Dark Water Reviews
An under rated horror picture. Good cast, solid acting. Worth a watch.
Dark Water is an exceptionally dull and lifeless American remake that failed to make any significant impact. It managed to build some suspense, but ultimately, the film led nowhere without any genuine fear factor. Grading: D-
This film should not be confused with a higher rated, newer film called Dark Waters. This is simply “Dark Water”. Do not be deceived as I was into watching this movie. How the director had the time to get actual actors to agree to this movie, without taking the time to form more than ten minutes of plot, is beyond me. At first, it seems promising… a low lit building, leaking pipes, and a single mom in distress. However, you will keep waiting for the story to start, feeling like you are getting creepy clues and surely more depth and connection will be coming. Then, before you know it, an hour and a half has gone by, a mom dies, and it’s the worst movie you’ve ever seen.
Feel like I just wasted an 90+ minutes watching this rubbish.
Entertaining movie. Interesting story and kept me guessing. The dynamics between the actors was intense at times and very real. Good flick when want be scared but not too much and connect to characters who are dealing with issues most of have to encounter.
In my opinion one of the greatest and one of my favorite ghost story movies how it got thumbs down so many times is beyond me. Do you people actually watch these movies?
Music is ok I guess but very boring and forgettable. Otherwise everything else is subpar save for passsable acting. Connelly probably is the best thing in this but even she is just ok. No one really has that much chemistry, the villian is super forgettable and feels like a generic girl from the well from Ring knock off, and everyone else is just kind there. The setting is ok enough but the way it's shot really isn't anything special and it's not really moody or that atmospheric. Above all else this really never gets scary or builds much tension. The culprit? A very unclear script that feels like stuff just happens once they move in. the opening 10 minutes or so really drags also with Reily showing the apartment to them. Were never really sure what the little girl wants, at first you think it's so she can find rest than I guess for a Mom. The dark brown water also isn't really scary at all but they film it like it's supposed to be scary. This feels like it's trying to be something like The Shining except it doesn't have powerhouse acting, a villian to match, or and atmosphere or really memorable scares/scenes. All the scenes in this are of dark water. At least there is really only one jumpscare but it's so predictable. The backstory of the her divorce, the kid being poscessed, the constant flooding of the upstairs apartment gets really repetitve and feels like it goes nowhere. It's a very muddled script. Unless your a super die hard Connelly fan most people should skip this.
Don't even bother watching this 🖕⚠️
I would argue this isnt even a horror film. Its a family drama with some horror elements. However its not clever enough to connect the "horror" to the personal drama that the charactors are going through. Made even more frustrating that there are clear paralels to be made here but its almost like the film couldnt be bothered with the task of tying all the threads together. Finally there are some really good actors in this movie but none of them are even close to the calaber we have come to expect from them, its always anoying seeing really talented people make very boring, not good work. Stick with the original, as this is an unfocused forgettable mess.
Jennifer Connelly is effective, the film is not.
For a low budget film I thought it was good. Decent story. Good acting.
Very creepy movie. Really good cast. But the original Japanese version is much better and much creepier.
While not living up to the J Horror classic it's still a good thriller with a great cast, sound design, Direction by Walter Salles (Foreign Land, Central Station) and score
Wonderful movie I hope they eventually decide to make a second one I would for sure watch it 😊 it has a touching ending and me as a child enjoyed this movie personally. Well put together, kept me thinking about what would happen but surprised me every time my family and I all loved this movie.
I enjoyed the film and thought it was more of a drama/thriller rather than horror, but it was definitely eerie throughout and the ending gets me every time.
Dark Water Overall Dark Water gets a 10/10 because this movie has a completely different feel and it is not a Horror film at all and more of a Drama Psychological Thriller mixed with Horror Elements plus Jennifer Connelly's performance in the movie makes it even better and she also brings the film to life with her stunning performance that can interest any audience.
It suffers from the basic cliches of a horror movie (mainly jump/fake scares) but Dark Water is redeemed enough by its legitimately effective atmosphere and a good central performance from Jennifer Connelly.
