Donald Cried Reviews
The star, Donald makes it worth seeing alone. Slow to start but then picks up. If you like lovable screw ups, this is the movie for you.
Dry, awkward and a bit unusual...Donald Cried is a little slice of indie perfection with an oddly charming cast of characters and an honestly deep affecting story.
A very enjoyable and extremely uncomfortable film. Jesse Wakeman and ESPECIALLY Kris Avedisian (aka, writer/director/Donald) absolutely knock it out of the park. The new New England gem.
Perhaps not a movie for everyone... However, Avedisian performance is top notch. Enjoyed the writingand performances very much. Wakeman was great too. I really really enjoyed this movie. It's for sure a sleeper that everyone SHOULD watch.
Absolutely haven't laughed this hard and felt so good since Something About Mary! Kris Avedsian & Jesse Wakeman were absolutely the best together. Felt everything from happy to sad, pissed to relieved. Finally...content... Critics who don't get it....well they must be the Donald in their group. Brilliant!
Hilarious! A perfect tribute to the Donald's in this world reminding us to be kind to each other despite our shortcomings!
BACK TO THE PAST Squirm. Poor Peter. Years after successfully escaping his small-town for the big city, the dapper financier is forced to return to collect his grandmother's ashes. This leads to a very uncomfortable reunion. Peter has obviously moved on, literally and figuratively, but not his old neighbour pal Donald. Nope. Donald is still the same old high school hoser, super keen to rekindle the good old days. It's a classic premise, that works well on a cringe, comedic level, as Peter, the desperate, reluctant hostage tries valiantly to escape the eager clutches of the oblivious Donald, who seems to be dealing with some disturbing baggage. "Donald Cries" twists that old formula just enough to explore several deeper issues, and the film grows fuller as the characters reveal themselves. Writer, director, star Kris Avedisian is quite the talent, and his take on the wide-eyed, gung-ho man-child Donald is a character for the ages. - hipCRANK
Donald Cried employs that darkly comedic, funny but almost unwatchable sensibility that is slowly becoming... the dominant vocabulary of modern funniness -- but its sharp realism makes it a unique chunk of low-budget gold.
It's a dark comedy that lacks the comedic chops, but has the ability to entertain thanks to the willpower of writer, director and actor Kris Avedisian. He and his co-star Jesse Wakeman have chemistry that carries a premise that doesn't make much sense. How can a guy from NYC have nobody that can wire him money after he lost his wallet? Overall, it's a neat indy with a tragic character who gone the way of a divergent path of his high school best friend. Final Score: 6.6/10
