Friday the 13th, Part 2 Reviews
Friday the 13th Part 2 is a perfectly simple slasher that, thanks to Steve Miner's outstanding direction, achieves something most other entries don't: it's actually scary.
| Original Score: 4/5 | Oct 17, 2023
Easily one of (if not THE) best Friday the 13th film, Part 2 introduces iconic Final Girl Ginny, features mean kills (RIP Mark) and has one of the best chases in slasher history. Plus: those jump scares and Manfredini's go-for-broke score!
| Original Score: 4.5/5 | Oct 13, 2023
It may be tacky, cheaply made and unoriginal but the basic formula, established in the first film by Sean Cunningham, is fool- proof.

Basically a lazy retread of the first film.

Violence, gore, sex, drinking/drugs in slasher sequel.

One monster's company, II's a crowd.

Gory with a hint of humour, this pretty much does what it says on the tin.
| Original Score: 2/5 | Mar 11, 2019
The plot is an excuse for joining together horrors, all of the sado-masochist kind, and the acting is rudimentary at best. It probably will make a fortune.

Director Steve Miner and writer Ron Kurz introduce more potential victims than they have time or invention to knock off.

There are no real surprises, just plenty of methodical murders, with graphic impaling being the favourite.
| Original Score: 2/5 | Feb 9, 2019
It still is a sad commentary that so much creative energy should have gone into such a sordid, kinky and ultimately demoralizing look at such bizarre facets of human nature both on the screen and in the audience.

Somehow, this one's even worse than the first.

Yes, it's a cheesy slasher film, but you know that going in, and this is a well-done example of the genre.

...ultimately right in line with its passable yet far-from-memorable predecessor.

Basically only for completists looking to see Jason take center stage for the first time. [Blu-ray]

The new camp counselors are interchangeable with the old ones. Different faces, same basic people.
| Original Score: 3/10 | Jun 12, 2009
Producer-director Steve Miner doesn't move in and out of scenes with the flair of original producer-director Sean Cunningham nor is he able to create the same nauseatingly realistic murder situations.

Not as good as the original, but still pretty fun, it serves up more of the same and continued to be fresh enough before its many other sequels got too silly.
| Original Score: 3/5 | Mar 5, 2009
Perhaps the least interesting of all the Friday the 13th films, since it tries to be a "sequel" to the first film, referencing themes and storylines.

cannot be defended intellectually, yet, the film's very simplicity and directness gives it a kind of folkloric power, albeit power that works only if you give yourself over to it
