Dangerous Lies Reviews
Such a ridiculous story. The start is not bad but it gets progressively worse
This has the worst script with the most obvious mystery reveal ever. You can guess all the twists within the first 30 minutes. The acting is really flat and embarrassing too. They also hilariously try to pass off Vancouver, Canada as Chicago, Illinois.
This movie was filled many twists that'll keep you guessing til the end. Tim Treakle
I literally couldn't SEE anyone. Bad lighting through all the important parts. Couldn't even see the dead body which was lowkey important. What the hell? Trying so hard to be edgy.
I literally watched this between browsing my email and Twitter feed, so yes it passed the time. If you want to get frustrated at characters for poor choices, this is the flick for you! Only reason to watch is Camille Mendes.
It's EPIC! Watched it because a friend recommended me this. Totally loved it. I dunno why it has such low ratings, it's actually good. A bit slow but it gives its own kinda fun
It is the worst movie out of all the movies that I have seen. The movie is trying so hard to create a plot twist, and they badly failed in doing that. The plot is all over the place.
Complete garbage. Bad acting
This is an outstanding candidate for insulting black people for being straight ignorant. I thought it was pretty good until Adam suggests that he should find what in the attic needs to be secured with a lock. Then he must search the chest that he has no business searching. Once the money is discovered, neither wonders how he got the cash or more importantly, why it is not in a bank. First rule about life changing amounts of money is if you are going to take it, your life must be left behind and disappear forever. After the bank scene, I stopped watching it. Too many question marks not to lead to way over your head trouble, especially if you are black. As luck would have it, Netflix backed the film and will be less likely to hold the writer responsible for the terrible production.
All I wanted from "Dangerous Lies" was some mindless entertainment in the form of a thriller. This movie is the worst kind of bad movie, because, above everything else, it is just really boring. The movie starts off with a decent premise but as the plot unravels the movie becomes laboriously painful to get through. As someone who loves a good thriller, this is a great example of what not to do in this genre. Overall, this movie is not worth the time unless you're interested in seeing one of the worst movies of the year, because this will definitely lock in a spot in that list for me personally.
From Netflix comes Dangerous Lies, a poorly made crime thriller. After Katie takes a job as a caretaker for an elderly man he dies and leaves everything to her and her husband, but after finding a trunk of cash in the attic and a dead body in a secret room they start to suspect that they're caught up in something nefarious, and the cops begin to suspect things are not right as well. The main cast is pretty bad, especially Camila Mendes, who's unable to sell the material (though Sasha Alexander does alright). And the script does them no favors, as the pot is convoluted as all hell and the dialog is awful. Straight-to-video shlock, Dangerous Lies is an inept film that's bereft of tension and suspense.
So with it unassumingly dropping onto our laps we decided to give the film a go. It didn't suffer to heavily under the weight of our expectation as there wasn't a big named star attached to it. The lead is played by Camilla Mendes who if you watch Riverdale is a big deal. I don't though. I did try but after 6 or so episodes I couldn't watch anymore. She is joined by Jessie T. Usher who has starred in Netflix's Shaft remake and Amazon's original show The Boys. Does anyone know if he's related to Usher himself?! That's something I want to find out. They play a married couple who are left as sole benefactors of an old man (Ross's Dad from Friends) they've just started working for's will. The police though find this pretty odd as it's only been a short time that they've been employed by him. With mysterious people showing up to their house and them both thinking somebodies watching them it isn't long before this story takes a turn. The problem to start with the film was it took a long while before the story took a interesting turn. It was a slow build to start so the first part of the movie does trudge along. It's not a bad start to a film but it won't stop you from scrolling on your iPhone. The middle part of the film though really quickens the pace. We begin to doubt characters we previously trusted and it sows the seed of is there more to this story than meets the eye and are our lead characters as innocent as they proclaim. I mean I reckon I personally would change a bit if I came into all that they do. It's enough to turn anyones head that sort of inheritance. The film does a really good job of bringing us in at this point and us wanting a resolution to the questions posed to us. Sadly though the final act lets it down for me. I guessed the twist ending a bit before the end, but it is still a nice surprise which others may not get. The ending for me though was kind of horribly over acted and over the top. The film did become a bit silly at that point and did lose me when that happened. The inevitable plot twist could have been done a lot better but it felt like a high budget version of Poirot with the people responsible confessing all their sins and explaining the story. Look overall this is probably on the same levels as Extraction was. If it had nailed the ending I would have given it a slightly better rating but I cannot say I was too impressed with that end to the film. That being said it's probably worth the 1 hour and a half of your time. It's not a bad movie but it's not a great movie either. I watched Childs Play the night before and found that a better film than this though. Completely different films but a better watch. I do feel this will be appealing to a lot of people though and will appeal to slightly wider audience than Extraction did as that was just an action movie. Dangerous Lies is an average watchable film. Just like the majority of Netflix original movies are. Well in fact it's probably slightly better than some of the others that they've made but not by a great deal. They still haven't worked out that magic formula for a film where we will go back and watch it more than once. Here's hoping they work it out soon. They should have put a revolving door on the front of the house for every bad actor that was coming and going as they pleased. Don't waste two hours.
“ Pretty good movie with a great storyline and thrilling suspense although I had already figured out the ending!”
This is the most underwhelming and boring murder mystery I've seen in a while. They introduce cool ideas, but don't execute them in a way that makes it entertaining. The acting is pretty bad and the film does borrow some traditional murder mystery tropes that just doesn't work. Overall, this was a pretty bland and bad movie
This was a pretty good movie and my 2nd favorite thriller of 2020 and one of my favorite movies of 2020. Camila Mendes's performances was outstanding, she gave a very compelling performance. The writing was familiar but still pretty well-written. This was a overall really enjoyable movie.
There were some decent ideas in here and Camila Mendes is a solid lead. However, this ultimately just felt like a Lifetime movie with a Netflix budget. Cheesy moments, expected tropes, and painfully obvious twists.
