A Fistful of Dollars Reviews
The movie is 60 years old, keep that in mind. The plot is somehow confusing. A lot of back and forth that does not always make too much sense. But se it, it is a classic, after all.
Um fantástico western. O Sergio Leone é um ótimo diretor e o filme é muito bem escrito surpreendendo o espectador em vários momentos. (avaliação: 8.5/10)
I was expecting the origination of the cliches that we think of today. I was very mistaken. This was a story that would be great today just like it was then.
This film is possible the worst thing i have ever watched.
When I started this movie and saw a stranger rolling into a town with “bad guys” in charge, I was like “I know what the whole plot of this movie is going to be” and man was I wrong. It’s wild for a super well-known movie from 1964 to be able to surprise me like this. The first thing I want to point out is the writing. This is a very well-written and grounded movie. Our hero is a flawed character and makes mistakes. Things that seem like luck or coincidence are actually planned out. And some things are left unsaid, not everything needs to get a big speech for exposition. Visually the movie looked great for it’s time. At no point did I feel like it was clearly a 60s movie, if you had told me it was made in the 80s I probably would’ve bought it. Of course, the soundtrack for the movie is also exceptional. Now, there are only a few issues I have that knock it down a star, the biggest of which is the dubbed voices. For those who don’t know, the movie was filmed in Italy and many of the actors in the movie are Italians who don’t really speak English, so much of the dialogue is dubbed over. Sometimes this isn’t too noticable, but other times it can be distractingly-noticable. Another smaller issue is the editing for some scenes. There are a handful of scenes that were noticeably too long, to the point that I would find myself thinking “Okay, I get it, can we wrap that up?” But again, these are relatively minor complaints. I really enjoyed this movie and I think it’s well-deserving of all its praise.
Although slightly corny due to the age of the film and especially the look of the fake blood, I found this movie really entertaining. I especially enjoyed the plot due to Clint Eastwood’s character’s schemes throughout the movie that pinned the Baxters and Rojos against eachother and kinda stirred up the dynamic in the town. Overall I thought it was an interesting and fun watch despite the fact I’m not a big western person.
It was a pretty good movie. Most of the voice acting could have been better. I really liked the way camera angles and close-ups were used. The repetitive music was a nice touch. The prop design and sets were very well made. The story was decent. I haven’t watched many old movies but I would say that this movie was good for its time. Overall it was good, but wasn’t my favorite.
The movie is really chaotic but really fun to watch a bit slow but has a good plot to it, I like how they went with it really classic but creating the mid-west scene and lost ion by creating the whole town, clothing, using actual horse for the situation of the time and all. Overall, great movie!
At first I didn’t really understood what was happening but i figured it out like half in the movie. What i really like about the movie was when the guy got captured and he escaped and there was a tracking shot where we can see how he threw fire when the guys found out that he escaped and they were inside looking for him. I also like the sound effects when the guy walked away at the end.
This movie was placed during the 60s so the film making was a more older film with a more modern style of the Mexican and American country. It’s intense and has a good story, although the only critique I have was in the beginning of the movie the concept wasn’t clear.
For a movie from the 1960’s it definitely holds its own. The gunfights were enjoyable and sort of amusing. I also enjoyed the music and sound effects they used throughout the movie. The camerawork was impressive and defiantly told a story. Some stuff was bad and just dissapointing: Some of the voices and acting, terrible fake bloody and one too many close ups. But overall it was very good for a 1960’s movie and stands up well as an all time movie.
I thought for the time it was probably a great movie but I think that the non-diegetic sounds of the flute kind of distracted from the movie. I thought the ending when it becomes first person view of the enemy was good, showing the sun and light.
Amazing for its time. The goofy voiceover and large amounts of closeups make for a really old-school feel. I also enjoyed the intrigue of the main character not having a name, or a backstory.
Absolute cinema. Amazing for its time with the different angles and effects, some of the effects were a little too fake such as the blood and the voiceover of the little boy. I really enjoyed the music in the back as it helped affect the audiences emotions.
I enjoyed the violence of the movie at some parts. Part of the reason I enjoyed these scenes were due to the specific sound effects used, such as the flute and whip combo, and the gun sounds. Overall, I enjoyed the movie but thought there was really nothing standing out until the middle to end.
The plot was super easy to follow and I enjoyed the action throughout the movie. Clint Eastwood was a great protagonist and really embodied the vigilante-ish hero character. The close up shots help build suspense throughout the film, and the soundtrack (while repetitive) was extremely catchy and memorable. Awesome movie and a great introduction to “spaghetti westerns”
Some shots of this movie were nice but can get confusing trying to understand the scale of the place due to those shorts, plot was pretty mediocre kinda made me sleepy and the sound effects were just honestly unbearable for me. Love the color grading though.
I think overall the movie was good. I think at times it was a little slow but for the 1960s I think it was a good action film with good sound effects and action filled ending.
I enjoyed it, I’m not into western films but it definitely wasn’t bad for its time. I wouldn’t recommend it to a friend but it was outside of something I would usually watch and surprisingly okay.
It was a good movie. I thought it was advanced for its time and was good quality. Also I thought the plot was good and it was interesting.
