Elvis Reviews
I’m not a big fan of Baz Luhrmann nor of non-linear storytelling, but the movie works because of Austin Butler’s amazing performance. He’s so good that it’s hard not to think you’re watching the real Elvis. And when the real Elvis appears at the end he looks wrong. Not sure about Tom Hank’s’ turn as the colonel, but the real one was far nastier. And the music! And the cars! A special mention to the actor playing Little Richard, you nailed it.
I didn't buy the Elvis actor. After that, it was all over
A beautiful movie that intensely brings to life Elvis' rise in the world of music, through the eyes of his manager Colonel Tom Parker. This is perhaps the weak point, from a narrative perspective... Elvis' true personality as a man and artist has not been explored in depth for me, precisely because of the cumbersome presence of the manager who is the narrator of the story. Perhaps in some points it seemed a little too frenetic, in full Luhrmann style, but aesthetically splendid. Excellent performances, especially that of Austin Butler. Is it the definitive film I would like to see about Elvis? Certainly not... but it is worth watching.
Emotional, captivating, and full of soul. Just a wonderful and heartfelt portrayal of Elvis.
The movie felt fake. Do you want us seriusly to believe that girls were literally passing out because they hear a random guy play some music?
It’s a real skill to make a story this interesting so boring
Elvis is electrifying, enthusiastic, and well-paced for a nearly 3-hour film. An all honesty was a fun biopic in my opinion. Austin Butler delivers a thunderous performance as Elvis. While I agree that Tom Hank’s portrayal felt somewhat awkward at times, Elvis’ storytelling, the musical notes, and the energy of the film had me completely captivated and joyful. Grading: A
An adrenaline-pumping rollercoaster of a musical biopic about Elvis Presley. Sometimes this insane breakneck direction can rush the pacing to a detriment and give weird vibes, but other times it dazzles with energy. Eventually, the movie slows down and really lets the emotional drama of the characters settle in while Tom Hanks and Austin Butler pour their hearts out into their performances. It’s one crazy movie that’ll definitely give you narrative whiplash, but the ride was worth it nonetheless.
Outstanding biopic that evokes real emotion and damns many of the charlatans and hangers on of the time
Austin Butler did a really good job.
Loved it! great music, really well directed and edited. Great acting, all the moves of Elvis were her. You don't need to be an Elvis fan to enjoy this (I'm not), but I can appreciate his music and what he achieved. A must watch.
This movie is a Wikipedia page of Elvis’s life that tells you all the details about the career but fails to make you care about the human underneath the career markers. Had I not been a fan of Elvis before this movie, I would definitely not understand what is so impressive about him. Austin Butler is amazing, an incredible actor, but you feel like he is really let down by the director/script. Trying to span his whole life is a mistake - he had so many interesting things happen, that if you took just one of those moments and fleshed out a whole movie to really delve into Elvis’s psyche and emotions and talent and troubles, we would’ve cared so much more about him as a person.
Elvis' story from an interesting point of view. Poignant. Authentic. Sad.
The film does give you a different perspective of Elvis life but the actual film is badly presented as its made to be too new. The characters are unbelievable and the pop up graphics aren't needed.
Excellent movie. His life & his story how he became Elvis was very moving. Well done.
Overproduced and messy. Main characters unconvincing. Settings were good but an overall disappointment.
At many points in the movie you feel like you're witnessing and observing Elvis himself! A A little obnoxious at times with a super fast paced, and the sub plotted Beale Street images however, a good framework in place for the movie, Austin Butler is very charming. A little less, Tom Parker, and a little more Elvis backstory would've been nice however, again to me beautiful film work.
Austin Butler should’ve been nominated for an Oscar
Absolutely great. Some flaws, but overall one of the best film ever watched
