Eternal Beauty Reviews
I love Sally Hawkins. She's wonderful here, as she always is. Totally captures the fractured sense of a person whose life was permanently derailed by a monster of a mother and the trauma of some bugger jilting her. But I wonder if it wasn't the potential of having that evil bat as his mother-in-law that did it. Thewlis is great, too, as a light of hope for Hawkins' Jane. But then that's broken off as well. Billie Piper plays her right dirtbag sister. Basically, this was huge bummer. I can usually take downer subject matter just fine. But this was nothing but down but for a brieft stretch. 2.7 stars
Just absolutely brilliant drama/television/film... Looking into the life of a schitzophrenic and living in their awful and dillusional world through their eyes.... This was scary at times especially when in charge of a child in her car!!! Wonderful story and the most Superb leading lady who plays Jane... Fantastic watch and thank you to those who produce these amazing films about real life ! Just exemplary viewing
This is very much a quirky character driven drama. Sally Hawkins does well portraying a vulnerable, demure young lady. Its more sad than it is funny, so I'm surprised its categorised, in part, as a comedy - there are some light hearted moments in it I suppose but its more a depiction of a dysfunctional family at large than primarily an idyllic rom-com. I thought the cast did well and its an interesting watch. It became quite moving after about an hour, when things take a somewhat more dark turn. I think Sally's performance is reasonably memorable and I'd recommend this film to fans of hers. A key word relating to this film and the main character is fragility.
It was amazing. I just finish it. I even cried during the movie. It'll be hard to follow if you don't focus on the movie. The music fits very well with the scenes. I don't think it is that "bad".
Loved the incredible Sally Hawkins who never fails to breathe life into her characters. Her performance was what kept me watching!
2 talented actors submit into this creative mess that leads nowhere. Their performances are convencing but script and it's flow damages this movie severely.
Very nice perspective of an actual public health issue. Amazing picture and cinematographic details that makes you want to find out more about the film and director .
'Eternal Beauty' is too often a portrait of cruelty, and not enough kindness. It is, however, a showcase for the tremendous talents of Sally Hawkins. At times, I wanted to scratch my eyeballs out, but it's beautiful. For me, it just wasn't successful at managing the balance that writer and director Craig Roberts was shooting for. Final Score: 5/10
Overcompensates for lack of visionary thesis with creative meanderings and wokish self-congratulations, but pretty well meaning and executed nonetheless. An aggressively neurdivergent Amelie type-deal.
Eternal Beauty's comical depiction of a woman who suffers from a mental health condition is already walking a very fine line, which it quickly falls over onto the wrong side of and doesn't manage to save itself.
A little difficult at first, but it is well worth the time and money. The film is seen entirely through the POV of Jane (Sally Hawkins), a paranoid schizophrenic, who sees her world entirely in the present, in a sort of chaotic, non-chronological manner. Sally Hawkins so completely inhabits her character that the mood shifts and hallucinatory scenes pulled me into Jane's mind and heart so readily that I was won over. I highly recommend Eternal Beauty.
Sally Hawkins performance in this movie is by far the best I’ve seen from any actress in all of 2020 . Idk if she has award buzz around her but she certainly should 4.0. Very sweet film with great character development that had you rooting for the lead to turn her life around and find happiness . One last note to end on, screw that mother .
The movie successfully gives us an incredible look about schizophrenia and how it is misunderstood by many and the stigma around it, it made me understand the character, beautifully portrayed by the sublime Sally Hawkins who never fails to amaze with her acting methods. It's a great mix altogether and never goes for the cliches. It's a well done and well directed film.
Good Lord. Yes, brilliant performances all around. But the LAST thing I wanted to see right now is a painful look at Schizophrenia. There was no relief in sight for this poor girl, nor her messed-up family. It was a long meditation on internal pain. I'm sorry, I'm sure as a study of painful mental illness and family dysfunction, it was extremely well done, but as I said, Good Lord --- this was NOT the kind of film that even teaches a good lesson --- she comes to some sort of self-acceptance and dismissal of the chief phantom causing her pain (the boyfriend who jilted her at the alter) at the end, but wow, such a long and grindingly painful film. Whew.
