Every Little Thing Reviews
a must see... love and compassion...
The love, compassion, joy and connection she has with these smallest of GODS creatures transcends to the viewers hearts providing one a greater affinity and admiration for these aerial acrobats...Awesome footage and flight cinematography....I actually felt as if i was a HUMMINGBIRD....her voice is calm, soothing and adds to the serenity to the film as a whole....
While I rarely disagree drastically with the RT Tomatometer, I’m making an exception for this one. Beautiful videography, a caretaker, adorable tiny birds… who could ask for a better setup, right? Wrong. No narrative, no context… the protagonist is not charismatic enough to even approach being a substitute for a story. This is an incoherent set of beautiful shots of cute birds. If the filmmakers were trying to allude to something, it went way, way beyond me. This would have been an excellent short film for a school project. Just not Storytelling 101.
Every Little Thing is a 2024 documentary film about hummingbird rehabilitator Terry Masear. It was directed by Sally Aitken 🐦 It’s very good! 😀 I’d definitely recommend it 👍🏼 A beautiful, uplifting documentary about a remarkable, passionate woman and her birds… Amid the glamour of Hollywood, Los Angeles, a woman finds herself on a transformative journey as she nurtures wounded hummingbirds, unraveling a visually captivating and magical tale of love, fragility, healing, and the delicate beauty in tiny acts of greatness.
Beautiful film of love and care for small, precious creatures, with rehab and recovery of hummingbirds. Up close and tender stories of survival among California hummingbirds that have survived trauma, and the necessary love, care and treatment required in bringing them back from the brink. Recommended as inspirational and from the heart.
Adorable and emotional. Surprised me.
“Every Little Thing” LA resident Terry Masear has a very special calling: she rescues and saves injured or sick hummingbirds. As we watch her ply her very special skills and caring, we learn about the lives of these tiny, special birds, and the special lady who saves them in “Every Little Thing.” Warning: be prepared to feel elation, thrills, wonder, happiness and sadness while watching “Every Little Thing.” Director Sally Aitken brings us into the life of Terry Masear as we learn of why she is so passionate about her tiny wards. She is the survivor of abuse and loss herself and this, I think, adds to the almost infinite patience she displays. It is not just for the little birds that people, strangers, bring to her to rescue. It is everyone who crosses her path with their little birds. Mostly, though, it is the treat of watching Terry care for the diminutive hummingbirds as she nurses them back to health – not always, though, so be prepared to have your heart broken a little bit – and rehabilitates them back to the wilds of LA. Terry, in the course of this sweetly told documentary, introduces us to her wards and they have names and personalities – Jimmy (who does not like to be alone and cries), Charlie, Cactus, Sugar Baby, Mikhail and Alexi, Raisin and Larry Bird. We also meet the rescuers who bring in the damaged hummingbirds and some invest their time in Terry and her babies. One of the pleasures of watching Terry’s rehabilitation process is her infinite patience and understanding – the lady knows her stuff about these little birds – as she brings them back from injuries and harm. I found myself thoroughly absorbed as she takes her patients from rescue to rehabilitation to release in a wonderfully positive cycle of life, Aside from a couple of moments of sadness, watching “Every Little Thing” kept a smile of absolute pleasure on my face as I had the wonderful opportunity to watch these amazing little critters up close and personal, as it should be. Really good a documentary
Beautiful and gentle doco that brought me into this incredible world of hummingbirds and their rescuers. The cinematography was divine.
Maybe a really good documentary writer & producer could have made this into an interesting movie, but probably not because it's nearly impossible to take a 20 minute story and stretch it into 90 mins. It's incredibly repetitive and boring. Bird gets hurt, obsessed lady diagnoses the injury and nurses the bird back to health in nearly the exact same way, REPEAT REPEAT REPEAT for 1.5 hours. I thought it would never end.
What was the carbon foot print of producing this bizarre movie. It was like watching a david lynch version of steve martin’s LA Story. The central premise of the story is- don’t abuse children or they may end up in a movie like this. Entitlement on stairoids.
A truly beautiful, deeply moving and educational film about a gifted and compassionate rescuer and lifesaver to both hummingbirds and people. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
At our local film festival (Refocus), this film was an unexpected stand out. Perhaps the chance to see on the big screen enhanced our sense of awe viewing the close-ups of hummingbirds throughout their physical therapy/rehabilitation journeys. This film elicited wonder alongside reflections of grief, resilience, and other existential matters. My 8-year-old was skeptical but ultimately loved, continued, & continues to discuss this film. Grateful to the filmmaker & documentary subject for the chance to explore mortality while considering the unexpected possibilities of effort, dedication, and recovery which may defy expectations.
