Death Becomes Her Reviews
The 1992 movie "Death Becomes Her," starring Meryl Streep, Goldie Hawn, and Bruce Willis, was released during the time when I was a child, so I never really saw this movie. However, I have seen the iconic poster my entire life, and for some reason, I never actually stepped into the realm of watching this film until now. I think that for todayās audience, this movie is a little aggressive towards female vanity, which is sad because it actually could have done a lot better in todayās context if our society werenāt so sensitive. That being said, for what the movie did and what it brought to the cinematic screen during that time, the CGI was bad, but for that era and what we had to work with back then, they did a decent job. Now, yes, the movie is about a woman who wants to stay young forever, and another woman doing the same, with both of them chasing after a man whoās not even worth pursuing. They made Bruce Willis look very unattractive and unappealing to the general audience, yet these two beautiful womenāone of them a mega movie starāare all chasing after him, wanting to stay young forever, to the point of death, while still pursuing this man. Now, itās very corny and very cheesy. Itās not anything that youāre going to jump up and down for, or even remotely say to yourself, "Let me revisit this often," because I donāt think it has aged well in todayās society. It is a classic and is often bragged about, but I think that ultimately, as I stated earlier, our world has become too sensitive on so many topics that certain movies just take a backseat and are not revisited. Now, I didnāt hate the movie; I thought it was actually enjoyable enough to watch and creative for its timeframe. Would I revisit it? Probably not. If I did revisit it, it would be several years from now; itās not going to be something that I just jump up and go try to watch again.
if you watched the substance, this is an amazing next watch for gen z. if you're reading this after substance watch it right now and say I'm wrong. nothing is a new concept at heart but different approaches are captivating in different ways.
This is my absolute all-time favorite movie. The special effects are fantastic for a film of its era, not to mention great acting across the board. Meryl Streep is fantastic as the aging actress grasping at youth, and Goldie Hawn does not disappoint as the bitter, revenge-stricken friend. Bruce Willis gives what I consider an Oscar-nominating performance as the bumbling Ernest. His ability to transform himself from a built action star to this character shows he has some serious chops. Isabella Rossellini oozes sexiness and the movie always leaves me wanting to seek out and take the potion myself.
Such a fun movie! Itās campy. Loved the story and the acting, and the outfits were 10/10 šš¼ I especially loved the potion scenes, and the very comedic (de)evolution of Meryl Streepās character. Goldie Hawn had some pretty brilliant campy moments too. Would recommend āļø
Very comical i love it! Women empowerment š
My wife has been insisting we watch this movie together (we just saw the new musical), and the musical was, in my opinion, far better than the movie. I feel like DBH might have been better at the time it was released, but now itās just⦠not so good. The special effects were great (especially for their day), but thatās all I can really say I was impressed with. Just my opinion.
31 DAYS OF HORROR FLICKS ššš 12 This one deserves all the praise it can get. Zemeckis himself refers to this as an unofficial āTales from the Cryptā movie, which perfectly fits. Macabre, bizarre, hilarious, thoroughly satisfying.
This horror/comedy is entertaining, but it's not as funny as it should be.
I really like all 3 main actors, but I did not like this movie š but now I've seen it.
A brilliant film that feels perfectly in tune with todayās conspiracy-driven culture. It masterfully weaves together elements of comedy, thriller, and action, taking audiences on a wild and unpredictable ride. With its gripping plot, the film strikes a perfect balance between entertainment and thought-provoking storytelling, making it both timely and highly engaging.
Death becomes her was a great movie that I canāt wait to see become a Broadway musical.
Death Becomes Her is darkly comedic, blending satire, fantasy, and elements of horror with biting humor. Starring Meryl Streep, Goldie Hawn, and Bruce Willis, the film follows two rival women who, after taking a potion for eternal youth, grapple with the unintended consequences of immortality. Its witty dialogue and exaggerated performances highlight the absurdity of vanity and obsession with beauty, creating a clever commentary on Hollywood's unrealistic beauty standards. While the special effects were groundbreaking for its time, the filmās mix of camp and satire gave it a cult status, making it uniquely entertaining, and entirely queer-coded for a new generation to love.
fun, crazy and catchy! this movie was a great watch and definitely a must. i have to admit iām here after the ātasteā music video, but iām so glad i made it up to here, because it was truly a fun ride. appealing characters, a dynamic story and two rivals in the main light, all competing to get a fucking man thatās not even that attractive. like what could wrong right??! so much fun and such great acting and storytelling that made the experience even more enjoyable
This movieās terrible
Whom ever rates this movie less than 100% certified fresh is a blind idiot⦠Absolutely perfect, quotable, instant classic en camp style, and legitimately a work of cinematic art. Also, the performances by Meryl Streep and Goldie Hawn deserve Oscarsā¦and Iām not over exaggerating hereā¦. Open your eyes, this one is in my top 5 favorite movies of all time.
The homophobia that is a 55% rotten š score is Mind boggling. To not understand camp, is to not understand comedy itself. This is one of the all time greats, and dare I say, itās some of Meryl and Goldieās best work. If u get it u Get it, and if you donāt⦠youāll be on my prayer list till the day that I die. This whole website should be shut down just for this score⦠š¤
Campy, funny and just a great laugh!
One of the most iconic movies ever. Underrated by the uncultured!
Itās funny and campy and I Love it
Death Becomes Her became a cult classic. It never received very well. Main criticism was characters were too shallow. Well they have to be shallow anyway. There are really good lines in the movie.
