Deep Water Reviews
Really enjoyed it, a lot like Unfaithful from years ago. Ben Affleck pretty much plays himself married to Jennifer Lopez, Anna DE Armas is fantastic as a binge drinking promiscuous wife. The plot and pace really kick in towards the end with a climatic finale that leaves you on the edge of your seat with a 'will he? won't he' theme which is typical of a Patricia Highsmith novel/story. Loved it, shame it's got a very low rating.
Doesn't deserve such a low rating.
The cinematography was quite nice, but it might also be largely because of Ana de Armas. It is probably a bit shallow of me, but I really cannot deny that she’s the main reason I was able to keep my eyes on the screen. So beautiful, aesthetically pleasing, and alluring with such a compelling presence. Oh, to be blessed with the ability to command attention with your mere expressions! However, we also cannot deny that this film has diverted quite a bit from the book. Obviously, the modernisation of it was well-appreciated from my end, but it certainly left me perplexed with a flurry of questions. As in, “Is this really normal?”and, “What are their motivations? Why are they the way that they are?”The different ending was a welcome change for me though! But yes, a lot of details were also omitted, which made it feel like it was just a weird collection of beautifully-shot scenes sprinkled with some random ones for transition rather than an actual film. Did they do that because it’s supposed to be a thriller/mystery? Because then someone should tell the writers that suspense in film isn’t as simple as cutting out certain information and leaving it at that. You do eventually have to resolve those questions brought upon by suspense. For a thriller/mystery, it surely did not try to maintain either of those. Even the thrill of the sexual tensions were so short-lived—almost like a budding arousal that never reaches a climax. Like a person leading someone on, all that jazz. Meanwhile, the way they revealed the mystery of it all was also not too… remarkable? Haha. Honestly, all the characters were seriously unlikeable; even Ana de Armas’, probably due to the lack of personality. Absolutely love the relationship between Vic and Trix though; at least they built that one okay. Perhaps the film would have done better as a short series where there’s more room for world building? I would say, go ahead and give it a watch. Still a nice movie to pass the time especially if you’re doing stuff like chores or stationary hobbies; like, say, ironing, knitting, dishwashing, and even exercising. Just don’t expect too much of it and enjoy the show!
Didn't really enjoy anything about this film. After the first 20 minutes, I was convinced this was a direct rip off of Eyes Wide Shut. As the film went on, it was clear that it had a different story, but much less interesting. The set up dragged on way too long and the protagonist is very dry. I would not waste 2 hours of life watching this garbage.
Not as Idiotic as "Gone Girl"... but close, the thing is, this movie was doing kinda OK until the very end, although there were obvious problems such as lack of a character arc for the Ben Affleck's character, lack of activity by the police, etc. (And FYI I don't care what the book says, we are rating the movie, different media and execution). The ending is terrible, it feels like the director and writers quit and the producers decided to leave it as it was instead of working on a good ending. The only good thing about this movie is, as always, ANA de Armas, she breathes interest and fun into Every movie she is in!! she is a breath of fresh air!! but not even her can save the incompetence of the writers.
Over the top but not in a good way.
Very not bens movie at had no twist and no real story at all would not watch again glad I did not pay for this would ask for money back bad bad bad bad rate -5
Stupid, slow waste of time movie.
Is movie was just soooooooo…….. a waist of my time 🙄I had so many questions
Adrian Lyne has a been a favorite Director of mine for years. His work is phenomenal and is most underrated. I truly believe only intelligent people will understand his work. The folks commenting otherwise is complete nonsense.
Best of its type since Unfaithful with Diane Lane
Why on earth did he keep snails?
acting was good, a little too much sex i mean we get the point.
What a silly and shallow movie
A toxic yet mutually cathartic relationship cultivated by two biblical sinners. I like the movie ending version in lieu of that of the novel. The dynamic goes on with devotions and sacrifices, and human sacrifices.
I won't lie this movie was hot and good a toxic relationship ask...But like its hots lol i recommend watching it
Pathetic, had some many times to be a thriller but it never did. Could have been written by a high schooler. Afglevk can’t find a decent script.
I like Ben Afflec and Ana De Armas. I was disappointed in this movie. It at times felt like a cringy soft core porn murder mystery that you used to see on Cinemax at like 3am. If the point was that a cheating wife who makes her husband jealous enough to murder her lovers should stay with her murderer husband because he's a good dad, well that's sort of messed up.
Ana de Armas plays a playful wife. How can it not pass the time? In the age of ethical non-monogamy, not as shocking as this would have been say a decade or twenty years ago. Ben Affleck's character is brooding and a ticking timebomb. But it's all about Ana de Armas. I'm so biased.
Had unnecessary sexual tension scenes and most of the time the plot was lost.
