Eraser Reviews
Most of Eraser consists of Schwarzenegger and Williams dodging bullets and bad guys, but director Chuck Russell doesn't put much effort into the action scenes: He simply points the camera and shoots.

I think Eraser (1996), directed by Chuck Russell and co-starring James Caan and Vanessa Williams, is the first large-scale Schwarzenegger film that nobody cared about.

Tree trunk he may be, but Mr. Schwarzenegger has grown new branches with green leaves in this smart action thriller, directed with panache by Charles Russell and written crisply by Tony Puryear and Walon Green.

...delivers exactly what one might’ve anticipated (and hoped for) based on the premise.

A few of the set pieces are fussy or overly extended, but the rest is tolerable bone-crunching diversion.

I know it sounds very predictable, but it's actually better than you expect and Vanessa makes it much more tolerable.

Defying the boundaries of realism - by walking a fine line between amusing and obnoxious - always seems easy for Arnold.

Although Eraser offered the first signs that cinema audiences were no longer willing to swallow Arnie in any old action vehicle served up to them, there is still enough cheesy lowbrow moments to make this tale... deliver on the small screen.

'90s Schwarzenegger action movie is extremely violent.

The stunts, even show-stopping ones such as our man throwing himself out of a plane without a parachute and landing on a car without sustaining injury, have an air of desperation about them.

Eraser is totally meaningless summertime entertainment, but it means something, I suppose, that it has been done so well.

Welcome back, big guy.

The advanced weaponry and nifty scopes notwithstanding, most of the gunplay is pretty standard-issue, with most of the victims being anonymous targets present just to be picked off.

Big-budget action filmmaking at its dullest.

As entertaining and solid as its leading man.

It's the sort of plot you've seen so many times before that you forget exactly where you've seen it before, though you know it probably worked better then.

It's a movie constructed around three or four self-consciously 'cool' episodes, and passably entertaining as such, but there's also an awful lot of uncool contrivance, coincidence and contempt for the audience.
