Grindhouse Presents: Death Proof Reviews
One of my all-time faves. Could re-watch any day of the week; and regularly listen to the soundtrack by itself. An ideal cast and perfect dialogue and a great women's anthem. Unf.
By far this is Quentin Tarantino's worst film.
I love Quentin Tarantino's cameo in Death Proof as Warren. The camera work and artsy editing create a mesmerizing viewing experience. Quentin personally scratched the film to give it that dated look. I love it! Admittedly, this is the worst film that Quentin Tarantino has ever made. I don't disagree with that statement, however, I do strongly state that just because this is his worst film, doesn't make it a bad film. I think it's rather good actually, in fact, I think Quentin created exactly what he intended to. This is very much the 1980s slasher film vibe. Those are not great films, at best, they are good movies. Entertaining to watch, with annoying characters and their lengthy dialog, which serves to make the audience look forward to their potential demise. The dialog is great, by the way, as it was written by the master. The soundtrack is nice too. Kurt Russell is terrific as Stunt Man Mike. He has the awesome car and the bad boy scar. A perfect 1980s style movie villain. I love when he breaks the 4th wall at the 45 minute mark. Rose McGowan was magnificent in her role as Pam. I will say, I enjoy the first group more than the second. I find the story of the original group to be a little more entertaining and the acting is a bit better. That segment of the film also doesn't have so much of the scratched up look. I still like the second group, and the film as a whole, is a good one. The ending is appropriately over-the-top. I highly recommend this picture. 85/100
IT'S A HIT!!! Death proof is that girl and i love every second
Piss poor, written by a teenager. Crap film that you wish you hadn't wasted your time on.
This is a really COOL film, it oozes coolness, and Stuntman Mike is IMO an iconic villain or at least very close to it. It’s Tarantino’s take on the slasher film genre, so if you like slashers, and especially if you like slashers AND Tarantino, you are gonna enjoy this movie. Is it Tarantino’s best film? No, but not because of its general quality, this is a GREAT film — unlike The Hateful Eight, for example — but he has other great films that are at the same time much more unique/special than this one is. It’s nowhere near being as unique/special as Pulp Fiction or Inglorious Basterds, or Django Unchained, or Kill Bill…but this is a great film. I really hope this one eventually gets a 4k release too.
It's definitely not Tarantino's best and is much simpler and more dumbed down than his best works. But 'Death Proof' is honestly still a lot of fun and has a great ending.
I’ve watched the film many times and continue to be delighted by its shameless sexuality in the first act that evolves into a revenge scene that’s both exciting and satisfying. It might not be for everyone, but I love it.
Got it! Here’s a more lightly edited version of your review: A true masterpiece! A movie with different levels and multi-dimensional themes, filled with subtle underlying hints. The film is without agenda yet provides a well-crafted story about two different groups of women: one drowned in alcohol and marijuana, and the other immersed in the adventures of autos and gears. One group is a victim of a predatory man, while the other takes revenge on this killer, even when a sheriff in Texas says he'd rather watch NASCAR than follow this man for nothing! It’s about what true feminism could be—empowering women based on skill and self-defense, not just sitting and crying about how they are mistreated! They are not butterflies! Tarantino wants to tell us, with the inappropriate cuts and old-style movie techniques, that it is a movie—relax and enjoy it—while also giving us a glimpse of how sexy reality could be.
Tarantino fails again to make a film that I enjoy. I liked the idea of a Grindhouse movie but when I saw this deliberately bad movie I lost a little of my life. It was bad. They tried hard to make it bad and that is why some people will like it but it is why I hated it. There are bad films out there that are good and they are made with much less fuss. The special effects took over in one place to ruin the b-movie feel. The dialogue was painfully uninteresting and the finale was so terrible. ‘So bad it’s good’ turns out to be nothing but bad trying too hard to be good. Pretentious filmmaking that has not aged well. Stick to real Grindhouse b-movies, not these fake ones. If you can look past the fakeness this is mildly entertaining.
Una película que solo podría haber salido del imaginario del P*to Quentin Tarantino. Las mejores secuencias en autos que he visto en los 2000's.
This one is horrendously underrated! Badass Kurt Russell, fast 70s cars, blood and hot chicks. A MUST SEE!
The first HOUR of the movie is spent on side characters only for them to die in 5 seconds. Stuff seems to happen at random. There is no progression, tension, or arc in this movie. Also, the amount of time that is devoted to girls talking about guys is unbelievable. This movie is 1:20 minutes of boring conversations that don't impact the plot and 7 minutes of indulgent violence. That being said, the no-CGI action scenes were cool, so it gets a 1.5
Se debería de considerar un clásico del cine, un gran guion por parte de Quentin Tarantino que refleja sus pensamientos perfectamente en la película.
Dark but in a goofy way. Weirdly unique
Tarantino doing what he does best, action with only dialogue to reach the grand finale of pure adrenaline.
Get ready for a slaughter-fest on the streets, with no time to pump the brakes! Stuntman Mike is a serial killer known for causing traffic accidents to kill his victims, but he unfortunately gets more then he bargains for when he targets three stuntwomen who are not about to be taken down so easily. An intense thrill-seeker from start to finish, this film makes it clear that driving can be both dangerous, but so delightfully deranged!
Scary but I enjoyed this movie. Fun. Gruesome. Very good.
Hated this when Grindhouse was released and just re-watched it to see if my opinion changed over 15 years later: Nope. Still hate it. It's the worst of Tarantino's impulses distilled into nearly TWO hours of stilted "cool" dialogue and endless references to better movies. It's all an excuse to set up a cool stunt with Zoe Bell (who chews with her mouth open in a diner scene). Kurt Russell and the cool stolen music are the ONLY reasons anyone would want to watch this string of terrible "clever" monologues. He somehow made Rosario Dawson awful in it and I LOVE her.
