Gone in the Night Reviews
The good news is that Ryder is easily the best thing about Eli Horowitz’s debut feature, a twisty thriller that packs a lot of intelligent ideas into a puzzle structure that, somewhat counterintuitively, takes the viewer’s attention away from them.

This pseudo-genre fare can’t commit to much of anything and, as a result, becomes mostly nothing.

The premise is an overly familiar one, but one that could still work if we hadn't spent half the movie chasing red herrings that would've been a lot more interesting.

Gone in the Night is supposed to be a mystery thriller. But the only baffling mystery is how anyone involved in this tepid and messy dud of a movie thought that it was worth getting made. Winona Ryder fans, you've been warned.

The seed of a good quirky movie is here but it is never nurtured into full growth.

Even when the story doesn’t pop, Ryder is terrific.

A weird combo cougar shaming sci-fi horror spree buffet, don't ask, the film takes freaky fountain of youth generation gap cinema to the next level that seems to get lost somewhere along the way - whether as a confusion of plot points or genres.

Twists galore follow, the torque of which surprises again and again.

A solid mystery thriller with an unexpected twist of horror.

A clever mystery thriller with a strong lead and an interesting theme at its core.

Despite the star performance by Winona Ryder and an intriguing setup, Gone in the Night is destined to fade quickly from our memories.
| Original Score: 2.5/4 | Jul 20, 2022
It's clear from the start that there's more going on here than meets the eye, and filmmakers Eli Horowitz and Matthew Derby have fun dribbling out enticing clues to the audience.

Lots of cool touches. Visuals. A toying with the viewer’s sense of reality. Some strong performances especially by Tju and Teague.
| Original Score: 3/5 | Jul 20, 2022
Director Eli Horowitz’s zany, unsubtle look at generational divides, damaging selfishness, and a world of lies is intriguing, creepy, and unintentionally funny.

Gone in The Night has some great performances, particularly from Ryder, but ultimately the audience may feel cheated by the ambiguous and outlandish finale.

As it’s one of the few cinematic offerings from Ryder over the past decade, there’s more to enjoy than not in this odd venture from Horowitz, which at its core is another story about how little anyone really knows about one another.
| Original Score: 3/5 | Jul 18, 2022
Gone in the Night meshes together a wild and quite villanous premise with a person just trying to navigate the slow oncoming inevitability of aging. A tight script and solid performances, plus more than a few surprises, will keep you guessing.
| Original Score: 3/5 | Jul 18, 2022
It’s weird watching a movie in which Winona Ryder gets made fun of all the time for being an old lady.
| Jul 16, 2022
The premise is in place for a rewarding mystery and character study which makes how this movie play out even more frustrating.
