Friday Reviews
Classic movie with a great story and funny jokes. Many iconic lines.
A lot can go down between Thursday and Saturday... Friday is a 1995 American buddy comedy film directed by F. Gary Gray 🎭 Can’t recommend it. Oof, this isn’t good 🙁Probably give it a miss 👎🏼 Craig and Smokey are two guys in Los Angeles hanging out on their porch on a Friday afternoon, smoking and drinking, looking for something to do.
No matter how many times I rewatch this film, it never fails to make me laugh. "Friday" undoubtedly stands as one of the greatest hood movies of all time. While it features plenty of a** whooping, it’s refreshing to see a story of life in the hood that doesn’t dwell on sadness or death.
This movie is hilarious! As far as comedies go about the hood, this one is hands down the best. Chris Tucker and Ice Cube really mix up nicely in this one.
A movie that's more cringeworthy than comedic. Ice Cube stars as Craig Jones, a recently fired slacker who spends his days hanging out with his friends in the inner city. The problem is, the movie relies too heavily on stereotypes, and the slap stick comedy comes off cheap. The characters in friday are paper-thin and lack any real depth or development. Craig's friend Smokey (Chris Tucker) is a annoying, high-pitched caricature, while Craig's father (John Witherspoon) is a gruff, authoritative figure with no discernible motivation. Definitely the most cringworthy character of the film. The movie's attempts at comedy fall flat, with most of the jokes relying on tired stereotypes and slapstick humor. The plot is weak and meandering, with Craig getting into various misadventures with his friends. Overall, "Friday" is a disappointing and unfunny movie that relies too heavily on stereotypes and lacks any real depth or character development. Even Ice Cube's presence can't save this mess. I don't understand how it's went on to produce two sequels but they're definitely ones I won't be entertaining.
'Friday' is decently amusing viewing. The only thing I knew coming into it was the leads and their much used 'damn'; always fun to seeing memes in their original form, I was waiting for it to show up. Ice Cube and Chris Tucker are a well chosen pairing here. The rest of the cast are noteworthy, a fair number of known faces. Nia Long, Regina King and Bernie Mac being the biggest that I recognised, John Witherspoon and Faizon Love are in there too. The plot could've done with a few more layers of interest, though the end is good.
Ice Cube and Chris Tucker shine, Chris Tucker steals the show in this first installment. Story is solid, it really captures the feel of South Central in the 90's and tells a funny but suspenseful tale. F Gary Gray does a great job with the direction, Tiny Zeus Lister as Debo is a great & classic film antagonist.
Like I said in my review of barbershop just big cube where ARE THE OTHER FUNNY WIGGAS I mean I’m trying to give it a chance but darn where are the laughs sighing off really pissed off and bored - Big super Mario
A very funny stoner comedy that takes advantage of its limited setting/budget and thin plot with its very memorable dialogue thanks to the infectious chemistry and improv skills from Chris Tucker and Ice Cube and the countless hilarious side characters.
A hood comedy that is uniquely funny and surprisingly emotional.
Beautiful classic.....!!!!!
It's both plotless and somewhat predictable. You won't learn anything worthwhile about life necessarily from this movie, but as a slice of life about life in certain areas of town you might not get to frequent, it's okay. At least its watchable--Chris Tucker is fun to watch, and Ice Cube is interesting. But the screenplay is really thin.
I'll be the first to admit that Friday was not made for me. I'm obviously not the target demographic. However, the whole time I was watching this movie, I kept wondering how anyone could possibly enjoy it. The plot is basically two guys hanging out on a porch smoking weed. That's about it. And when the humor isn't crass, it's juvenile and predictable. But don't worry if you miss a joke, because they'll repeat it about a dozen times. This is a movie about aimless characters that was made by an aimless director and writers. It was a complete waste of my time and I regret watching it. Bye, Friday!
Loving this movie....
"Daaaaaaaaaamn!!!" It's been a long time since I've seen this movie, but, this won't be a post about the movie rather, an appreciation for director F. Gary Gray. The first in his massive filmography with such classics like, Set it Off, The Negotiator, Be Cool and Straight Outta Compton, Friday isn't a movie about anything. Yet somehow it's one of the funniest, engaging and most quoted films of all time (even the recent, "Bye Felicia" came from this movie) that helped to launch the careers of so many legendary actors. Is the movie good? Short answer, yes. However, I think the legacy has far preceded the actual quality of the content.
Friday is a funny, funny movie. Ice Cube and Chris Tucker are insane in this movie. I loved this movie a lot. It's a great stoner comedy that manages to say something greater. Check it out.
