Though mainly drawn to Eddie Murphy’s proclaimed comeback, which deservingly is so in rejuvenated form alongside a nice cast, this biographical piece unburies a worthily prolific figure who attributed blaxploitation in a thoughtful, dedicated craft that was perceptually replicated albeit less unheard of. A Classic that puts Murphy back in talks as one of Hollywood's Powerhouses. It's faithful to the source and gives you guaranteed laughs with it's powerful cast. Definitely Recommended!

A very funny and unique biopic about the bizarre and almost improvisational success of one of the most influential figures of the Blaxploitation era. It's really entertaining to watch this all unfolds and see how just a group of amateurs decide they want to make a movie, and going through each step as they transition from stand-up comedy to acquiring the proper crew and methods to make a movie. Eddie Murphy is very charming and energetic in the role, and you really buy that he's doing it cause he loves it and everyone around him loves it for the sincerity, regardless of the final quality. It's a little slow in the beginning, but once it picks up, it keeps that stride and doesn't let up.

Dolemite Is My Name - 8/10. I love underdog stories. They always get to me. Dolemite is one such film which, though is a slow buildup, pays off when it approaches the goal it sets off to achieve: creating a character who literally defeats all odds and naysayers. Eddie Murphy is one of the greatest and one of the most well known comics of our time. He was once a box office giant, but in recent years he has kind of disappeared and taken a break from film. It's awesome to see him back in action, doing an R rated comedy and just being as expressive and energetic as he was back in his hey day. There are moments in the movie where you can tell it's an older Eddie, but you forget about it while watching him perform his character with a lot of heart and soul. Its almost fitting that he's playing a character like this, and it seems he understands this and uses it to his advantage. The set pieces are awesome, we're transported back to the 70s and you feel like you're in that time. The ensemble cast is awesome, with a special mention going to Wesley Snipes, who plays the arrogant director hilariously. Dolemite really reminds me of another underdog story film, The Disaster Artist. Unlike that film's subject, Eddie's character of Rudy does showcase some talent, so you kind of feel a little more for his character when he gets rejected countless times. A great watch, little more dramatic than funny, but a solid movie overall. Watch it on Netflix once it releases!

The movie that saved Eddie's career and really shows how he can actually act. This, combined with the amazing and colourful cinematography and direction, plus the whole script of a underdog story, makes for a pretty inspiring, very funny, and entertaining movie.

Vulgar, crude and more. What would you expect from Dolomite? A great movie of a bygone time of movie lore. The man never took no as an answer and it paved the way for his dream.

You will remember his name after this movie! Rudy Ray Moore straps on his pimp clothes and begins to create the film called Dolemite, with he himself playing the character in its ridiculous plot line. With Eddie Murphy playing the eccentricities of both the character and the man, he plays the legendary laughing-stock with a lot of personality to back up the zaniness of the film!

Eddie Murphy can usually be counted on for a good time and this movie is just that. A good time. Granted, it's not Beverly Hills Cop or Mr. Church, but Rudy Ray Moore is a fun character brought to life by an absolute talent. And the supporting cast are all wonderful as well. This is a good movie that tells an interesting story, albeit predictable, with fun characters. My only complaint was the story felt rushed in some places. I would have liked to have seen more of Rudy developing his comedy and the duo with Rudy and Lady Reed. And I would have liked to have seen the movie crew's dedication develop (show, don't tell). I dig the music in the film. 50 years on and I'm still listening to funk. All and all this movie was a good time; definitely worth watching.

One of Eddie Murphys most underrated performances and movies. He definitely should have won the Oscar that year.

Eddie Murphy, I've missed you. What a masterpiece. I laughed, cried, giggled. Just loved every second of this film. I so deeply identified with the main Dolomite and his battle to make his life something. Thank you for this uplifting, funny, touching work of art.

Never heard of the name dolimate before, just watching it because a fan of eddie murphy, but damn, i really enjoy the movie and almost burst a tears, i rarely wrote a review about a movie, but this one deserve it

Dolemite is My Name combines a stellar, amazingly talented cast with the unique directorial talents of one of Memphis' favorite adopted sons, Craig Brewer. Eddie Murphy transcends in the lead role and the chemistry among the cast is as enjoyable as it is undeniable. It's a feel good movie with soul. I would absolutely watch this again.

It took me a minute to get used to Eddie Murphy as Rudy Ray Moore after watching a bunch of his films over the last couple of days and being absolutely fascinated by this madman. But "Dolemite Is My Name" isn't just the retelling of an interesting story and the recreation of some iconic moments. This film is so joyous and heartfelt, funny and moving, over the top and sincere. It really captures the feeling of Moore's films, and I immediately want to check out more of his work and re-watch his movies I've already seen, respectively. Good stuff! Wesley Snipes is absolutely amazing!
