Dog Reviews

I saw ads for this but didn't think much of it. My aunt watched it on a long flight and immediately recommended it to me. Which I am so thankful for. It's such a great movie.

Gosh... what a fantastic movie. Super dramatic performance from Channing Tatum, but the real star of the movie was 'Lulu' the dog. Sure to make you smile and laugh, and give you a big lump in your throat. Highly recommended for all dog-lovers and non-dog lovers alike.

I liked how the relation between the dog and Jackson Briggs evolved over time. I think Channing plays well and of course I like the car...

The story is kinda light and there's not a lot of emotion, the dog didn't really shine all that much either... not sure what the point was.

I truly love films about dogs

What a moving story. Dog is more of a drama then a comedy but still a very good film. I enjoy this movie a lot and thought it was very touching how the relationship with our star and the dog grows throughout the movie's run time. There are some funny moments sprinkled throughout but this one will pull at your heart strings more. I am a sucker of road trip/animal movies and this one features both. Channing Tatum showcases his serious acting chops here and was perfectly casted for the role. I also had this movie hits all the right notes at a good pace and also sticks the landing at the end. Dog was a very enjoyable film that tackles serious topics while also being a movie for the whole family. Dog gets a solid 4 stars out of 5 from me.

Corny but fun and touching. Personally I wouldn't really call it a comedy. More like a combination comedy/feel good far fetched drama.

Really not comparable to so many very impressive and very captivating movies about dogs and especially war dogs. This one here simply drags along a line which is way too patriotic and absurdly nationalistic military wise, pulling way too far away from the relationship story. It tries to be funny, but never really gets it right with a ridiculous script and dumb lines.

The story had everything to be interesting, but it gets lost and takes a while to reach a good climax.

After all we demand dogs do for us, the least we can do is show them some compassion, patience and understanding. A flourishing partnership in which both parties can help each other heal.

A serious comedy. Channing Tatum is a discharged Army Ranger recovering from a brain injury, he wants to do a security guard course but needs clearance from his former C. O. Unsure that Tatum is fit the officer says he'll sign off on it if Tatum delivers a temperamental Combat Dog, Lulu, to her handlers funeral in Arizona. A road movie ensues with high jinks from Lulu messing up Tatum's encounter with tantric yoga practitioners, meeting up with an off the grid hippie couple and causing havoc in a hotel. There are plenty of laughs but also a very serious side to the film. PTSD, alcoholism, drug abuse and family break up among injured war veterans are explored. As is the monstering/othering of the enemy and the effect that can have on the dogs outside of a military setting, An entertaining film which you won't forget in a hurry.

A fun roadtrip companion comedy/drama featuring a great soundtrack and some heartwarming moments. Takes a while for the story to get off the ground, and sometimes suffers from overall structure and scene execution. If you are looking for a simple comedy/drama, with an amazing dog (Lulu), this is what you'll get. There is a deeper element of the film of overcoming the anguish of post traumatic stress from war from both human and animal alike, which is an powerful theme. Acting and dialogue leave something to be desired and are subpar but we are rewarded with a few very touching scenes (especially at the end) and great themes and soundtrack. A tale of a military service dog losing his handler and one of his handlers best friends transporting her across the country to his funeral, an aggressive dog and a sad desperate soldier desperate to get back into service. I think it's fair to say if you're a dog lover you'll love this. The dog Lulu is so well trained it makes it very believable and submersive through its positive and negative points in the movie. I thought Channing Tatum was also great through the ups and downs with him suffering from what I think is PTSD and as someone who has issues with seizures and the crawling around in their own sweat dazed and confused there one scene specifically where it appears like Tatum is having a seizure and Lulu comforting him and he just kicked me right in the feels and I had to dig my nails into my thumb to stop the tears.. I laughed and pretty much cried And would highly recommend it to everyone. Close to 5 star.

When I stumbled across Dog and noticed that it said it was a comedy, I thought this would be a win. I pictured the classic and one of my all-time favorites Turner and Hootch. Did this movie have comedic moments yes, would I call it a comedy no, however what I will call it is a wonderful surprise. Rather than getting the man hates dog, dog hates man plot line, I was giving a movie where two living creatures learn to lean on each other and help one another heal. Channing's performance was wonderful shedding light on the struggles that our ex-military face, and the scars their service leaves behind for not only man but beast. It was a heartwarming movie and a joy to watch from beginning to end.
