Darkness Falls Reviews
Darkness Falls lacks scares and good tense moments, a poor script that insists on saying the phrase "Stay in the light" basically the entire film, could have more shine.
Darkness falls has a good premise and puts an interesting twist on the tooth fairy but it's quite slow and some things don't make sense.
Slow and suspenseful. Enjoyed the backstory and the acting.
2003's 'Darkness Falls' is a film built on clichés and genre tropes. SYNOPSIS: 'A vengeful spirit has taken the form of the Tooth Fairy to exact vengeance on the town that lynched her 150 years earlier. Her only opposition is the only child, now grown up, who has survived her before.' On its release, 'Darkness Falls', was probably ok but on a rewatch now it's just horror copy and paste. And it doesn't even do that very well. Tropes aplenty, shitty special effects, cheap scare tactics and a comically bad script all add up to a senseless cinematic waste of time. Not good! 4/10
Na época do seu lançamento eu considerava um filme bem assustador. Hoje, percebo muitas falhas no roteiro.
Rewatched it again for the nostalgia and it's still a great horror movie!!!!
A misfire tooth fairy horror.
Always liked watching this with my kids......its just a good simple ghost story.....love the retro feel they give the movie in a small town with old buildings and old cars
If you enjoy horror it was a good movie to watch (if you ignore the acting and are not too serious about the tooth fairy), but I would not watch it again.
Amazing 90's horror movie!
Whenever I heard of Darkness Falls I'm thinking that this movie's going to be awesome and since I've seen it, I was thinking that it was okay, for a horror film. I almost had low expectations on the film. I don't hate it as much as everyone did, I literally thought when I saw the cover I'm thinking that this is going to be an awesome horror flick. All right, let's get on with it. Over 150 years ago, Matilda Dixon was adored by all the children. She would give them a gold coin whenever they lost a tooth, earning her the name, the Tooth Fairy. One night, the fire broke out in her house leaving her face disfigured and severely sensitive to light. She has to wear her porcelain mask and she only leaves her house at night. But when two children didn't come home, the town's people blamed her and they hanged her in the light. Before her death, she placed a curse on the town and swore revenge. Kyle Walsh, who lost his last baby tooth, has witnessed his mother's murder by an evil spirit. Twelve years later, Kyle returns to his childhood home because Michael, the young brother of his romantic interest Caitlin is being stalked by the same spirit. Yeah, when I was experiencing it, it starts off quite well. I used to be afraid of the dark when I was a kid but not anymore. Now as I said already I don't hate the film but the only problem here is the running time where the movie finishes at 71 mins while the end credits is in 10 mins. Maybe over 70 mins is good enough. What I did get the gist is where in 1990 Kyle Walsh is a child and then twelve years later, he's an adult and the curse is still not dead and buried in 2002. However this movie is released in 2003. The movie itself is scary, that's what I like about it even the thrills in the third act. I would recommend this film to those who are horror fans if they haven't heard of it but for me I personally think this horror movie is okay.
While it has decent cinematography by future Oscar Winner Dan Laustsen (Nomad: The Warrior, The Lion Woman) and even though it's shockingly short it's more boring and confusing than scary
The fact that this movie was more than an hour long was embarrassing, I've seen better acting on pornhub, with a more compelling storyline as well. Cheesy plot, Tasteless acting, overall -1 stars
I love Caulfield which helps, but the ridiculous plot is fun, and the director did a good job selling the suspense.
One of my top 25 movies of all time!
I enjoyed this movie more when I was younger. Revisiting it today, there are some glaring flaws that stop this from being a straight up recommend. The movie doesn't have a strong lead and it shows. The third act has too many throw away characters that are there just to die, like the nurses and police officers. I think the movie is better than what the ratings say here on Rotten Tomatoes, but not by much. If you're stuck in quarantine with some time to kill it's worth a watch.
Genre fans seem to be somewhat more forgiving to it and it did make $47.5 million with a budget of $11 million budget so wasn't a flop at the box office. Overall, I actually enjoy this movie as far as PG-13 horror goes. The acting isn't atrocious but it isn't the greatest either and in my opinion the less than savory CG is made up for by the practical effects used in Matilda's unmasking.
Unoriginal copycat on slasher flicks in a form of a tooth fairy with pathetic territorial issues that paints as nonsensical. (C)
