Escape From Pretoria Reviews
Well shot but should of just called the movie “The Lock smith” seemed to be mainly about key cutting then anything else , not worth the high reviews wouldn’t waste your time
Radcliffe was ok to pull in the punters, a star for him..but seriously? - why not use genuine SA actors for the rest?! The accents were appalling, completely off-putting and grating. This is a South African story voiced by foreigners, and hardly even skimming the surface of what it was all about. Ok purely as a generic prison break, but if you want to understand more of the context it’s set in, there’s got to be far more authenticity.
Acting was D class at best, did Harry Potter not have a sequal to act in? The lead actors fell horribly short, South African actors should have been used. The accents, nuances and storyline were amateur at best. The storyline could have been so much more, it barely skimmed the surface, basic opportunities lost. It was nothing less than insulting to the history of the era. The only memorable reaction was the bile in my throat. Netflix should allow South African's to tell their stories.
Left me in need of a wee lie down. Intense suspenseful edge of your seat thriller
Good acting. Interesting, but slow. Despite living through the era, I am surprised to not recall this story.
Well done, suspenseful. Shameful state of the world with apartheid.
A little slow for a prison escape movie but the last act is good.
So it seems the guards were sub- humans in a system run by non-humans. I really, really hope karma came their way and they all died of pain of death. It was a good suspenseful film.
boring and very rushed, i hate all the characters on this movie
I place this title right next to my favourite Shawshank Redemption. Radcliff and the two other escapees show so much intensity I was worried that the actors will get a heart attack. Either them or me. Photography is also top notch. The story also largely reflects what is said to have actually happened. Radcliff consulted the real life Jenkins. I was shocked to realise that Apartheid only ended in the 1990s. I originally reviewed it on IMDB (which, btw, is not my jam anymore after I realised Amazon took it over and messes around with some of the reviews) and have noticed that some critics actually give one star to this movie arguing that it misrepresents facts (as if apartheid wasn't actually so bad?). Well, why not give it a try and have your own opinion?
So underated. With its political theme, it was full of excitement.
i really love what Daniel Radcliff has been doing post-HP & this role is no exception, but like a few others have pointed out, it was kind of just "meh" overall. not because of the actors but because of the story; not a lot happens to keep your attention. watching them escape is similar to reading a newspaper article. pretty un-invigorating.
I liked this film. Although not a huge Daniel Ratcliffe fan I think he did justice to the role. The film could have dug deeper into the plot and characters but it decided to lighten things up a bit. It didn't really detract from the story. It's a good indie film that wants you to cheer for the apartheid prisoners over the smug, bullying guards. I've watched it three times and I ll probably watch it another three.
great classic prison movie. loved it!
Definitely on of the best movie that i have ever watch
Nice film. I like it.
i like watching movies. to fill my boredom. even every day there is time for it.🤩
Worth watching movie.
It's really good-looking, the rhythm is tight, it makes people nervous, and there are many camera movements that are very clever
This is a quite gripping and certainly tense crime thriller film. The fact its based on a true story appealed, as is ever the case. Daniel Radcliffe does well in showing a range of emotions undoubtedly felt by the protagonist, Tim Jenkin - anger, determination, fear. He isn't someone others may feel especially easy to feel sorry for, given what happened but even so, you may be surprised by the sheer brutality prisoners faced on a daily basis at the depicted prison. Its an interesting tale pretty well told, with some edge of your seat type moments, so yes, I'd recommend it.
