AHHHHHH HOW DID SHE GET PREGNANT HOW LIKE HOW PLEASE EXPLAIN TO ME IN DETAIL

There is a weird vibe through the movie: at the beginning is quite awkward, and with the passing of the time is getting more consolidated. The narrative is thin, but at the end of it I was quite happy with this strange tale.

This is honestly my favorite movie. I understand it's not for everyone but I can't get enough of it.

This film was just wrong on so many levels. First of all, the family portrayed as Mormon was nothing of the sort because most Mormon's are just like you and me. They just don't smoke, drink, or swear, but they do live just like most people. They don't talk, act, or dress or live like the family in the movie. And as far as the brother just leaving as he did, rarely happens. There is a clear lack of research that went into writing the film. And as far as the story is concerned, very cliche and uninteresting. I kept fast forwarding just to see how silly the conclusion was going to be. I wasn't disappointed. Don't bother .

Electrick Children is a very special gem of independent cinema. It is a true tale of finding one's self in a sea of obstacles, and unshared beliefs. As off-the-wall as the story may be, it is still relatable on a very ethereally human level. Breathtaking cinematography, expertly written, beautiful performances, and subtle yet massive amounts of symbolism. The film truly is a trance-like dream.

When I read the premise of Electrick Children, I had to look at it again to make sure I wasn't reading it right, which I did read it right and find it surprising that it's not a comedy film, but a drama movie. So when I watch it with some mixed feelings at first, Electrick Children is better than I expected that is great for the first time film from director/writer Rebecca Thomas. The acting is really great, especially Julia Garner who gives a memorable performance. The soundtrack is really good, which one of the songs sounded similar to the trailer for the remake of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo which also sound strangely fitting to this film. The characters are entertaining to watch, and swing a Mormon's daughter go to a place that she finds unfamiliar is really interesting, something that I've never seen before, and I was curious to see were she was going to next. There are some funny moments, and the film is interesting with some good twists. Electrick Children is a really great film that I'm sure that it's going to have a cult following in the future.

The only reason that I watched "Electrick Children" is because it expires from Netflix in two days, but I wish that I had invested my time in something more worthwhile. While the synopsis sounded interesting, the film was the opposite. It was bland, boring, and the only way for the writers to connect the dots of this disjointed plot was through farfetched coincidences. It all just seemed far too convenient. Then again, what do you expect from a film that focuses around extremist fundamental Mormons whose daughter seemingly becomes pregnant through an immaculate conception which sends her on a journey to Las Vegas where she randomly stumbles upon her illegitimate father. Spoiler: You never even find out how she got pregnant. What a waste of time. They even tease you like they aren't going to reveal, then they are, and then they don't. It's almost as if they accidentally deleted every other page of the script and the result is a half of a story. In the end, the only thing that this film manages to do is paint Christians as members of a frightening cult and makes you suffer through awkwardly-written dialogue in the process. The acting certainly doesn't help the poor script or the characters that we don't care about. I don't know what "Electrick Children" was aiming to be (or what the critics saw in it), but it is simply an all-around bad movie.

A captivating storyline and fascinating characters makes it nearly impossible to look away from the screen. For a first time writer/director, Rebecca Thomas has crafted to a remarkably original film with very little to pick on. Loved it!

Love it when certain things are left untold. That's exactly what happens in this movie. Keeps you engaged despite the slow pace.

I thought it was one of the strangest movies I'd ever watched, and explaining it to my friends proved to be extremely difficult. I loved it. Julia Garner's acting was superb.

One of the best films of 2012.

Non-judgemental of many concepts we find hard to accept or understand. This is like the story of Mary and Joseph except get rid of Joseph and most of that biblical stuff and replace is with Rachel (Julia Garner) and her 'immaculate conception'. Everything that happens to Rachel is played on her curiosity, it's refreshing to see that noone really goes gung-ho crazy about her situation outside of her mormon community. There's a quiet coolness about it all. Rory Culkin's choices playing Clyde, the guy she meets, also add to the coolness.

this is one of the best movies I have ever seen. we are freaking out. if you are even sort of a person who is good you will like it. if you are more than sort of a good person you will freak the fuck out. that is all.

This was kind of a weird story, but a decent watch. I really like the Culkin boys, so I thought Rory was great in this. I'm not sure of the rewatch value, but once is not time wasted.

Electrick Children feels like one giant missed opportunity. Along with a series of misfires and general blunders in the script, the film feels like it could have been so much more but fell well short of its potential. Just the simple synopsis on Netflix was enough to make me give it a shot and, while I don't feel like I wasted an hour and a half of my life by any means, it could have been so much better. The fish-out-of-water story of a devout Mormon trying to find her child's father after she believes she was impregnated by a song on a cassette tape is original and set up for a unique adventure but ultimately bumbled through a script that didn't know what it wanted to be. I honestly can't put my finger on if it's the script or the performances, but I felt almost nothing for the characters in the film or really invested in their respective stories. Nothing seemed to be set up or paid off correctly and it made the entire movie feel extremely flat and left me wanting more resolutions. I'm all for subversion and twisting a story or even leaving things open ended, but when every minor twist or set up was met with such flat outcomes I could not help but just feel numb to the whole thing. I was constantly waiting for the plot lines to turn into their more interesting outcomes but it never happened. That boring thing you thought was going to happen always happened. A lot of lazy writing also plagued the script with way too many "for convenience" moments leading to key character developements. A lot of the time characters just happened to be in the right places at the right times. While the film lacked any kind of style in the majority of its visuals and writing, it definitely made up for it with sound design. Aside from the obvious soundtrack having a big impact on the movie, little sound details helped pick up some of the slack for other lacking aspects. Being broad here to avoid spoilers, but I liked how it one part of the movie especially when she's leaving a doorway the sound crescendoes as the noise in her life builds then when she exits the building it all goes away and she's at peace. It's details like that that kept this movie from being a total flop in my eyes. I also really appreciated how subdued the "antagonists" were. The main character's father was essentially a cult leader and, while you still were given that sense of dread and fear that she certainly has, they didn't need to show him being overly violent or yelling and screaming to get the point across. Despite all she went through, the main character never really seemed to grow or change. Maybe on the most superficial level of things she was forced to see and learn, but that's about it. I don't know, this is a weird movie for me to judge. Definitely didn't hate it, and even enjoyed myself at times, but it was far from great and I don't know that I'd recommend it unless you want a film with some great sound design and little else.

Strange, fanciful, yet engaging and well performed, Electrick Children is a unique movie, and an uncommon directorial debut for Rebecca Thomas. The story centers on Rachel, a 15 year old girl from a fundamentalist Mormon family in Utah who, after listening to a forbidden cassette tape with rock music, becomes inexplicably pregnant. Thinking it is the result of immaculate conception, Rachel endeavors on a quest to find the musician behind the music, befriending an odd cast of characters on her way. The premise almost makes the film sound like a comedy. It's not. I went in suspecting a strong condescension toward religion coming, and yet-- the film largely resists that temptation. In fact, it starts quite strong, giving us interesting characters, a believable world (to start), and a set up that offers a lot of intrigue. Through the film, we keep waiting for the actual source of the conception to be revealed, yet the film takes its protagonist's view very seriously. If you can accept that, and just go with the film, what follows is a journey of discovery, and something quite unique. The most impressive part of the film for me was Julia Garner's role as Rachel, an imaginative, wide-eyed young girl, who's not afraid to challenge her boundaries. Her interactions with the surrounding cast was well done, and her journey, however fanciful, felt genuine. Towards the end, however, the more whimsical elements did seem to get away from Electrick Children, resulting in a bit of an uneven tone. Still, the direction delivered an engaging narrative and a world with surrealist overtones, but real drama. 3.5/5 Stars

I always thought that directors would run out of ideas for movies. This film told me otherwise. It's strange yet beautiful and well put together.
