Earthquake Bird Reviews

Jan 19, 2025

An odd watch. It wasn't bad but it wasn't good either. The credits rolled and I said to myself aloud, "Well what was the point of that?" Never a good sign when rating a movie. Too many questions and WAY too few answers.

What’s not to love about this movie. Alicia and Riley give stunning performances and the backdrop of Tokyo makes this film visually beautiful whilst the story captivates and draws you in. Perfect 👌

Felt new and different. Definity worth a watch. Just fell a little short of great. Needed a little more development.

The story is kind of all over the place, but the acting is really strong.

Vikander has been running from death...and now in Japan, she's caught between bad fortune and the fate of a new lover she can't seem to shake. Interesting elements blended well by Scott.

It was very poetic. I think it was enjoyable because it was difficult to grasp until he end. The aesthetics were well in sync.

Psychological drama with great performances.

An odd mystery/thriller. I've appreciated the work of Alicia Vikander (Ex Machina, The Danish Girl & Tomb Raider 2). She is a bit of an 'odd bird', or at least her roles would suggest that. It was reasonably well done.

(CAUTION, must watch this movie in the afternoon on an uncomfortable chair with a cup of coffee on the side), it's a slooooow moving, moody, depressed film. With a somber Alicia Vikander in need of Prozac and two Japanese keystone cops who never bothered to search the home of a prime suspect to Riley Keough disappearance/murder.

Alicia Vikander is amazing dramatic actress! Her talent is best revealed in such non-commercial movies ...

Beautiful cinematography and it really utilises music to make you really feel what the characters are thinking, without them needing to say anything. The plot is very compelling, and moves at a good pace, although could do with a little more "heart-racing" moments. You can easily see that this love triangle will end badly, as Lucy's relationship with Teiji is very intense and it's obvious that he's hurt women in the past with this same toxic behaviour.

Excelente musica y fotografia. Un thriller que mezcla lo psicologico con la intriga, terminando siendo muy humano (vistas 1)

This movie took me like 5 hours to watch . While nothing is bad, there certainly isn’t anything worthwhile or entertaining. I love Alicia though 2.4

Despite a compelling lead performance from Alicia Vikander, its ambitious and promising premise is wasted with a dull pace, and inconsistent script, and a story that tries too hard to be thrilling and unsettling but ends up uninspired and silly.

The I really liked the aesthetics of the movie, although I found it a bit slow.

It has a slow pace, with some good shots, but I was betting on a good psychological twist ending to really take it home. I didn't get it. There was another route that I think would have played out better, but what we got left more questions than it did answers.

ALERT: POTENTIAL SPOILERS. This is a stunning movie. Once again, the critics got it wrong. While indeed it's a psychological thriller, it's more about a young woman's quest for redemption, and when seen through that lens, it's deeply moving. She goes as far away as she can from her home and immerses herself in as foreign a culture as possible for a Westerner in the hope of dulling her guilt, shame and pain. Yet her journey could not be any more perilous after she meets a photographer who becomes her boyfriend and an American named Lily, who she comes to love. When it seems that once again she has inadvertently caused something horrific, her discovery of the truth ultimately releases her from a lifetime of self blame. How many of us carry the weight of how we may have inadvertently caused destruction, only to feel the blessed relief later when we learn we're not that powerful. No one is. Life is simply unfair...a maze of chance encounters and connections over which we have no power. To see Lucy witness that in a single moment is both beautiful and a testament to Vikander's incredible acting. The film is not boring at all. Just relax into its pace and its characters, and go where it leads.

There were all of the elements of a good psychological thriller tossed around with zero connectivity. The whole film was a vague half-cooked unseasoned chicken breast.

hmmm. considering the realistic tone of the movie, it‘s all a little bit too much, ain‘t it???
