Don't Tell Mom the Babysitter's Dead Reviews
A mostly forgettable movie about a relatively charming family unit. It really is too bad that it is hampered by odes to the original, a convoluted plot, and at least one actor who has been woefully miscast. Please, no more. The dishes are done, man

Babysitter, despite its winning cast, is not as nervy as it thinks it is, squandering its central idea and leaving us with a remake that is pleasant if underachieving.

It won’t take the place of the original any time soon, but I was never bored.

Don't Tell Mom the Babysitter's Dead is comatose with a lack of imagination. This unnecessary remake of the 1991 film is in many ways worse than the original film because the remake adds terrible racial jokes and more moronic scenarios.

June Squibb is just wonderful in this movie.

Don’t Tell Mom The Babysitter’s Dead moves at the pace of a good sitcom.

This "modern re-imagining" of Don't Tell Mom represents everything that makes people skeptical and cynical towards remakes. Everything interesting about it is stolen from a better movie while its new ideas are devoid of creativity or entertainment.

Surprisingly authentic and fun for remake material, which is naturally formulaic. It’s the focus on character work that lets this one sing, and it should make a star out of Jones, who, like her character, manages to hold it all together.

I wasn’t permitted to screen “Don’t Tell Mom the Babysitter’s Dead” for review this week, and now I understand why.

By the time the opening credits roll, nearly 20 minutes into the movie and over what vaguely resembles a Psycho homage, the whole project appears to have outstripped the original in pure misguidedness.

It comes together like a jigsaw puzzle whose pieces aren’t fully pressed into place: a flimsy portrait of teen comedy and coming-of-age that won’t stand the test of time.

Don't Tell Mom the Babysitter's Dead is the kind of remake that wants to have its cake and eat it too, leaving the viewer terribly malnourished.

There’s just not enough about this new “Don’t Tell Mom the Babysitter’s Dead” to justify its existence.

Don’t tell anyone to watch this remake
| Original Score: 2/5 | Apr 12, 2024
It’s the focus on character and allowing the actors to shine that makes this one sing, and it should make a star out of Jones, who, like her character, manages to hold it all together.

Unlike the recent reboot of House Party, this reimagining of the 1991 original brings much more heart and is thankfully less hollow.

A fresh and funny remake

A model for how future reboots can be faithfully done.

Don’t tell helicopter parents, but the gleefully transgressive flicks that entertained a generation of latchkey wildlings are coming back in style.

Jones has many good moments, and “Don’t Tell Mom the Babysitter’s Dead” is a decent remake of a decent movie.
