Forbidden Planet Reviews

Apr 22, 2025

This movie is a classic si-fi for the ages. The special effects are surprisingly good even when compared with current state-of-the-art capabilities. The "monsters from the Id" theme that runs through the storyline creates a solid esoteric vibe that keeps the movie tight and focused and, most of all, coherent.

The special effects are fantastic for the 1950s. You can clearly see how this movie directly influenced all of science fiction that came after. It was kinda slow though, and the acting not very good. It really deserves a modern remake to fix some outdated stuff.

Quite impressive for it's era.

Probably the ultimate retro sci-fi movie. Very ahead of it's time, with effects and visuals that aged like wine, great characters, and a fast-paced yet meaningful story that manages to derive enough from it's source material for it to be original.

I grew up in the disco, 80s era of entertainment - with only a handful of stations on the 온라인카지노추천 to watch - and no DVR - no VCR till the mid 80s- obviously when this came on I couldn't take my eyes off the screen -yes I had a crush on her - lol- landmark sci-fi of its day!

One of two films from the 50's along with "The Day the Earth Stood Still" that legitimized science fiction, with the lovely Anne Francis spicing things up considerably. This was recurring Saturday afternoon Creature Feature fare for years back in the 60's, but it stands head and shoulders above the others.

This movie gets better every time you watch it.

All Time Classic. This is what Star Trek the Motion Picture was clearly trying to go for but just completely botched. (To defenders of it, this is Exhibit A for how you do a "Pure" Sci-Fi Story) Any fan of Sci-Fi will see bits and pieces of major influence taken from this. The blasters and Leia Hologram from Star Wars, The literal inspiration of the Star Trek 온라인카지노추천 show, Imagery of Blade Runner, Solaris, and even ones like iRobot (maybe not the highest quality one) and Interstellar. It's all done in a 50's Golden Era style and it's masterfully done. This is a slow burn the entire way that relies on a mixture of atmosphere, complex ideas, and visuals rather than action, laughs, and realism. It can feel a bit dry at times but stay with it. Eventually it's ideas build to some really creative stuff so just stay with it and be patient. Walter Pidgeon was amazing in this and did a great job making the boring science expose actually interesting consistently. It's weird to say but the acting is a bit wooden and dry but it just works extremely well over time as you warm up to it because of the ideas this builds really weigh. I don't really know how else to describe it. The characters all unique takes on The Tempest play of old and one of the most unique if not the most unique modern twist I've ever seen. (This is how you take old ideas and repackage them Hollywood. You used to know this before franchsies and Shared Universes made you lazy) It's visual effects for the time of course are amazing and still hold really well and are very clean. Some of the stuff honestly I don't know how they did and it looks amazing especially the lasers and the Eid monster. The sound is super haunting and one of the most unique soundtracks to a film I've ever heard. Super haunting and atmospheric stuff. Everyone should give this a try once.

A real science fiction treasure, especially for being produced in the 1950's. Way ahead of it's time on multiple fronts.

A marvel of its time. Hugely influential. Still holds up for those interested in sci-fi cinema history. The acting is better than expected and the love interest between actors Leslie Nielsen and Anne Francis stimulates.

As I try and watch many of the older classics these days, this movie was interesting but it is just so weird and does not stand the test of time like many other classics do. I did try and watch by relating to 1956 and that did not help much. I have seen many good classics, many of which were even older than 1956, and this one is a one and done deal. 2.5 of 5 stars at best is all I can give Forbidden Planet realistically. Was also interesting to see Leslie Nielson as a 30 yr old in a film. I thought of his other silly movies at times while watching, like Naked Gun.

A psychological sci-fi drama, this movie far exceeded my personal expectations and was definitely ahead of its time. It's aided by a solid cast, but the unique circumstances set it apart from other sci-fi films of its era. This visionary story is one I would like to watch again.

One film that never gets old. I have watched it many times and still enjoy it. It is even better on my big screen tv. Love it 🥰

Forbidden planet is a true classic Sci-Fi and if you have the time well worth a look. The efforts are dated but I feel they do still stand up today. They must have been amazing back in 1956.

An amalgamation of all the best things about mid 20th century Science Fiction. Pulpy characters, outlandish designs, and high concept commentary on civilization. No wonder everyone spent the next 10 years or so borrowing from it.

A great and classic sci-fi movie. I primarily watched it because of how influential I am told it is, and it did not disappoint. The character of Mobius was particularly interesting, and the special effects were beautiful, and at times even believable. The only issue I had was that the character of John Adams comes off as a dullard, and the least interesting part of the film. But that is my only issue with the film, and it is small potatoes in the grand scheme of things.

Forbidden Planet is truely one of the BEST 1950's SCI FI films and even today in 2023 it still holds up! A great cast with Leslie Nielsen, Walter Pigeon, and the beautiful Anne Francis and last but definetely not least, ROBBY THE ROBOT!! Alot of Star Trek I believe came from this movie and the Special effects are pretty darn good for 1956! I love the Krell the once inhabitants of ALTAIR IV their advanced civilization was a million years ahead of Earth's! This is a great film 🎥 enjoy it for when it was made DO NOT try to compare it with all that CGI Hooey of today!! For me it's an A+ and ROBBY THE ROBOT, well he's an A++!!

I can only imagine myself as a teen watching this when it first came out. Wow! I would have been over the moon! Watching it now, I am amazed at how wonderful this storytelling is. Watch it and see for yourselves! Keep in mind how this scifi movie influenced so many others after it.

A classic in every way. Robbie the Robot is timeless. The SFX were amazing for 1956 and still hold up today as far as I'm concerned.

A ridiculous mess. The most believable part is the man who seems sexually attracted to the robot.
