Go Back to China Reviews

I really don't understand what mindset the director is in to create a film that smears China, devoid of any Chinese culture. It seems like a garbage movie made solely to tarnish Chinese families and mock the father-daughter relationship.

Excellent, slice-of-life, cross-cultural film. I personally know real life people like the characters in the film, and it was refreshing to see a story that relates to my experiences and observations.

I really enjoyed this movie. It may have it's flaws, but I think it really has its heart in the right place and I appreciated the acting efforts of everyone in the film. I learned a lot by watching it and would definitely recommend it as much better than a lot of films!

Wow there was more to this movie than just the family drama itself, i am glad i got to see this movie, it was a full pack for me, so there's like a ton of lesson to be learnt here and there was a lot of inspiring traits and personally I'd recommend this movie to anyone who's having a second thought on actually seeing this movie, like i said it really literally got me there.

I watched this film with my friends in China. I lived in Shenzhen for over five years, and I would say it is not an underdeveloped place like what the movie shows. A slightly literate person would know it is one of the most bustling cities in the world. Also, a scene I saw in the movie when a woman kneeling on the ground to fasten for a man, I have never seen that happened in China before. This movie is full of stereotypes of China. Is it because the director doesn't know China that much or he just simply loves to smear China.

The Americans always find the ugliest face to play a Chinese.

I'm tired of telling about the racism and prejudice from this movie. No Shenzhen doesn't look like this (WTF is it?b) Yes you can have a authentic burger in Shenzhen No Chinese girls don't act in this way No Chinese designers can do great even without google And Yes we can use google Stop drawing in you "China is poor and outdated" fantasy.

It's hard to believe such a stereotyped film about Asia can be published in 2020 directed by an Asian director. The story is boring. Obviously, the story writer has some issues about the identity with her own race.

a perfect example of casual racism. btw, I can't believe we have such a stereotyped screenplay in the year 2020, with a pile of cliche which is highly inaccurate.

A feel good movie about an imperfect family who come together and become better because of it. I loved how each of the main characters are much more than what they first seem, and by the end, each has grown because of the relationship they have with each other in the film. At times funny, while still heartwarming, this is a must watch if you enjoy movies about family.

When I saw the trailer for this movie, I thought that this would be a predictable and easy movie to watch. Although it may be the case, the drama still captures you and you do see character growth wrapped in a good story. What I enjoyed about the movie was that it showed a Chinese-American woman going back to her homeland and kind of struggling with the language, which as someone with a similar background, is very relatable.

I absolutely loved this film! I love Anna Akana and knew immediately that she'd be stellar in this film, and I was roght! The film is so heartwarming, tugs at the heartstrings, and makes me smile all at the same time. I highly recommend this film, you won't regret it. 5/5 stars!

Overall I would give this movie a B. It's cute and has a few nice underlying messages with and nicely wrapped up ending. But it has a tendency to introduce minor characters and quickly explore their story and then never speak of them again.

Entertaining and compassionate, Go Back to China is well-acted and benefits from its brisk pace. A weak ending and some slightly disturbing subplot themes drag my rating down.

A lower budgeted Crazy Rich Asians see's a predictable plot turn out to be an enjoyable experience. There is enough emotional conflict to overlook the pedestrian plot.

My family enjoyed this film - being first generation immigrants, we could relate to the cultural differences highlighted - east/west, even mainland vs Hong Kong. Overall the story was satisfying and delivered through some fun performances.

Just watched this movie yesterday evening with my daughter. It was very heartwarming and amazing ever since the spoiled brat daughter, Anna Akana, flew back to China to work with her Dad, Richard Ng. Richard has been one of my favorite Hong Kong actors for over 30 years. I could relate to the way he disciplined Anna! I totally appreciate how he managed to communicate with her even though there was a very big cultural difference between both of them. I was laughing and sobbing on and off throughout the movie with my daughter. "Go Back To China" is one perfect entertainment during this pandemic!

After falling in love with Emily Ting's debut feature film Already Tomorrow in Hong Kong a few years ago, I was very much looking forward to seeing what she would do next. While Go Back to China continues the semi autobiographical theme, she digs deeper into her family history and specifically during a time when she moved back home to help her family's toy manufacturing business. The story is filled with culture clashes and family struggles all told with a comic touch that keeps things light hearted and fun from start to finish. Go Back to China is an important film when it comes to representation and inclusion within the Asian film community and the story covers a lot of important territory in a really fun way. Ting knows exactly how to balance relevant topics with just the right amount of humor and wraps everything up in a heartwarming package that is a real joy to watch.

Loved this movie!!! Richard Ng and Anna Akana did a super duper amazing job as the father and daughter duo. Their relationship was quite similar to the one I had with my parents (when I was young, they were extremely strict. if I didn't obey, I would be in deep trouble). Noted that I was born and raised in Hong Kong; this movie brought out all the aspects of the Cantonese/Chinese culture without exaggeration! The story line was quite interesting! I truly enjoyed what exactly happened after Richard asked Anna to fly back to China to help out his factory. I highly recommended this movie to those who would like to understand more about the Cantonese/Chinese culture. Or, if you just want to crave for a great foreign movie for entertainment, "Go Back To China" will make you laugh and cry!
