Fun and Fancy Free Reviews
It’s fairly entertaining, but kind of boring overall. The Bongo story was decent, but brought down by the weirdass “Sing it with a Slap” musical number (aka easily the worst Disney song I can think of). The opening sequence with Jiminy Cricket is decent, even if one of the newspaper lines he tries to brush off unintentionally foreshadows climate change. The Mickey & the Beanstalk storyline was cute with special shoutout to newcomer Willie the Giant, but gets undermined by this creepyass “birthday party” of a little girl who’s only invitees are a grown man and his two ventriloquist puppets. Overall, it’s a mixed bag of a movie and easily one of the lowest members of the Disney Animated Canon totem pole.
The first of these “package” films. It has uneven segments and some classic nightmare fuel
More memorable than other collections of shorts, there were some stand-out moments. Unfortunately, the live-action scenes were just too creepy.
Good old school Disney movie antology. Rare chance to see Mickey, Donald and Goofy all together!
Although, still a roughly made film within this era of Disney animation, it's still better than it's predecessors, The Three Cabellors and Saludos Amigos. it puts the three famous Disney characters to more use, I prefer the use of Live action and it fits within the movie. 5.5/10
This movie is just weird. Two animated stories: Bongo and Mickey and the Beanstalk, are stitched together through live action segments that feature ventriloquist Edgar Bergen and Charlie McCarthy. Mr. Bergen's form of comedy does not age well and the live action segments feel more awkward than entertaining. The animated shorts are well done and are entertaining, though the Mickey short is the best of the two. This is also the last time Walt Disney was the voice of Mickey Mouse. You can really hear how his smoking affected his voice if you listen to Mickey from earlier shorts and Mickey from this movie. Worth a watch if you're curious.
Ok, let me get this straight. You try to get a bear's attention by slapping it in the face? I don't get it. But nonetheless, FUN AND FANCY FREE does have really good music, and it's really nice to see Mickey, Donald, and Goofy together in one story.
It's like a lot of people say. Mickey and the beanstalk is fantastic while Bongo is just OK. And Bongo has a bit of a laid back tone that you could say is intentional but it kinda makes it a tad bit boring. But i still think this is a good wartime era movie from Disney.
My all-time favorite "classic Disney" era film. Wonderful music, timeless animation, great characters and some great humor. How it isn't higher in rating I'll never know.
The ventriloquist made this worth watching.

Yeah, this is without a doubt the worse package film Disney has ever made by a pretty wide margin. One, if you thought the "plot" was weak in the last few movies, this one makes them look like they have the complexity of a Christopher Nolan film. This movie just plays the shorts, they don't even try to tie them, and for me, that is major laziness on Disney's part. The other films at least I can argue have some sort of tie in that technically makes them "movies". Both "Saludos Amigos" and "The Three Caballeros" have South America tying them together, and "Make Mine Music" has the music that was popular at the time. What does "Fun and Fancy Free" have? NOTHING. Another thing is the live action portions of this movie. That's why "The Three Caballeros" is the best one so far, because of the blending of animation and live action. This one doesn't have that. This one just explains how these two movies are being told, doesn't that sound like fun? Also, one of the live action scenes are weird with the puppets and the little girl, I was actually a little disturbed by it. I guess the biggest thing is that these two shorts are weaker then all of the films that preceded it and all the films that came after it. Like I don't care about the bear at all, and I've seen Mickey, Donald, and Goofy in much better films, so why would I want to watch them here? Also Jiminy Cricket is here for no reason at all which is a little distracting. It disturbs me that they made another two short package movie ("The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr Toad), and it's significantly better then this in almost ever way possible. I guess the animation is still good, but the songs are forgettable. Yeah, I kinda hate this movie, so stay away from it, so you don't have to sit through the pile of crap that I did.
Bonitinho, como todo filme Disney, adorei a pequena garotinha Luana e os bonecos ventríloquos, o melhor do filme, adorável…
Getting through some of these early Walt Disney Animation Studios movies is tough. This is another package of shorter stories and they continue to be mixed bags at best. Some aspects work and others miss the mark totally.
Lots to like - Jiminy Cricket, Bongo the Bear - but nothing I really loved.
It was cool to see Mickey, Donald, Goofy, the Chipmunks, the Cricket and others all in the same movie. Other than that, the live action parts were weird and had creepy puppets.
Bad Bad Bad Movie Dont Watch I Beg You
