Eden Reviews
It's a unique examination of an artist, one who experiences a brief moment of relevancy before quickly fading into obscurity, which is much sadder than being a total failure.
For fans of the history of disco ONLY. Make that the French point-of-view of the history of Disco. Movie is looong. Protagonist is uninteresting and unsympathetic (unless you like misogynists). Otherwise it wasn't bad.
Thoughtful. Follow your dreams is not always the best for you.
Pretty poor, but to be honest I think it was the music I mainly had a problem with. I can't get excited about the bland house music they used to play in 95% of the clubs I used to go to in my 20s. Dull dull dull.
Let me start with the positives: some good 90's tunes and an accurate description of club nightlife. Not too many films have achieved that. It definitely meanders and is far too long, but i wasn't bored. However,it is essentially the tale of a DJ who never hits the true heights, and neglects friends, lovers and family. And then it ends.
This drifting look at the young adult life of a Parisian garage dj aims at trying to capture the fleeting nature of club life and the hardship of making it on the music scene. Kudos goes to trying to add realism in the screenplay but the lack of narrative depth, artistic-shaping and dramatic edge leaves you wanting a bit more to take away with.

'Eden' chronicles the electronic music origins and does so in a way that few who aren't fans of that genre will be able to connect. If this is your kinda thing it's a must-see, however if you're not into it, it's probably best to stay away. The performances are fine, but it's a bit of a slog and repetitive with all the dance montages that turn essentially into music videos. Mia Hansen-Løve directed and co-wrote this venture which is an ambitious French-American feature but not necessary viewing. Final Score: 6.1/10
Its characters may be less than compelling but Eden offers a surprisingly mature message about the cost of following your dream. Grade: B+
If you like to watch movies with a slow plot and a narratives without any direction, this is the movie for you, because it is nothing more than a annoying movie with flat characters which aren't explored enough to give the spectator the information that it needs to know them.

LOVE IT!!! Good movie. Very entertaining, suspenseful and lot of good actors. Cute, sexy, and well-built young guys and girls, good for eye candy. Go. Watch it with a young crowd.
The synopsis as well as the movie poster on this are not for the same film that is in the trailer. This needs to be corrected. Two different movies are being rated on this review. The Eden about the soccer team who becomes stranded on an island is a great movie and very well done. Must see!
A pretty actuate portrayal of DJing and trying to survive the night club entertainment industry, with an amazing soundtrack; Daft Punk, Joey Beltram, Jay Dee and, unfortunately, a sh*t load of Deep House. I f*cking hate Deep House. I hate flutes, I hate electric pianos, I hate saxophones, I hate screeching divas and I HATE incense. "No, NO, I will not lower my voice! I don't care! Get off me! I hate it! Say 'Larry Levan' one more time, I dare you!"
Eden is a messy, sprawling and defiantly flawed musical masterpiece, befit with an unconventionally free flowing structure and often jarring time jumps, between which the characters hilariously seem not to age. Flawed and ambitious is better than bland, however. This is a witty, utterly engaging and simply marvellous ode to an era of music which doubles up as a loose tale of sticking to your passions, even when the society around you has advanced. Whilst an undeniably lengthy movie, Eden is a pleasure to watch and also to listen to; even when it drags, just closing your eyes and absorbing the aural pleasure of its relentless parade of music is enough to satisfy. (This movie also automatically scores 5 stars for starring Greta Gerwig)
