Duck Season Reviews
esta para verla comiendo brownies
Reminded me of the solitude felt as a child when parents were away.... a solitude that was strange, mysterious, scary but also liberating... since often adults were just as distant from us [even if they were present] as life itself. The movie is quite slow so not everyone's cup of tea, it focuses more on the mundane and the little moments that might seem insignificant, but the mundane is truly what shapes our lives.
Two young teen boys stay home on a Sunday afternoon while one of their mother's is out. Their plan is to eat pizza, drink Coke and play Halo, but their plan is thwarted by a power outage. They're joined by a young woman who lives down the hall who needs to use their oven, and a pizza delivery guy who refuses to leave when they refuse to pay him. Lots of shit unfolds between the four as they spend the whole day in a small apartment together. This is an amazingly entertaining little film from Mexico
We've all been there - a lazy, Sunday with no plans and limitless possibilities. What do you do? Two 14-year-old boys take us on their apartment-centered adventure, populated by an overqualified pizza delivery man and a baking-challenged 16-year-old neighbor. It's funny, astute, captivating, revealing and almost perfect. A great debut from the director, Fernando Eimbcke.
EXCELENTE Y DE CALIDAD NACIONAL...FOR THOSE WHO DON'T SPEAK SPANISH: EXCELENT FROM NATIONAL (MEXICAN).
After all those great things I'd heard about this my expectations were high but..., Not a bad film but tries so hard to be simple that almost loses it, I hope Matando Cabos will be better
Usually when comes to the TOMATOMETER rating it's mostly correct. Unfortunately, the critics don't always get it right, that the case with Duck Season. Now watching a movie about two boring teenagers in a apartment with nothing to do is boring. While there might be some enjoyable moment, it feels like a movie of "filler". It not entirely bad, the actors do a good job on acting what the audience is thinking while watching this, bored. I admire it being in black & white since it's rare to see a movie in that format being made in modern time. To bad it's not a good movie as I felt the story didn't have enough material to keep me engage and made me consider turning it off. Unfortunately, the film few good moments are short and we the set throughout the whole movie. While the film 12 Angry Man also mostly took place in one set, it had enough material and a strong cast to keep us entertain unlike Duck Season. Duck Season, may I say, is a over-rated movie that makes me wonder if these critics were paid to write good reviews for this bore fest. Now while it nice to have a slow pace movie like this in this day and age, it suffers from lack of materials, any interesting actor, and is overall a poorly made movie.
A nice little movie that captures how endless some days can feel as a young teen. It's a sweet flick with a few good laughs.
La primer pelÃcula que vi en el Cine.. Y una de las pocas pelÃculas mexicanas que valen mucho la pena. Muy recomendable!!!
Interesting perception of 3 Mexican teens and 1 adult, of how to spen the day without power in one of the biggest city of the world.
two young boys, left alone in their mexico city apartment one sunday afternoon to again tackle their restless amusements, while two unintended guests join in on their quest. the black and white film works very well with this movie to stay focused on characters over scenery and particulars, and the starts and stops from scene to scene, room to room, contemplation to contemplation are excellent. if you are patient and pay attention early on, it is like a cog-wheel that takes on speed and humor and will leave you satisfied in the end. well, at least it did for me and was a very nice reminder of the youthful days of adolescence when wasted time transformed into revelation and fulfillment.
