Dior and I Reviews
I didn't expect to end up teary eyed. Even for someone who doesn't care much for high fashion, It was very inspiring seeing the faces of people working tirelessly, their passion and hard work. Oh my, the massive weight placed on the man at the top, to wear the shoes of the legend while also maintaining his own authenticity whilst ignoring the stereotype, wow! Christian would be so proud. I now have a great respect for brands and businesses in general where people pour out heart and vulnerability into their work. In some way it reminds me of the film boiling point.
Seemingly contrived at points but ultimately satisfying documentary following an haute couture season
It's not just a behind-the-scenes look at the creation of the first Haute Couture collection of Raf Simons as an art director for Christian Dior. It is also a historical transitional moment from the 15-year reign of John Galliano, with his theatrical glamor to the Belgian designer with a minimalist reputation. Critics of fashion, celebrities, fans of the house - everyone couldn't wait to find out whether the vision and the decision of the LVMH president Bernard Arnault were correct. In this tense moment, Raf Simons with the best masters of haute couture tailoring art creates a new period in the fashion world. Highly recommended for watching. Fashion Respublica
What goes into the development of a high fashion collection at a world famous design house? This documentary shows you. In 2011, Christian Dior fired John Galliano as its creative director, and replaced him with Raf Simons, a Dutch-speaking Belgian known for his minimalism. This documentary takes the viewer inside the development of Simons's first haute couture collection for Dior, and their first show in Paris to display the collection to the world. Quite an eye-opening and exciting exposition of the creative process in the fashion industry. Loved this documentary, and loved the dresses in Simons's first haute couture collection.
Fascinating behind the scenes look at a couturier creating their first collection. Quickly and effectively establishes the key figures and follows the creative process in an engaging and artful way.
It's pretty obvious that the filmmaker was only given limited access to the company workings, and they tries his best to weave it into something more interesting than a corporate overview. The industry observations are at least somewhat interesting, even as major issues plaguing fashion today are glossed over in favor of a beautiful show. How appropriate.
Raf Simons, formerly a menswear designer, has six weeks to create an haute couture collection for the renowned house of Dior. This is no mere confection like so many other fashion flicks. There is fantasy and beauty, yes, this is artful. But it's suspenseful! There's tension between the new designer and the coutouriers as they craft his dream visions within the Dior structure.
Interesting multilingual fashion documentary about Raf Simons taking over designing duties at Dior. Dior himself is a ghostly presence as Simons finds his fabrics in art galleries and his inspiration in the early New Look.
I love a good fashion documentary as much as the next person, but this was a bit flat. It was interesting, but not engrossing. A bit of fun, but not much depth. I wasn't sure what the director wanted me to feel about Raf Simons...
This film was really interesting since I'm not a fashion fundi and I have no idea what goes into making haute couture. It flowed beautifully, gave an incredible insight into the industry and it was emotional. I enjoyed the aspect of a foreigner coming in to lead a group of people who were culturally different, and had a very distinct sub culture within their house too. His approach was elegant and firm and I learnt a lot about leadership from him. I enjoyed it thoroughly.
Interesting look into a fashion powerhouse, and the management style used for an immense project and team
A celebration of craftsmanship and teamwork. Truly enjoyed seeing the 'behind the scenes' of creating a couture collection. Even my dad enjoyed watching this and appreciated the hard work and humble nature of Raf Simons.
Maybe because I'm a fashion fan, I found it very cute. The people and the process are so real, I always love to see some "real" aspect of dreamy fashion world, it shows us that glamorous thing came from collective humble efforts. Even I always find something to hate in Raf's Dior couture I think my likeness of it will increase, isn't that what this film for?
I love a good documentary and this is a great documentary - even for someone like me with no real interest in fashion/couture!
sleeper hit. didnt know what to expect but a lovely, amazingly calm glimpse into a world of perfectionism and creative process. only neg being main dior participants/ employees didnt get credit and yet people like sharon stone et al were credited. wtf? i want to work for raf (: . the floral villa prob exhausted the entire worlds supply of claritin but wow - 1000% cool.
Interesting insight into the world of haute couture fashion shows and the amount of work and money that goes into them. A bit more focus on the product and not just the process would have been nice.
