Eddie the Eagle Reviews

Apr 26, 2025

I needed a feel-good movie, but this turned out to be just super hokey. The script isn't great, and there’s this really weird part where Hugh Jackman’s character awkwardly compares a ski jump to having sex, in a pretty cringey/I'm-embarrassed-for-you sort of scene. There are some heartwarming moments, though, and the ending, is hard to resist -- cheesy but still effective. But, the conflict at the end of the second act feels majorly fabricated and as it turns out... it is! It's very annoying how extremely loosely this movie is based on a true story. So many details are exaggerated or flat-out made up. Like, the real Eddie was far more experienced than the movie portrays, and Jackman’s character is entirely fictional. Which are basically the two bases for the whole story. This is feel-good manipulation at its worst.

A feel-good sports movie that actually earns its happy ending with showcasing just how hard the titular character had to work to achieve his dreams. It made the movie feel more grounded than most other sports underdog movies. Taron Edgerton and Hugh Jackman kill it as the leads and really tie this movie together. Not perfect, but hey, neither was the actual Eddie the Eagle, and that’s half of the charm with its sincerity.

I love this movie. Such a great inspirational sports movie that I can watch over and over. I lived where it was filmed so it has a special place in my heart. The cast is perfect and it flys by.

I loved how cute this movie is, but I hated that they didn't try to show my Home town, I'm from Calgary and I was upset that they place the Olympics in a area with lots of mountains and tree, Canada Olympic Park at the time of the 1988 Olympics didn't have trees and Calgary is 40 plus minutes from any mountains... the movie is still great but... could have been better for filming locations

It okay. not bAd. It have many gopod mometn but is very cliche like most many biopic, at time it feel like Dewey COX story parody film with cliche generic scene that never happen in real life, like parent not bleiving in he dream and discouragE him! But overall not bad film for me

This is my first review because I felt compelled to share how much I loved this movie. If you like true sports stories, especially Olympic stories you will thoroughly love this film! No cheese, just a great and inspiring film.

I watched this on DVD a few years ago and thoroughly enjoyed it. A fearlessly ambitious British competitor setting out to triumph in the winter Olympics against a wealth of native talent has huge underdog appeal, but the chosen sport in this case is such a terrifying spectacle that the film can not fail but to command the viewers attention. The DVD extras explaining how the film was made were also very interesting and informative. Highly recommended.

Everytime I watch this film, I feel uplifted and full of joy. As well as showing the true grit and determination of Mr Edwards, it also showed how normal, working class people are kept suppressed and stunned by the ruling elite class. Even now, in 2024, it's no different, if anything, much worse. It was truly amazing that Eddie the Eagle was able to climb above the baracades, and shine for a brief time. It may have been brief but everyone from my generation still remembers the headlines, and the news footage about him, from that time. It was such a momentous, and memorable thing. Eddie, and this film about him, has gone on to inspire millions of people, across the entire globe. Such a shame that he got robbed of his earnings after his success, which then prompted him to become qualified as a lawyer. What a truly amazing man he is! I'm so pleased this film was made, to keep inspiring future generations, who may themselves feel battered by a system that really doesn't care about them. Thank you, Eddie Edwards, for entertaining us, in so many ways, beating the establishment, if only briefly, and many congratulations for all the achievements you've had, in your most fascinating life. Thank you for being a hero, to so many.

A heartwarming movie, with great performances from Taron Egerton, and supporting actor Hugh Jackman. I wouldn't necessarily watch it a second time, but I did really enjoy it.

A movie with an amazing amount of continuity and history flaws. Especially the Calgary scenes, that show mountains in the background of Olympic Park...so very bad...not a frame shot on CDN location...

Beautiful feel good movie. One you could happily watch many times. It's a true story of determination and not letting anyone say to you 'it's not possible'.

"Eddie the Eagle" is so irresistibly feel-good, even when it gets a bit predictable, I was fully on board. A big part of why this movie works is Taron Egerton's impressive performance. I also enjoyed this movie from the sports angle and it made me truly feel the full weight of how dangerous ski jumping can be. The character of Eddie is so instantly lovable and easy to root for, that I got invested in the movie very quickly. Overall, the characters are likable, the sports sequences are exhilarating, and the movie has a winning and very sweet heart that left me with a great and positive feeling.

A comedy about real life athlete who became the first ski jumper in 60 years to represent Great Britain in that sport at 1988 Winter Olympic Games is incredibly well acted, inspiring and charming. For Michael Edwards ‘Eddie ‘(Taron Edgerton), clumsy, but determined alpine skier, the ultimate goal since childhood is to take part in the Olympic Games, which he succeeds, but as ski jumper. Despite always being the last, his naïve nature and invincible spirit eventually brought him many fans and recognition. I was very much drawn into this story, mainly thanks to top notch performance by Taron Edgerton. Having read about Eddie, I only regret that the movie didn't focus a bit more on 1988 Winter OI, which made him famous.

Eddie the Eagle 2016 film Review I really liked how Eddie the Eagle was done to look like 1970’s and 1980’s film. It is an inspiring story how a person who faced so much rejection from family and others could tell him he could not do it. Even with all his failures he stayed devoted till he was able to accomplish his goals. It was great seeing this kid who was an underdog and had been doing it for so little amount of years is able to reach such a high audience in the media. I liked the way the skiing was done in this film. I like the music score in this film having a distinct 1970’s-1980’s sound to the film. It is such a great music score by Matthew Margeson. It feels like the period. This film is able to show the dangers of skiing.

Excellent performance by Taron Egerton as he plays the event of Eddie Edwards. he really made the event of Michael Edwards one in a million. I would say the movie brings out his fame ( Michael Edwards ). This movie is definetely worth while watching. Outstanding scenes in the movie showing historical events which is what was one of the best things about it.
