Enola Holmes Reviews
Movie that understands direction of play perfectly. If you're interested in younger sister of sherlock holmes solving crimes, I bet you'd love to see her eccentric mother helping her pursuit her passions as a kid, no metter how unwomenly they are in eyes of socaity, and you'd prabobly hate her brother, mincroft, who's trying to send her to bording school and merry her off against her wil, and you'll love her running off from all this to find her mother, and in doing some helping women gain right to vote (wich mincroft was against, and sherlock did not care for) It has fun moments, and you won't even notice when 2 hours past. My only complain is romance on top of that. I'd cut it. Fortunetly, with how little scenes they got, I think writters didn't want it there either. 8.5/10
So overrated and boring. I watched it with great difficulty.
The ubiquitous Millie Bobby Brown routinely breaks the 4th wall as Sherlock Holmes kid sister, whom it turns out is no slouch as a sleuth herself. Henry Cavill (Man of Steel, Man from UNCLE) plays Sherlock in a supporting role, and women's suffrage in England is the backdrop here (circa 1895). The film was heartfelt and delightful, and I fully expect a sequel.
I can say that it's a very good movie! Let's say that the movie has some holes, but I think it's great. Enola is a girl, who from a very young age was taught by her mother, a very peculiar chores for a modest and respectable girl of the nineteenth century. In a way Enola Holmes learned activities, judged by masculine society, rather than more feminine activities. In the XIX century, women were mostly important for household chores, being submissive to their husbands, and how to have children, clean, iron, tidy up and others. But the film brings a very different perspective than usual, of a woman who wanted to change the world for her daughter, Enola Holmes, she raised her to be strong, and fearless. Enola goes through many adventures in search of finding her mother. The movie is of great quality, because the script is very good, the setting perfect, the costumes, the effects, the soundtracks, and the plot.
Overall a good movie and I really enjoyed the plot, however, it kind of annoyed me on how much she broke the fourth wall, it makes it seem… I don’t know, almost cringey? Not hating, just a little odd to me. But definitely worth a watch! I’m currently rewatching it as I type this!
This is one of the worst films I gave ever seen. Unbelievably patronising to women, working class people, non white people, it is a farrago of abysmal story telling and right-on tropes. Avoid at all costs, If you have a brain.
Enola Holmes is an entertaining, fast-paced adventure that offers a fresh take on the Sherlock Holmes universe. Millie Bobby Brown shines in the title role, bringing energy and charm as the clever, independent younger sister of the famous detective. The film blends humor, action, and a mystery that’s both engaging and thought-provoking, with standout performances from Henry Cavill and Helena Bonham Carter. Though it occasionally feels predictable, its empowering themes and Brown’s captivating performance make it a delightful watch for all ages.
As far as netflix films gp this was good enough. It had amazing set design and a brilliant score, despite a laclimg plot.
Its an absolute banger love it all and the characters are so good
LOVED this! Sweet, fun, intelligent, fast action. Very well done.
This was quite well executed, but they may have slightly overdone it with Millie breaking the fourth wall. And though it can be funny at most times, it is a downside of the movie. But that’s probably the only downside and I extremely highly recommend watching it especially if you’re into mysteries and action in movies.
Enola Holmes is about Sherlock Holmes' little sister, Enola Holmes. Hence the name of the movie. Enola is a clever, curious young woman who decides after the prologue of the film to run away from home to go after her missing mother, who ran away the night of her sixteenth birthday. Another reason she runs away is to avoid being sent to a finishing school for young ladies by one of her older brothers, Mycroft, who becomes her guardian after her mother disappears. Mycroft is an arrogant, haughty know-it-all who believes that Enola is too untamed to enter British society and that she needs to be better educated. Now, back to Enola for a bit. Enola knows she also has to cover her tracks the best she can so she isn't caught by Sherlock, her other older brother. Sherlock is a witty, observant detective who you've probably heard of even if you haven't seen Enola Holmes. Anyway, lets move on to the train scene. When Enola is on the train to London she meets Tewkesbury, a timid but smart young upper class man who is actually a runaway himself. Initially Enola wants to leave him behind to continue her trip to London on her own, but then a man in a brown bowler hat tries to kill him so she ends up saving his life instead. To evade the man previously mentioned, Enola and Tewkesbury then make their risky escape by jumping off the train into a grassy field. After that the film basically outlines the rest of their what happens after the two of them both make it to London. Enola changes disguises once she reaches the city proper and true to her family name, ends up wrapped up in a mystery plot having to do with the attempted murder of Tewkesbury himself. She spends the rest of the film trying to figure out both who wants him dead and why. This movie is one of my favorites! I have watched it at least three times and recommended it to several other people. The characters are quite enjoyable and the sets and costumes were both amazing. If you like a good mystery movie with a touch of drama, I would definitely recommend Enola Holmes. It will not disappoint.
Breaking the forth wall was super annoying. They should've just left it at the beginning, but the whole movie? 🤦♂️ too much
Yea this movie was pretty good and a nice little edition to my collection of movies definitely give it a try
I'm Enola which stands for alone!
I like period dramas so I was looking forward to Enola Holmes. It's not particularly memorable but still an enjoyable watch and I look forward to a part III if it ever gets made.
MASTERPIECE.
HIGHLY overrated, this movie was unnecessary
Interesting and fun. Wonderful characters. Action, suspense, and intrigue.
