The Fourth Kind Reviews

Mar 10, 2025

Desperate attempt to make a good movie. Making fake videos to use them in the movie and claim they are real… Makes this double fiction and just doubles the unfortunate disappointment and time wasted watching.

I stumbled on the movie while visiting a friend. I never knew its title till I looked it up recently, 15 years after I saw it. Critics who say this is not a good movie are those who are too wrapped up in pretentiously high-brow standards that they cannot simply let go and be swept away into places where movies like this one can transport its audience. Fourth Kind is an excellent movie. It doesn't just entertain you when in the theater, but the questions it raises and the dread it leaves is haunting. A mediocre movie will never, can ever, achieve that.

Dark, alien abduction movie with some menace and a strong cast. Paced nicely and well acted

How anyone can call this magnificent movie anything but ?? Mila Jovovich is extremely talented in being able to give off an overall feeling of anxiety that the film absolutely needs to get the viewers where they need to be .The sumerian aspect I think is a pretty believable touch. I do not understand how these so called movie reviewers can give this movie such a low rating ! These reviewers obviously can't escape out of their minds somewhat and just let a movie flow through.

A Chilling Take on Alien Encounters! As an astronomical autodidact, I’ve spent countless hours studying the cosmos, contemplating the vastness of the universe, and considering the statistical likelihood of extraterrestrial life. Naturally, I was drawn to The Fourth Kind, a film that delves into the terrifying possibility of alien abduction. While the movie presents itself as a mix of dramatization and “real” archival footage (a claim that has been widely debated), it succeeds in delivering an eerie and unsettling experience that lingers long after the credits roll. Milla Jovovich delivers a gripping performance as Dr. Abigail Tyler, a psychologist in Nome, Alaska, whose patients experience disturbing sleep paralysis, mysterious disappearances, and eerie recollections of something beyond human comprehension. The film taps into one of the most chilling aspects of alleged alien encounters—the idea that these beings might not just observe us from afar, but interact with us in ways that fundamentally alter our perception of reality. From an astronomical perspective, The Fourth Kind raises fascinating questions. If intelligent extraterrestrials have indeed reached Earth, would they follow a pattern of gradual contact, much like the “Close Encounter” classifications suggested by J. Allen Hynek? Or would they operate beyond our understanding of physics, time, and consciousness? The film suggests the latter, portraying these beings as terrifyingly advanced—possibly even beyond our traditional notions of biological life. While the "real footage" angle is a clear storytelling device rather than genuine documentation, the psychological horror of the film is undeniably effective. It plays on the universal fear of the unknown and the possibility that humanity is not in control of its own fate. Though the film leans more into horror than hard science, it still resonates with those of us who ponder the implications of extraterrestrial intelligence and its potential impact on humanity. If you're fascinated by the mysteries of the universe and enjoy films that blend sci-fi with psychological terror, The Fourth Kind is worth watching. Just be prepared for a lingering sense of unease—you may never look at the night sky the same way again! Vincent Kleijn

So yes, some of the “real footage” doesn’t always work, and perhaps it would have been better without it, but this movie hits so many great notes and really scares me as a teen. Love rewatching it!

In trying to be different, this film ends up pedestrian. Just when one thinks that the scare level is going to rise, the film fails to deliver. The archival footage does not help and what one is left with is a lack of thrill and belief.

The filmmaking falls short in a couple of ways, but the content itself -- including actual footage regarding the issue at hand -- is more important.

I found the way that they used documentary film footage mixed in with the dramatic movie to be very jarring at first. It was definitely a really creepy topic, and there really isn't enough alien abduction fiction out there. Its one of my favorite horror/thriller topics. I found myself mostly just really wanting to watch a documentary about this. The times they played clips that were straight up from the actual footage or recordings were incredibly creepy and I sort of thought that outside of Milla, the other actors weren't as good as the real people. Overall, I'm glad I watched it and I have been googling things since because I want to learn more about it. I get this weird feeling that I did watch it at some point, but had forgotten most of it.

I am a 34 year old professional woman living in NYC and I fell for it in 2024

I can see what they were going for... but it didn't work ultimately.

It had potential but parts were pretty dumb and melodramatic. Trying to seem real was a mistake imo, but I guess it's creative.

The 4th Kind had the potential to be decent. But thanks to it's bad writing and clunky diolague it's a disaster!

This movie would be a hundred times scarier if they didn't remind me every 5 minutes iT's bAsEd in ReAl EvEnTs!!! 😱‼ SPOILER: i felt sorry for the protagonist, when i finished the movie i got the impression that they used this poor crazy woman's story to make this film, woman who lost her husband and daughter tragically and then she made up an alien story to help her cope. Now i think the woman never existed to begin with.

The fourth kind to me was a really good movie I liked how they implemented like a documentary and movie combined showing

The movie is an odd twist on alien abduction theory but well done overall. Trippy at times and if there is actually a missing girl out there, very sad.

Rating: 5/10. 59/100

The movie is such a waste of resources and talent, the story telling unveils the events in a unique way where you see history repeating itself in a split screen, other than that, the movie director and scene writer failed to keep the creativity, the movies forces you to look away from the screen because it lacks continuous events and it turns into a horrible basic low budget scene where you would keep looking at your fingernails or count your arm hairs because they seem more interesting than what's happening in the movie. Love you Milla <3
