Freddy vs. Jason Reviews

It is a shame to see so much CGI in 2 franchises known for their practical effects work, but once the script emerges from its introductory exposition phase, the film becomes clever enough to lift these flailing franchises back up from the depths of Hell.

| Original Score: 3/5 | Dec 18, 2024

It manages to combine two durable franchises in a manner that doubtless made mutual devotees of the Police Academy and Rambo series green with envy.

| Original Score: 2/4 | Oct 20, 2024

Freddy vs. Jason is an early-aughts slasher with laughable dialogue, creative kills, and tons of blood dripping, spraying, and gushing everywhere. It’s the gory good time that fans wanted and remains an entertaining end to two long-running franchises.

| Original Score: 3/5 | Oct 13, 2023

It leans too heavily on the worst elements of 80s slashers. But it’ll be filling enough for those it’s catering to.

| Original Score: 2/5 | Aug 11, 2023

We're not supposed to tell you who the ultimate winner is in the battle between "Freddy vs. Jason." Suffice it to say that you don't have to be clairvoyant to know this franchise isn't going to die, even if one of the characters supposedly does.

| Original Score: 1.5/4 | Jul 26, 2023

Freddy vs Jason was a solid entry in the Friday series, but a disappointing dive for the Nightmare franchise.

| Original Score: 2.5/5 | Jun 21, 2023

For a movie designed to be a silly and over-the-top celebration of two iconic franchises, FvJ hits more marks than it misses. Englund delivers his best Freddy since 87' and the cast of victims are fun albeit goofy bunch. Come for the carnage, not logic.

| Original Score: 4/5 | Aug 20, 2022

Sure it doesn't have the best acting, narrative, or even the best effects, but it offers audiences a return to slashers of old - and well, a damn good time.

| Mar 13, 2021

It's been quite some time for either of these franchises, but this chaotic mashup has once again figured out an entertaining balance between violence and humor.

| Original Score: 6/10 | Sep 29, 2020

An otherwise inoffensive, pretty mess of a film that doesn't diminish either the Friday the 13th or Nightmare on Elm Street franchises.

| Original Score: 2.3/5 | Jan 3, 2020

[W]hile not a film masterpiece by any means, Jason vs. Freddy is destined to become a cult classic and a box office hit.

It is good that they did not commit the stupidity of lowering the gore to get a more generous age rating in the United States. [Full Review in Spanish]

Freddy vs. Jason's failure is disappointing, certainly...

| Original Score: 1.5/4 | May 5, 2015

You'll shake your head in disbelief at the nonsensical plot machinations and idiotic character motivations required to bring the two terror titans together.

| Original Score: 0/5 | Feb 9, 2014

Scary, gory, nightmare-inducing slasher.

| Original Score: 2/5 | Dec 24, 2010

Director Ronny Yu loses energy when it shifts to the dumb teen protagonists, and the script faithfully wallows in cliches so ridiculous they border on Scary Movie territory.

A fun-filled, action packed, horror spectacular...

it's safe to say the best work of these bad boys is decidedly behind them.
