great potential, poor execution.

The movie was great, nothing to complain about,

Early conflict in Vietnam from the perspective of the Australian army. True story with excellent filming and acting.

Just another Western movie about feeling proud they invaded and murdered countless Vietnamese.

Starts off a little bit slow, but its a very good war film about a real life battle that took place in Vietnam.

Positive reviews here convinced me to watch Danger Close. Unfortunately, the reviews seem to conveniently ignore the movie's flaws. And those are quire glaring. Poorly described characters, a setting that doesn't even try to look like anywhere in Asia, bad CGI, terribly orchestrated scenes of death ("stay low, stay low!" [*gets up and takes a hit*])... It's painful to watch the movie to the end.

The buildup of the story works well, as does the subsequent character development. Whilst there are reported issues with the history being shown, it is, however, a well constructed examination of the endurance, struggles, small victories, and the fine line between bravery and pigheaded insubordination.

A great captivating war movie perfect for a Friday night. Some outstanding acting depicting Australian and New Zealand cohesion.

Lots of factual liberties must have been taken in the telling of this tale. The end result is a compelling war drama. The action is first-rate even with no big-studio backing. No recognizable faces amongst the cast makes it easier to relate to the plight of those young men fighting a pointless war.

This war movie was really good. Travis Fimmel, Luke Bracey, Daniel Webber, Richard Roxburgh, and the rest of the cast did an excellent job in this movie. This true story about the Battle of Long Tan during the Vietnam War was intense, courageous, and dramatic. It's about fighting for each other and protecting your company even if the odds are against you. If you haven't seen this movie yet, check it out sometime. It's a must see.

One of the better Vietnam flicks I ever seen. I knew Australia was in it but did not know New Zealand was in it too. This war was one of the most screwed up ever; to my Aussie, & NZ cousins sorry about John Kerry (I hate his arrogant butt) This battle was hard fought as it was their Hamburger Hill. I was at the edge of my seat throughout the movie: literally. Well acted, well written and great cinematography. I know they had 500 deaths (way to many) to ours 50,000 but with the country size ratios we had 7 more death to their 1. As my father said he was so against Vietnam (Johnson was a jackass and Nixon took too long): he was a Warrant Class 3 USN in the Seabees 1957 - 1966 ( he left when I was born) and my uncle was a Warrant in the Army Calvary, chopper pilot (he has never got in another helicopter since leaving the Army).

I knew this story before I watched the film. I think it is a good theatrical adaptation of this battle. The script uses lots of military jargon and the actual transcripts of the radio traffic. But that said it is still easy to understand the plot. FYI i liked Platoon but thought Hurt Locker was a joke, the joke being it got an Oscar. So if you liked Hurt Locker don't bother, Danger Close is too realistic. if you liked Platoon do bother.

Absolutely gripping representation of this terrifying battle.

It's pretty good for a war film, very crisp filming, slow motion when necessary, yet fast pace real time to give you a feel of real combat. Probably have to watch with subtitle because I have no idea what these Aussies were saying.
